Please bear in mind, TH-cam compression ruins footage!

Even if your video is recorded and edited in 1080p, if you export and upload in 4K it allows for a higher bitrate during playback on youtube. Could help with the visible compression during the darker scenes.
      Great video by the way!

    • @AlynWallace

@@yuppymike thanks dude. I did try that a couple of years ago (uploading in 1440p) and saw a little benefit, need to investigate again. My biggest issue atm is that I'm in a remote area of Turkey and uploading a 4k 20 minute vid would take days 😅

Great review Allyn! It is a low-light beast. The only frustrating thing Sony is still not solving is the 'star eater' issue. They have these amazing sensors, amazing lenses with minimal comma, amazing cameras like this......but still can't clearly capture the night sky!! I am guessing they will come out with a dedicated astro camera solving the Star Eater issue as the hobby is taking off right now, and charge way more for it.

Hey Alyn. What are the best possible settings on the A7Siii for timelapses of stars? Assume stills mode is better than video for it? I can use interval mode if it's good enough for TV (it's for a UK doc on UFOs). Got a 24 - 70 2.8 G, a wide angle Sony G which I believe is f1.8, it might be 2.8 need to check as I've barely used it, a 70 - 200 2.8 and 100 - 400 f5. Assume the best lens is the wide angle or the one with the widest aperture (1.8 wide or the 2.8 24 - 70). Specifically looking to do nice timelapses. The sort of timelapses you see in broadcast docs about the night sky. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Alyn, would you mind answering a question for me. I currently have the sony alpha one and the A7R4. I’m mainly into Landscape, portrait photography and some animal sports action photography and also really enjoy Astro photography. These 2 camera’s obviously aren’t very good at Astro with their high pixel count. I’m not into video at all for info. Could you tell me what is the best Astro sony camera out there for stills only. Is it still this A7SIII? At £3799 it’s a lot of money for a 12.1MP camera if you don’t do video. I’m just so conflicted as to whether this is the right camera for me for Astro still’s photography. Hello friend, great video, thank you!!! I am looking for a camera especially for recording moving objects in the night sky (like satellites, UFOs, etc), and as I can see the Sony A7S is the best for this purpose. I'm a newbie and I need to make the right choice, as these equipments are quite expensive. Could you please help me?? Do you think the Mark I can do the job (to get a sharp and clear recording of a moving object in the night sky) or is it worth spending a few more dollars on a Mark II or another option? Or maybe you can indicate a more accessible option (it can be other brands or models)?? Thank you very much! :)

      4k or 1080p? a7iii a6400/a6100 even a6300 is a good & affordable option for 4k video in low light.

Hi guys. I'm thinking of getting the Sony A7III. What are your thoughts on that camera?
I'm honestly stuck between that one and the A7RIII/A7SIII. Please. Anyone... I need help. I've been dreaming of getting into photography, and astrophotography mainly. I need your experience and opinions. Obviously the A7III would be easier on my wallet and I could use the remaining money on a tripod/sd cards/ extra batteries, etc.

You can upload low iso tests in 4k where youtube spends a lot more bandwidth. It's very skimpy on HD these days.

@@AlynWallace makes sense as RAW images are unprocessed meaning no noise reduction applied, same goes for RAW video but that takes more space & need external monitor recorder
