Robbie has since been the to-go guy for Carcharodons novels because he's the one who knows what's up with them, but their use of kirituhi can't be credited to him. As for what those secrets are, MacNiven is apparently committed to revealing them in dramatically effective fashion or not at all. Are they Ashen-Claw-descended Raven Guard successors? Loyalist Night Lords made by those Ashen Claws from Night Lord geneseed they raided? A chimeric mixture of the two? Loyalist World Eaters who hooked up with the Ashen Claw nomad-predation fleets, even? (There's a passage in Outer Dark where an Ashen Claw implies that a captured World Eater is of the same heritage as the Carcharodon point of view character.) One of the two missing Legions, with Tyberos being so big because he's a sekrit Primarch? (Probably not that one.) Only Robbie knows! And he'll only tell if he's given an opportunity to write another Carcharodons book and he feels the reveal would be a natural thing to include in its narrative and not just a forced lore dump stapled to it. -Their attack on the Mantis Warriors during the Badab War is primarily notable for its methodology. The Mantis Warriors were engaging in hit and run guerilla war, but despite being on the side of Lugft Huron's traitors they were still culturally a loyalist space marine chapter with strong ties to duty to their recruiting worlds, so the Carcharodons dealt with them by... just attacking and slaughtering civilian population centers on Mantis Warrior worlds to draw them out of hiding. The space sharks love them some war crimes, a trait shared by World Eaters, Night Lords, and pre-Corax Raven Guard alike, so that doesn't help unravel the mystery any. -If you want an alternative to metal ball bearings, you can get styrene hemispherical rivets from a number of manfacturers, usually sold in model train stores. I loved this video. The deep dive into lore, the respect for the cultural inspiration, the narration overall... Really nice. I'm not sure if you're at all interested in feedback regarding the painting. In case you are, I have some minor pointers that could very easily elevate your paintjob: if you use a make-up brush instead of a harder-bristled regular brush and wipe it on MDF or a similarly porous surface, the end result will be less chalky and less streaky. Additionally, a quick glaze with a midtone (and a shadow towards the... well, the shadows, if you don't mind the extra effort) would smooth out the end result a lot. Hope this doesn't get across badly. I really like your paintjob (especially those tattoos, damn) and the awesome conversion/kitbashing you've done. Thank you friend! Although I only now thought to think if any company sells Space Shark decal sheets. Could be big for prospective Shark players if they do be real 🤔
Sick-ass freehand work, my guy. On another note, for those looking for shark-y bits for future projects, Pete the Wargamer is going to release his "Dead Animal Bits" sprue soon. I backed the Kickstarter, and from the updates it seems like they're not too far off as of this writing. (I intend to use all the shark bits on my Traitor Guard army (when Wargames Atlantic delivers on The Damned), as trophies taken from their native desert planet's "Sand Sharks". I'm thinking necklaces made from thin garden wire with teeth glued to it, and the jaws stuck on my Ogryn or the fronts of vehicles).
Thanks chief! Always appreciate the support. I missed out on the Kickstarter but I definitely want to get a box of the sprue for Chaos mutants. I saw a lot of shark stuff on the sprues as well so Space Shark players will eat good there too
I have seen it and it's a very high quality fan blog! I've talked to some people adjacent to the guys who run it and was just super impressed with their work in general, but for my purposes here I felt it would be more true to the purpose to stick to only official sources/content. That being said, it's a joy to peruse through and I second your recommendation
Two of my favorite chapters in one series? I feel downright spoiled! This mf came out so sick, that pose is *seriously* menacing. Can't wait to see what you do with the Charnel Guard and the rest of this series!!
Funny thing is the whole Islander vibe, although absolutely part of the sharks identity, was only a very small part of it. They had references of Celtic, Slavic and other cultures too when their redesign came for the Badab War campaign. But people ended up loving the tribal tattoo design and rode it into the ground and now the sharks are Māori in space. Nuance is not allowed
This guy's pose reminds me of an iron warrior of mine. The guy was built from leftover mk3 bits I printed some time ago. He stands perfectly straight up, holds his power sword to his side while looking slightly to the left. People claim that he looks stoic (not sure what that's supposed to mean in this context).
I think the freehand on those exile markings turned out great! Also I'd just like to note - the art of Tyberos at 11:04 and 11:20 are by L J Koh and Zhi Chen on ArtStation, respectively.
Thank you! And I've been trying to be better on sourcing art for these vids but it's still a bit of a new part of the workflow for me. Thank you for sourcing those 👍
@@TheLichsLaboratory No problem! Honestly that second one can be tricky to find the source on because it gets reposted so much, I only managed it cuz I remembered the vague source from tracking it down once or twice before.
1. Love your videos man, keep it up! 2. I subscribe to two more obscure theories on their origin. First is they're actually from the gene stock of the Night Lords, which would explain their stealthy/brutal ways and appearance. OR, they're really remnants of a lost legion, which would explain their secrecy as well as their ramshackle gear and their chapter masters freakish size.
Thanks chief! And I like both of those theories, although you could say the Sharks are generally misplaced until they show up randomly, making them "lost" in a sense regardless 😂

