When do you place the leaf tokens on the fauna board? At the end it says they score points from leaf tokens placed there, but it doesn't say when they get put there.

Hello :) Leaf tokens are placed at the end of a turn in which the player achieves the goal on the Fauna card. If multiple players achieve the goal on the same turn tokens are placed in clockwise order, starting with the Active player (if they are one of the tied players). Once a player has placed a Leaf, it will not be removed even if they fall below the threshold for the goal. I hope this helps!

This was a nice overview of how the game flows, but there are definitely a lot of details left out. Good starting point though. I now see the description says overview but since the title was "how to play" I expected it to be more thorough.
I just want to point out that when you described ability trigger order you said "top to bottom, left to right". But that would be going down each column starting with the left one, not going through each row starting at the top one. That would be "left to right, top to bottom". The rulebook describes it as "in order, row by row, left to right, starting from the top left" which is an even better very clear way to describe it. Thanks for the well made overview.

Depends on your definition of casual, but it does have a simpler mode to help with learning it a bit.

In the general categories of light, medium, and heavy Euro games, Earth won the game of the year in the medium category. So it is a bit more involved than “typical” retail board games, but a somewhat easier transition than a “heavy”, more complex game.
