This is the first piece of Sonic media that has ever made me emotional. Ever. I was a superfan as a kid and still like the series at age 29 and even then nothing comes remotely close to this in that regard. That scene of Shadow dreaming about a life with Maria on Earth combined with that song playing, and those lyrics, hit pretty hard. I really hope the third movie pulls something similar off. Make us feel just as devastated as Shadow when Maria dies by showing their bond and him lamenting the life that was taken from him.
Someone on Twiiter pointed out that the flashbacks at the end might actually be Shadow imagining what life could have been with Maria living on Earth. "That life was taken from me long ago" hits so much harder now with that thought. Now I just KNOW the game's ending is gonna be even sadder.
These flashbacks are revealing Shadow's (dark) fate that was awaiting him if Maria was still alive and healed. He is heartbroken to know that he was fated to "die" after comlleting his "quest" to heal Maria, and that Maria knew about that since the very beginning.
Oh, those aren't flashbacks at the end. Those are the thoughts of what could have been if none of this ever happened, if Maria lived and could return to Earth with him in tow. Thoughts not uncommon in people who are still grieving the loss of someone very dear to them. Even if you can move on and keep going they never truly go away sometimes, and Black Doom's influence in the first episode definitely helped bring them to the surface once more
I knew Ian was behind this when I first saw the preview to Sonic X Shadow Generations’s prologue a few months ago-Ian also helped with the writing of the IDW, and with how excellent that is, when I heard Ian is also behind this, I was excited. If only he had an all out anime in this style. The flashbacks Shadow had of Maria broke my heart dude. Funny how the song is called “Without You”, contrasting Sonic Frontiers’s “I’m With You”.
Shadow story was the saddest story we've ever seen even when he was in space he was remembering Maria 😢 I was going to cry when he was remembering her😢
If this is any indication of what the story will be like in the game, it's gonna be heartbreaking, and Shadow's cold facade is probably gonna break in the most heart-wrenching way at some point in the game.
Only he can write this story with such emotion since he knows the franchise like the back of his hand, far better than any hardcore Sonic fan in the world, including us. Respect
I'm glady you enjoyed it, I know I did. Between Roger voicing the Gun commander, the emotions Shadows is feeling, and the song from Casey Lee Williams, this is probably my favorite episode.
I was left with a huge bittersweet smile on my face once I finished watching this. I even now feel inspired to think about creating an art piece on Procreate
1:47 he don't need to dodge because those are not bullets, those flares function are get the attention of the missile so the ship is no longer the target, military airplaines use the same thing irl.
It's going to be hard for Maria and Gerald Robotnik when Shadow from the future in Generations tells them about their deaths and it's going to be really sad for Shadow in the end of the game they both have to return to their own time period and accept their fate
My Favorite part was when Shadow used Chaos Control But the Flashback about Maria, Was heartfelt 😢 and Sad, So very, very Sad, it made me Speechless, it almost made me wanna cry 😢 Also, I don't know what song is whlie Shadow is in space, heading to the Ark, But it sounds good.
I wish they could do like a Sonic X reboot with all-new seasons, continue Sonic Boom or Sonic Prime - or even better yet, I want to see someone do an Unleashed series in 2D or 3D
The ending of the final episode was by far the most beautiful and heartbreaking out of the all three episodes and the montage of Shadow remembering his time with Maria really hit me hard especially the scene where Maria put a blanket over him as he was sleeping made my heart melt I love Shadow so much and I can’t wait to play Sonic x Shadow generations later this month 👍🦔🖤😢

Hey Grace I have something 2 tell ya, since u watched 3 episodes of Shadow I think you should watch again but now there’s 1 new 1 with all 3 of Dark Beginnings merged into 1 with same thing….. but there’s a bonus ending that something inside the ARK appeared. But make sure u have tissues 4/ emotional parts & the bonus ending will give goosebumps.
