That's the truth...ridiculous how much food is costing a family nowadays. I went to Aldi and spent 333 dollars for a family of 4. That's a grocery haul for 2 weeks. Kills me, because that would have cost me about 200 some time ago. Sad...middle class family struggling like we are. I feel for you all!! ❤

It’s hard to stick to a budget these days. I’ve found that eliminating processed and packaged foods has helped my budget tremendously. We eat a lot of sheet pan dinners these days with fresh meats I buy at a local farm and fresh veggies and fruits from farmers markets. Seems to be working for us pretty well. I’ve started baking from scratch, muffins and egg bites and such, that’s a money saver as well. Thanks for the tips, us Ladies have to stick together and share secrets to survive. ❤

I'm so encouraged by your enthusiasm and drive to become debt free. We are debt free and so is our son. We are also encouraging other family members to do the same. It is so freeing. Sometimes you have to wait a whi!e for things, but it makes you appreciate them all the more. The Dave Ramsey plan works. We are proof. Sometimes it isn't easy or popular, but it is the right path. Keep up the good work. I always look forward to your videos!

Great news on the cutting back on non nutrient dense junky snack foods, another thing to try to get them to eat is a piece of fruit or dried fruits,

when I shopping I buy fruit that's on sale and the same for veggies, I need dairy I try to buy sales but I find cheese areaways on sale and now eggs are back down in price, I do buy cereal but only what's on sale. Eating out is costly but I think need a break so 2 times a month is what I call pretty good. I don't do fast food or coffee out.

Good for you for setting goals to spend less on groceries. The snacks especially add up! You'll have to let us know how your kids are doing with this. Real food instead of goldfish crackers and chips! I love it! When I was growing up my mom never bought snacks. I'd be really hungry before dinner and she'd hand me a carrot or a big cabbage leaf to tide me over until dinner. I grew up with lots of casseroles. She beefed up recipes with beans. When we had chicken, we would eat the whole thing, including the back!!!!

That's what we do too with the whole snack situation. We'll buy chips sometimes and random stuff at other times but rarely have snacks. It helps so much and by feeding them better foods, they'll stay full longer.

Just a tip I have used for many years, buy meat in bulk ( especially from a butcher) it is cheaper. I separate into baggies and into the freezer. I also use Dave Ramseys envelope system and tye every dollar app.

Little things like making coffee at home and not eating out makes a huge difference budget wise. I don't find it hard considering service everywhere is terrible, the food/coffee is mediocre and very unhealthy and of course, the prices. My husband and I eat fast food maybe twice a year. I would rather buy quality groceries and eat at home. Our bank account likes it too lol.

This was such an eye opening video. Including dog food and toiletries and eating away from home, I am also curious and am definitely gonna crunch some numbers. I am so curious now and yes we can all cut back somewhere. Prices for literally everything are outrageous and now is most definitely the time to change habits. Also loving the grocery hauls! I think those are some of my favorite things to watch. Who doesn’t like new dinner/ meal ideas. Thanks! Have a good day Karrie

I was just recently thinking how we spend way too much money on snacks, I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve already cut back heaps on eating out because of how crazy expensive it is for our family of 7. In Australia the portions sizes of everything is getting smaller but somehow it costs more 😅

Good job! 👏 We went through Dave Ramsey's class twice and got the basics of it but it was really hard for us to stick to his plan. I discovered the Budget Mom in 2020 and it's been a game changer! We paid off all our debt and still lived life. We are the same with food, it's the one category we spend the most on. You can definitely get creative and save money different ways.

I've also been trying to cut back on our grocery bill. We cut out some foods that just aren't good for us to start. Also, rather than buying individually packed snacks (that make life a little easier on us parents), I've been buying the regular size and pre packing them myself each week. Takes a little extra prepping on the weekend.

I agree food is a killer right now. Here’s some things I’ve done to help. Cook once eat twice on meals. Batch make and freeze your own grab and go breakfast ( waffles and sandwiches work great). Bulk buy meat. Sourdough is your best friend and shockingly not hard. Make ahead a bunch of pizza crusts or pizzas to freeze. Have at least 4 crockpot dump meals in your freezer. Get a rotisserie chicken, shred it and keep it in the fridge for quick meals or freeze it. See what you buy prepackaged that’s easy to make yourself (coffee creamer is one). Once you get in a routine with this stuff you’ll be shocked at the time and money you save. I know I was.

That is how I do my weekly menu. I just list what food I have on hand to make and I don't assign meals to a day unless I have to plan around a certain event on a particular day. I cross off the meal after I serve it for dinner. I find assigning meals to a certain day is too restricting and I would rather make whatever I feel like depending on how much effort I feel like putting into it or how much time I have on that day lol.

The kids could split a sandwich that way they won’t spoil their dinner. Good idea to tell the kids and Dylan no eating new snacks till the others are done, and not buying them to be tempted is good. My hubby and I agreed not to buy chips and other junk stuff and it’s made a difference for sure That’s the items that should be more money and not fresh veg and fruit.

Hey Karrie, i love your ideas for getting out of debt. We used to go out to eat every weekend when my husband worked outside the home and made more money. However our budget has changed alot since he works out of the home and doesn't make as much as he used to. I myself have a dairy intolerance. So i have to be careful about what I eat. We eat at home mostly. We treat ourselves to steaks on Fridays. We buy our beef, and bacon at the butcher. We have what we call our big breakfast on Sundays. So we pay cash for our groceries. We have things we sre currently paying off right now, but getting there. I admire you for wanting to reach certain goals. Thank you for sharing.

I am surprised at your grocery bill since you have little kids. Wait until you get teenagers Karrie. You are so smart to cut back now and really find ways to crockpot and stretch those food dollars. Karrie, When My grands come over to Nana's I make a whole bunch of cookies , But I use a cake mix. So chocolate i will use chocolate chips, etc, You can use spice cake, vanilla, cake etc. The box cake makes so many more then regular cookie mix just use 2 eggs for cookies and the directions on the box. Just google box cake cookies and you can see all the variations . They are really good and stretch the budget, Just a idea,☺

Thank you for tipping - so many people nowadays don’t - 45 years ago as a waitress my bills depended on tips - if someone does a service for you tip - common decency- all my grown children tip and tip well - I hammered that lesson in lol- as an older woman someone shopping and delivering my food is tipped - it’s a blessing- I spend about the same on groceries but no eating out- just me and hubby and 2 grandkids whom are over a lot- I’m trying to cut it down also- does include chicken feed and dog food and household items though- occasionally I buy bulk meat to split with the grandbabies parents cause things are tight everywhere

I'm doing the same thing. Food prices are crazy now. I went to the store yesterday and we have to make do! LOL
