You did yourself proud with this one!! At first I thought it was going to to have a grapevine look, but I really like the way it turned out............... Keep turning them out.
I knew it! I knew it! You could not resist texturing and coloring, AND I am so glad. I love the artistry, the surprise, the delight. L’audace, toujours l’audace. Levis Canada
man you are so great artist great inspiration for every woodturner in the world that like to go to texturing and painting techinques ! i wish i can come to your presetation !!! have a great week brother !
Thanks, Holly - don't worry, more videos will follow...I'm thinking of something taller and thinner for the next one like this....which means it'll probably be wider and flatter!
Liked the black. Liked the holes in the black with some still solid black areas. Liked the color(s) added to the holes. Think maybe I would have stopped in that neighborhood and made the edges of texture areas swoop and swirl around the black areas ( like rivers?). Still the end results of the additional carving, black edging, and spraying turned out nice. Wish I could come to Maker’s Central to watch the colors fly. Maybe we can get you over to this continent for some in person demos!!!
Thanks, Valerie - you know how hard I find it to stop once I get started! The power tools just make it too easy and tempting to texture, texture, texture....but I know what you mean - sometimes less is more. It would be great to get over to your continent and do some demos....never been to the US before.....Cheers!
It was really interesting to see just how much wood you had to trim away from that huge log to get to what you could use. Then when you added the textures... it kind of blew my mind. Nice job! 💜
An excellent demonstration of turning, texturing and colouring! Well, what else would you expect from Stewart Furini who is known to turn firewood to art wood! Very rarely he is known to turn firewood into coloured firewood. Cheers Roger
Well, I wasn't expecting that. It's one of those pieces that I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I could spend hours looking at it. It is simply fascinating! Nice work sir.
Thst was brilliant mate. I had to rewatch this several months later and had to comment this time. It was the first time I noticed you had two eye glasses on your noggin. I am so glad I missed it the first time because that bowl is beautifully done. If I noticed the glasses the first time I would have kept trying to see if you still had them on throughout the video. You are very talented my friend, always love to see what you do next time.
Cheers! Glad you liked this one...I often have two pairs of glasses on me noggin.....sometimes I wear both pairs over my eyes as well! Not as lunatic as it might sound as they are different strengths (cheaper than varifocals!!!)
Another nicely shaped piece of wood. You could have stopped at the black and it would have been stunning, but I know you have difficulty restraining yourself. 😉 That's not a complaint, as I like the additional embellishments as well.
Thanks, Kevin! It seems a pretty regular pattern of work for me, to finally get something that looks ok at the end, even if on the way to getting there there are moments of ermm....really.....does this work.... Cheers!
I did wonder if you were going to end up with a platter the way you kept going ad going. Love the way the texture came out and I think it was important that you kept so much of the black as the contrast sets it all off, colour in the texturing not sure if it has improved it or not. Any reason why you don't start off between centres? You can adjust the piece as you go along to then get what you want from the blank rather than relying on which angle the face plate is attached.
Thanks, Paul. I put this on a faceplate as I was a bit concerned about all the checking in the end grain, which went quite deep - note to self...don't leave wood too long after cutting it before turning it! I was hoping to have something bigger, but the splits were a problem. As to whether the colour adds anything, I guess that's in the eye of the beholder...I'll be bringing it to Makers Central so you can see it in 'the wood' if you are coming. Cheers!
I have problems with this bowl. I like it. But when you first started it I said to myself 'it's got the pox' Now I'm having problems with the 2 conflicting ideas. I like it, is conflicting with, it's got the pox.
You did yourself proud with this one!! At first I thought it was going to to have a grapevine look, but I really like the way it turned out............... Keep turning them out.
Cheers, Phil - delighted you like it. It was fun to do the texturing and colouring - couldn't stop myself!!

Hi Stewart, really liked how that turned out and a great finish too! Just goes to show there's more to wood turning than just cutting the wood away 😊😊

Thanks, Tracey.....it was definitely worth keeping going over the texture and spraying this one a few times. Cheers!
Now that IS art.

Thanks, Kobie - it was fun to do this one. Thanks for your great comment! Cheers!
Interesting to see you using the crown hollowing tool.. I am trying to get to grips with that... great to see this type of texturing to. 👍
Thank you, Kevin. Yep, I seem to be getting drawn to hollowing lately...still some way to go on the learning curve! Cheers!!
Great piece, very different like the texturing.
Thanks a lot, Gary! Delighted you like it. Cheers!

Thanks, Roger! It was fun to do, and because of the cracks, ahem, I mean features, I wasn't too worried about taking the texturing so far. Cheers!
That’s amazing thank you for sharing 😘

Thank you, Barry - yep, it finished very nicely...shame about the crack but it still was fun to do. Cheers!
Hey Stewart
I really like the contrast colors in the texturing. Nice piece. Thanks for sharing
Glad you like it, Steven. Thanks for commenting. Cheers!!
Nice! To bad it cracked. I have bought an airbrush kit, you have inspired me to give it a try.
Thank you, Greg! Delighted you like it. Have fun with your airbrush kit. Cheers!!

Another very original masterpiece Stewart! 🤗Love the colours and texturing, stop worrying about the cracks, they are "features"!! 😂
Thanks, William - in that case this one has plenty of features! Glad you like it. Cheers!!
Very nice piece and a big thank you for the inspiration, I know what I'll be doing this weekend! Regards, wooddude.co.uk

Outstanding. You knocked this one out of ball park. What tool did you use for the hollowing. Thanks. Stewart.
George
Thanks, George - glad you like it! On this one I used the Crown Revolution Midi Tool and the Simon Hope 6mm carbide hollowing tool. Cheers!
Great video again Stewart, very informative. Where did you locate the extension bar when you sanded the inside of the piece ??
Thanks, Martin! I think it came from Axminster. I'm using a Simon Hope sanding arbor for a drill - they fit inside hex bit holders. Cheers!
