Excellent video Alistair just bought my step fathers old rc 24 off him 1986 with only 34 thousand odd kilometers on the clock not even 30 thousand mile for bike 4 years older than me 😳 i was always a straight 4 kinds guy never thought I'd see the day where I'd fall in love a vtwin engine the noise she makes when you open her up is something special indeed! Them gear driving cams are a delight really love the white mine is black with thin gold and silver strips down the side very very nice bikes
I've a 92 bike and did a carb clean. Refitting, I put the front bank in position fully, the rear bank, I'd the rubbers separately from carb and head, all surfaces smeared in vaseline, heated the rubbers and all sitting in place loosely,a real good hard push down and straight on with no issues.Cleaning them was the cure.Bike laid up for 12 years and float bowls full of what looked like brown sugar. All I had to clean them was a toothbrush,an air line and a can of carb spray but it worked and the bike runs great now.Going for MOT soon after 14 years off the road( it lay in my shed a further 2 years). Your bike looks like a good example. I've a very early cbr600 that's a low mileage bike almost as clean as your vfr
Thanks for commenting and watching. Yeah, if I had to do it again I'd definitely employ the services of a heat gun and vaseline, hopefully I won't have to take them off again. I was out on her about two weeks ago and it's running like new!
Thanks for watching niuck. It's been a while since I made these videos but I can tell you that it really was a good job. The bike is absolutely 'on the button' now. Starts perfectly and runs perfectly. Hope you get the same results.
Just finished watching the whole carb series, Alistair and a fine job too. I've just acquired a '94, so have the entire carb adventure to experience (along with a few others). The bike's been off the road 15 yrs with the occasional tickle and despite the thing refusing to run (clogged slow jets so I found) the carb condition doesn't generally look too bad but due to its extended 'rest' period, it'll be getting the full treatment. Thanks again! 👌🏻
Good man Pete. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully the videos will help you along the way. It's always a bit daunting when you're starting to pull things apart and it's nice to be able to see the pitfalls and avoid them accordingly. Good luck!
I didn't see that one hiding under the covers. What a bike collection. Vfr750 one off the best bikes ever made and the start of the amazing history than is the vfr. Looking forward to the progress of this one and Jimmy in the. Cheers allister.
@@AlistairCampbell1047cc oh you sure are lucky be able to get scared the odd time. I had a stroke four years ago and is a little frustrating not to be able to have a bike anymore. Been riding bikes from an early age and basically done what your doing as a past time. That's why I love watching your vids, sure brings back old memories.
You're very welcome Oliver. As you can tell, I'm no expert but it always helps to have something to look at just to see what the job entails. Thanks for watching & commenting.
Thanks for a great video. I'm tackling this same job today on my 86 VFR. Flat spot just off idle so I suspect the pilot jets need cleaning. I was about to stop the video at the end until you said you were going to hoover Jimmy!
Thanks for you comments Simon and good luck with your carb work today. The most difficult part of the job, for me, was refitting the carbs. A new set of inlet rubbers would have made it a whole lot easier I'm sure but unfortunately, my budget doesn't stretch to that. Also, if you're replacing jets etc.. with Chinese parts, examine them very, very closely for compatibility as I got caught a couple of times with wrongly sized jets. Regards, Alistair.
I'm a big fan of those, please consider getting in touch with me if you'd like to sell it in the future. It would receive a good home for sure! Manny thanks
@@AlistairCampbell1047cc no problem, and I totally understand. Got 3 of those machines already (one of which is basically getting stripped apart and refurbished) - the other two are waiting in line :) also planning to get more and create a private mini, RC24 collection :)
Jim, you can watch me making a hash of it then you'll know what to avoid. My bedtime reading at the minute is the Honda VFR750 workshop manual! Wish me luck.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Those forks are bog standard mate. That's an anti-dive mechanism which, to be truthful, I'd all but forgotten about. Not sure that it makes a great deal of difference.
E10 and a couple winters in a cold damp environment should sort it. Open vented systems were never designed for modern fuels. Changes in temperature and barometric pressure draw in humidity that condenses along with ethanol and additives, the result is a crusty mess. The joy of older bikes is there will always be something that needs doing next.
I have the model after yours mine a 88 fj model mine a minter aswell will never sell it had mine 14 years these early vfrs are as good as a modern bike got a 94 fr one aswell and a 2015 800 model my fj model done 63000 miles runs like a swiss watch every vfr model is a good bike.
Thanks for watching and commenting Andy. That's an impressive stable of VFR's you have there. They are definitely a great bike and more than quick enough for an auld codger like me.
Absolutely beautiful bike.. lot better shape than mine. I let mine sit because the fork tubes needs a rebuild and now the carbs need rebuilt but have never taken of a V carb only inline.. thanks for the video this will help me out a lot. How many miles do you have on it? I believe I have 65,000 miles on mine and unfortunately because I'm in the US I have the 700 that was sold.
Paul B, thanks for watching. I have only 38,000mls on mine. I'm glad the video has helped you. We are currently in the process of changing to E10 fuel here in the UK so there might be a few more carb issues in the future. Hopefully not.
Hi Motofiction, hopefully this is a job that I will have to do only once. It was all my own fault in the first place. I left the bike sitting for about two years and the inside of the tank rusted quite badly. This then led to the needle seats not sealing correctly and the carbs overflowing etc... I have cleaned and re-sealed the tank, sorted the carbs and I look forward to no more issues in the foreseeable future.
Christian, merci d'avoir commenté. Il m'a fallu beaucoup de temps pour réparer correctement les carburateurs, mais maintenant je suis très satisfait du résultat.

Thanks for your kind comments. The VFR is a great bike. I'm going this morning to try to get a new front tyre. Wish me luck!

Funny how at 5:00 your carb tops are naked. Mine have black rubber trumpets sticking out of them. Mine's an 89 model. Wonder if they're modified?
Looking forward to the progress of this one, I have something similar to do, carbs on my PC800 could do with a clean.

That's what I'm afraid about is the gas that we use has the corn gas added to it..
How often do you have to work on the carbs? I am trying to decide between a VFR 750 with carbs and a VFR800Fi.

@@motofiction4233 absolutely right. You should really never have to do this job unless there is a problem with dirty fuel.