They’re mostly indifferent to them. Most are taken in red tithes as slaves. They’re not treated badly, but they aren’t given any luxuries either. They do their job and live in silence for most of their lives.
Stunning stuff mate! I have to ask what’s your recipe for the grey? What base colour and highlight have you used. And what’s the ratio for the custom wash you use at the end? :)
I normally don't like listing exact paints since I find it better to be able to approximate/mix paints on the fly, but I don't mind every once in a while I suppose 😏 Base coat Vallejo Black Grey 70.862 Drybrush Vallejo Neutral Grey 70.992 Drybrush Vallejo Sky Grey 70.989 The wash is: 1 part Army Painter Strong Tone 1 part Army Painter Dark Tone 2 parts Vallejo Glaze Medium
Depending on how parts fit together, I use green stuff to gap fill. I'll usually combine it with gel super glue before or after to get a really solid connection since I hate having super delicate models in general. I want my shit TANKY
I have always felt that it was most likely that the Carcharodons were made from experiments with Night Lord geneseed, or maybe even were founded by Night Lords that defected from their father. Their physical appearence fits the sons of Kurze to the letter, the exile marks would make sense with their complicated (traitorous) history, and their predatory tactics that rely on stealth and ambush in void warfare are similar to how Night Lords would also utiluze stealth. Plus it makes more sense for their founding to be so secretive if they were made from arguably the most bastardized primarch. Why be secretive if they were just Raven guard successors? Also the Night Lords book loves to make the comparison that Night Lords move through space like a Nostraman shark lurking in dark waters.
Most charcharodon players forget the exile markings, nice to see them pointed out here!
I wouldn't call it forgetting, it's more not being able to freehand...

Well, usually lol 😅
I agree. Seige does good work, but they don’t particularly do deep, accurate canon with all their work. This mini was A+
@@BruiserActual Painting standard-wise, yes. They do a cracking good job. Thematically though, it's a complete joke. Dull, passionless, and soulless looking Primaris models of yet another nameless chapter.
@@luckylarry71 agreed 👍🏼
Death guard: Plague bells and the sound of the undead.
Carcharodons: Silence and bloodshed
Death guard: "Those guys are scary even for us!"
Meanwhile the Carcharodons are just trying to kill them as fast as possible because they're loud and obnoxious 😂
Thanks ❤
😎👍
Dude! How the heck could your markings get any better! Those are insane! I am astonished at how good that look!
Thank you friend! Although I only now thought to think if any company sells Space Shark decal sheets. Could be big for prospective Shark players if they do be real 🤔
“The Carcharodons, the Flesh Eaters, the Red Talons, the Desth Eagles, and the Charnel Guard.”
*Jesus Christ that’s a horrifying combination.*
"Haha, I'm in danger"
could be worse. the death spectres or the minotaurs could have been involved.
False Primarch: * Sweats *
Just add the Marines Malevolent to the party and I'm pretty sure the World Eaters and the Iron Warriors would be falling back.
I saw a video about how it seems these chapters were picked on purpose for being just that terrible.
Beautiful work…I need a carcharodon army soon…Aloha!
Thank you chief! 🤙
@@TheLichsLaboratory 🤙🏽
I saw a lot of shark stuff on the sprues as well so Space Shark players will eat good there too
Looks so good!
Thank you kindly 😁
Somethingsarebetterleftforgotton+ is an excellent fanblog on the war
I have seen it and it's a very high quality fan blog! I've talked to some people adjacent to the guys who run it and was just super impressed with their work in general, but for my purposes here I felt it would be more true to the purpose to stick to only official sources/content. That being said, it's a joy to peruse through and I second your recommendation
Two of my favorite chapters in one series? I feel downright spoiled!
This mf came out so sick, that pose is *seriously* menacing.
Can't wait to see what you do with the Charnel Guard and the rest of this series!!
Thank you! It's definitely one of my favorite poses in my collection 🤩
Awsome mini
Thank you! 👍
Wow that turned out great. Good work
Thank you friend! And thanks for watching 😎👍
"could be better" my ass! those exile marks are literally flawless
you killed it dude
Rest in peace 😔🙏
(Thank you!)
Sounds pretty cool at least! I will always love a good neutral over an action shot 😎👍
Top notch video, instant subscribe
Thank you kindly! Glad to have you here chief 😁
Beautiful 🤘🏻
Thank you! 🙌
Gonna have to agree on this being one of your best marines.
Gotta disagree purely on the basis of being the anathema of all life and known public nuisance 🔫😐
(But thank you!)
Love what you've done with him
Thank you very much! 😁
I fight these guppies on the table top often. Good choice in chapter tbh
Guppies 😂
Oh hell yeah, that's some good stuff!
Thanks chief! 😁👍
love it, fantastic. the ONLY thing i'll say is that in the books their eye lenses are black like their actual eyes.
Oh yeah, it's even black on a lot of their artwork. Wonder why I did red then 🤔
Merci pour la vidéo
Merci pour votre soutien! je t'apprécie
Incredible job on the freehand btw
Thank you sir 😎👍

