    • @PhysicsUntethered

      Hi, well this is a grey area. If the recruitment is through national written exam, then it may cause hindrance. If the selection is purely based upon your cv, and you have a phd and post doc in Physics then there shouldn't be any issue. There are many Physics profs in iits who are btech, and then did phd in Physics

    What are the carrier opportunities after doing MSc in physics from BTech background in mechanical engineering??

    • @PhysicsUntethered
      @PhysicsUntethered  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, if you're planning to do PhD in Physics, then MSc Physics may help you with that. Or becoming eligible for assistant professor recruitment where msc plus net is required. Btech grads can now a days directly apply for integrated MSc PhD/direct PhD positions without obtaining seperate MSc degree. This was not the case few years ago when institutes were reluctant to take btech grads. One can now easily get PhD positions, if he/she qualifies the relevant exams such as gate, csir-ugc jrf, jest etc. You can look up more on the website physicsafterengineering.blogspot.com/?m=1
      I hope I was able to answer your question. Do let me know if you have any other question.
      All the best.

      @@Animeabhay-tw9fc technically you can join direct phd after btech in many research places but that is competitive. If you plan to do masters, then doing btech will be harm to your cv a bit, as an extra year will be spent in btech (4 years).
      So ideally, if you really really want to do research in Astrophysics, then btech will tske your extra year, as well as subjects are different than Physics so you'll need to read Physics too.
      But if there is no option, then go for btech, take as my courses of Astrophysics you can take, approach any good Astrophysics professor and start working with her/him by 2nd year end or so.
      An engineer with knowledge of Theoretical Physics is a full package if you look at the good side :)

      Hi Arghojit. Well, if you're not sure about going for phd, you can go for btech in your preferred branch. That will give you a good job opportunities. You can later apply for masters and phd in Astrophysics once you feel that you're ready for that (there are a lot of btech people who did project in physics and then applied for ms/ phd abroad.)
      This is totally my personal opinion and you should definitely discuss it with others.

      @@arghojitsaha3568 What you can do is, you can also take some of physics coursework during your btech, and work an extra mile by doing a small project in Astrophysics. In this way, you will be able to show the institute that you have taken some coursework in Physics and that you're aware of fundamentals. Trust me, now a days there is fine line between science and engineering. Your CSE skills will go a long way in your Astrophysics work.
      You can also later do a 6 months project and then apply phd abroad (after your btech and job, whenever you plan for phd abroad).
