      Tucker Gott lol Tucker, funny seeing you here, I watch your videos every so often when a new one comes out just watched the coffee one, walmart, and you flying to breakfast today. I'm looking to get a paramotor in the future, have my mind on Nirvana but I would stray away from Blackhawk to be honest, I think there quality just isn't there yet.

    MISTAKES:
    -assuming to control elevators while it is actually brakes.
    -Peter is braking too much! what generates lift is speed and not the "elevators"(BRAKES).
    -leading out of the spiral way to quick and then braking it almost doing a dynamic stall followed by a huge surge resulting in cravats and lineover.
    NEXT TIME:
    - Stall: fly high to a safe altitude to practice, once high start pull down the brakes symmetrical and notice the point where it stalls on your radio. Now you know where not to pull in normal flight to prevent accidental stalls.
    -Spirals: (Motor OFF!) pull down one side gently (don´t stall! you should know your stall point by now). To exit release gently, don´t brake both sides! to bleed off the energy just keep turning on the same direction with less brake input, releasing slowly to normal flight.

    Great fun to see you guys picking up the ins and outs on paramotoring! You might find it interesting to rig it onto a trike or quad, then you could launch the way we do!

  • @iant8842
    @iant8842 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As has been said the "brakes" are not elevators. They are used for 2 purposes - firstly by using one brake you can turn left or right (which is what the rudder/aileron stick does) secondly both brakes (the elevator stick) can be used to flare the paramotor just before landing. Throttle is used to climb or descend. There are heaps of TH-cam vids on flying a paramotor or paraglider (full size) that shows how they fly.

  • @tonyredhawk
    @tonyredhawk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As an owner of a real life one, I gotta say that is one RC that I want. It would be so very cool to fly it when conditions are more active than I would launch in, then when my RC guy is flying in nice launch air then time to put him away and go up myself.

    Love the idea of the para-glider but one thing you could do to "jazz it up" would be; while using FPV, to use a head tracker to bank/turn left and right and use a ground radio trigger style for throttle. That would be ace!

    It's funny how they are COMPLETELY clueless when it comes to the physics of how a ram air airfoil works. They barely scratched the surface of all the cool stuff they could do with that. Like the spirals, full loops, thermal gliding. I bet / hope behind the scenes they're learning all this stuff and we get a revisit very soon. It's a totally new area and visually stunning if they can learn the tricks. It would be even more fun to watch if Peter designed a reserve chute system (wink wink).
    Also a thought lesson for flight nerds out there that aren't familiar with canopy systems. Think about what adding weight so far below the airfoil would do to the flight characteristics. Little hint, with a parachute you can only yaw; And in that setup yaw always becomes roll. It's like a pendulum.

    I thought about bringing mine to Flitefest last year, but didn't know how you guys felt about it, haha. There is an annual fly-in (similar to flitefest, but only for actual paramotors) every year in Newton Falls, OH. Only about an hour or two from you guys if I remember correctly. It's usually the first weekend in August. Come on up and do an episode! I'll definitely be there again this year flying around. There will even be people to give free rides again next year, I'm sure. Let me know if you'd like more info :) Great episode!

    someone in the U.S. needs to make these.
    AL or 3d printed frame just needs to be a motor mount, and bolt the receiver and servos. the parafoil is abt $30, but I think if you had the material you could copy one smaller so to make a model under 8 oz/226g

    Graupner already had such a Paramotor in program (in Germany/Austria) about twenty years ago. It was called Sky-Surfer and was equipped with a semi-rigid canopy -wing which prevented from wing-foldings (not always) in extreme maneuvers. It had only two channels: Throttle and "aileron". It was advertized for bloody beginners. However I lost mine during a strong wind- it climbed away since it had absolute no penetration power. However it was fun to fly for me when i was 12-years old.
    Nevertheless, they are a bit tricky to fly.

    @clairepowell742 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi guys . slowing a paraglider down is why you are stalling the glider . hands up position is the only way it will fly . The only time you would bring hands down are a quick jab for pitch stability. and then landing (the flair) to slow the glider down . A paraglider wing only has a small speed window to fly in . To quick and it will climb ( even to the point of stall ). to slow and then it will collapse. The wing is soft and requires air passing over creating a small amount of pressure . Other wise it is just material

    That's not "up elevator." Those are the brakes, which is both left and right brake toggle at the same time. It would have helped if you had a quick briefing on canopy dynamics from someone before flying. To go up, add throttle or find a thermal.

    Isn't what you are calling "Elevator" actually the "brake", used for flare, controlling canopy position (to avoid collapsing canopy when reducing power suddenly) and dumping lift (by "stalling" the wing). ?

    • @JohnUllrey
      @JohnUllrey 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +kadmow Correct, only left and right brake and together they act like flaps. When you cut power suddenly the wing will surge forward and can collapse (frontal). The wing can also stall when a lot of power is applied too quickly. Also you have to let it fly , too much brake will stall the wing (collapse) . When turning, controls need to be held on to keep it turning. Bottom line is that you have to be really smooth on the controls and on the power, pilot induced oscillation get's out of hand quickly and the pendulum effect will work against you. I fly a full-scale one (see my channel), but haven't flown a powered one yet. Someday...

    @johnlaccohee-joslin4477 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed that after having put it into the tree , the next time you had it in the air, we could see the figures hand, to which the brake lines are attached.
    Straight away i could see what was causing the bad handling,
    To climb, a steady throttle is kept on even in a nice slow turn, however if you happen to move the model.s hands, which only go up and down, and are in fact the brake lines, you actually stall the wing making it fold loosing air from inflating it.
    The only time you use the brake lines is on coming in to land, just before you touch the ground, you push down on the brake line which reduces forward movement and speed, at the same time putting the wing into a stall which in real situations will give a slight rise and then a decent at slow speed allowing you to prepare to start running reducing to a stop as the wing folds and decends behind you, as you go to this position the power is cut or at least put into idle which with a little luck will keep the wing straight out behind you, theres nothing more soul destroying that for the wing to come in behind you into the prop which is why most tend to cut the power totally.

    Flitetest , the videos you guys crank out are amazing every-time , and I have learned a lot from you guys over time. However, i have been thinking lately. You guys have a abundance of rc planes , quads and helicopters . What are you're thoughts with the new FAA law drone registration ? I would assume many people before me have brought the topic up , but are you going to register all of the equipment Flitetest owns ?

    I love the little pilot dude with the googly eyes!
    question... does this count as an Unmanned Arial Vehicle? did the FAA specify that it has to be human?

    What do you think about having to register all drones and planes over 9oz?