I instantly clicked on thsi video when I saw it. Man I can’t wait to see how this model comes out
Hope you enjoyed it chief 😁
Incredible freehand work
Thank you very much 😁
Very nice all over! I make the bases of my Heresy WordBearers the same way. I was wondering for a second why it was so familiar 😂
The ol' reliable scrap styrene and ziptie bases. They never fail bro 😏
LET'S GOOOOOO THE SPACE SHARKS!!!!!!!

Awesome video!
Thank you! 🙏
I love the carcarodons but i don't trust myself enough to try the exile markings
I believe in you friend! 😤👍

God I love 40k lore is a deep as fook
The fun never ends here 😅
Good stuff Brutha. Definitely read Red Tithe at least if you haven't. Its a great read.
I don't normally read books but I do keep a list of 40k books people suggest. When a friend wants a book I pull a name from it, so I can at least add it to that lol. I just don't really read a lot of any kind of book unless I need to 😅
I know you already got a good black recipe but you might want to check out juan hidalgos black recipe. Its so easy and so nice. I do it on all my black armor and for sections of black on larger minis
Sure I'll give it a glance. I've got black mostly solved but maybe that recipe can bring a level of innovation to my own
I imagine the space sharks are nice to their surfs but the surfs are scared shitless to a come near them.
As any reasonable person would be imo 😂
They’re mostly indifferent to them. Most are taken in red tithes as slaves. They’re not treated badly, but they aren’t given any luxuries either. They do their job and live in silence for most of their lives.
"I'm not a tattoo artist"
*Proceeds to show the most fucking gorgeous freehanding skill i ever saw*
This has made me want to collect Space Sharks because it gives me an excuse to make each marine unique with their markings
I ain't gonna tell you to do it
...but I will heavily imply it
Another Banger
This is the first comment I replied to but it's glitched or something and not registering 😭
I appreciate it man, thank you very much!
sick bro!!
Stunning stuff mate! I have to ask what’s your recipe for the grey? What base colour and highlight have you used. And what’s the ratio for the custom wash you use at the end? :)
I normally don't like listing exact paints since I find it better to be able to approximate/mix paints on the fly, but I don't mind every once in a while I suppose 😏
Base coat Vallejo Black Grey 70.862
Drybrush Vallejo Neutral Grey 70.992
Drybrush Vallejo Sky Grey 70.989
The wash is:
1 part Army Painter Strong Tone
1 part Army Painter Dark Tone
2 parts Vallejo Glaze Medium

Shark appreciator spotted in the wild, here's your complementary boi 🫴🦈
I noticed you use a lot of green stuff as opposed to a glue. Is that so you can get the perfect pose you want?
Yeah the Night Lords theory seems to be one of the more popular theories in the Space Shark... spaces.
what brushes are you using for the Exile markings?
I used a size 0 brush, but whatever has a really fine tip should work just as well
God this is cool af. I'm curious about the charnel guard when you get to them.
You and the other 50 gorillion other people excited for Charnel Guard got me nervous now 😂
@@TheLichsLaboratory we got expectations now lmao
