1:29 It takes less than 30 minutes to go from smashing altars to mining full Adamantite/Titanium armor if you optimize mining speed. Pre-hm ore mining isn't really faster. 2:55 There is a lot of stuff in-between HM boss fights though. Before any bosses, Pre-Mech has tons of content from new mobs to Hallow, to new ore to Pirate Invasion. Pre-Plantera has the challenge and task of building the big underground jungle area (unless you've done it beforehand). Post-Plantera has the dungeon, solar eclipse and the moon events, actually a ton to do there. Post-Golem has OOA tier 3 and Martian Invasion. And then Post-cultist has of course the lunar pillars. If anything, Pre-hardmode can actually be more of a sudden boss rush than Hardmode is past the early game. You gear up with good accessories and strong weapons, then you can quite easily blitz through EoC, BoC/EoW, (optionally) Deerclops and Skeletron without needing significant digging/building or even going out of your way for gear upgrades, just like that. And if you really want to, you can fight Wall of Flesh without a bridge if you get water walking boots or water walking potion. I feel like the real problem you have is that Hardmode is too combat-focused, rather than it necessarily being too boss-focused compared to Pre-hardmode.
Admittedly you can also just as easily skip the pre HM ores if you know what you are doing, lead isn’t very difficult to get and is often where I stop to go get an armor set such as the gladiator set, the fossil set, or the Jungle armor set for example (though getting those may require some good luck and some degree of skill tbh)
I think the point he’s trying to bring is that, Pre-HM is way more open in what you can do. You see points like “Pre-HM mining is faster” is not that it’s actually faster, but it’s just that while you’re exploring the underground, you’re not just looking for ores, you’re also there to find chests, get new accessories or weapons, and also to explore more parts of your world. While in HM you’re only there for mining ore (at least in pre-mech) and occasionally a enemy will drop an item that you need, and that is what really makes it boring.
I think it would be cool if after beating the wall of flesh, You could open a portal of sorts between hardmode and pre-hardmode, like a mirrored dimension The mirrored dimension would have the hollow, more corruption/crimson, the world generation would be horizontally flipped, chests would have hardmode-classed loot, the temple would spawn there, and SOME NPCs would be restricted to the mirrored dimension I think this could bring back some of the sense of exploration, like for pre hardmode, but with hardmode difficulty and rewards, and also not completely ruin your world the moment you kill the WOF (you could still bring hallow to the main world though)
My favorite part about pre hardmode is how getting a lucky item from a chest feels so much better than getting a lucky drop from an enemy. Finding hermes boots unexpectedly is so much better than finally having that last turtle shell drop.
If Pre Hardmode was Dragon Ball, Hardmode is Dragon Ball Z. Modded post moon lord is Dragon Ball Super because its just about fighting strong guys with clusterfuck lasers
i dont know if i prefer pre hardmode but i agree it definitely feels more peaceful and open. part of the boss rush feeling ive felt from hardmode is that the biome spread means if i dont hurry up and kill a mech i cant grab the clentaminator and if i dont hurry up and kill plantera afterwards it goes real fast. i love biome spread as a concept but the hardmode biome spread speed and capability (vs the just grass spread of pre hardmode) causes me lots of anxiety because if i dont take care of it the world will get tainted and id rather not have to make more huge artificial looking holes than necessary to clean it all up.
i forgot to mention that another thing i dislike a little is that a lot of content is locked behind the hardmode shift where i get that biome spread anxiety. maybe i shouldve commented this stuff on the biome spread video though lol
I almost fully agree just missing *my* personal #1 fav point it is the bosses, how non linear they are. only ONE is required in PHM, the rest all optional. EOC. prob the best "first boss" and he doesn't even have to be the first. a lot of my playthroughs I do the normal PHM shenanigans, go to underground desert, get fossil pick, go to normal underground, get miners armor, then to jungle and make an arena then fight queen bee. then from there I see PHM as *the* terraria experience. Normally after that I go off and start building. I like to collect all the town slimes I can, all NPC's I can (regrettably also stylist) get my vanity in order, fight skeletron cus I want the void bag to hold all my blocks for EVEN MORE building. kill deerclops then EOC to wrap up the PHM bosses, fish a bit to get some nice decor, THEN kill the wall of fresh ONLY (at that moment) for the holy hammer and hallow for A: New Biome to build in and make a themed base for, then for the HM blocks to improve my builds. after that I do the HM shenanigans... Make a dope ass arena, fight the mechs all at once cus sure, skip queen slime, kill plant, kill empress then duke, go bully golem, fight martians for the martian plate block for a UFO build that I HAVE to do... its the law, thne beat the game As seen PHM seemed a lot more fun, at least for me. because of how open ended it is.
I disagree that its better, I personally hate pre-hard mode because it can be very very slow and boring sometimes but I do think pre-hardmode is structured better and the slogan Dig, Fight, and Build make more sense in pre-hardmode. In hardmode its just a boss rush I wish there was more incentive to do events and side jobs I also wish there was more biomes to explore
I feel like, that it makes sense that first comes exploring and then excessive fighting. The world is generated and stays like it is. The chests, structures, biomes can’t just instantly change once the wall of flesh is dead. So after a while, the pre generated equipment won’t cut it anymore. So the only way to continue evolving is to make the Hardmode ores appear and fight enemies, that are leagues above pre hardmode enemies and equipment and use their drops (I’m sure their bodies are made of the materials they drop) to arm yourself to beat the Moon Lord to free the world and with that fulfill your purpose (That doesn’t mean you have to like any of that of course)
I can see where your coming from I personally like hardmode more because it makes you feel more powerful, gives you more options and the bossfights are better but i do agree that its too grindy and i can see why you would like pre hardmode more. For me bossifights are the main part of terraria, i like the parts inbetween but especially on singleplayer i just want to play the game in a boss rush style so hardmode suits that more
Prehardmode gang. I always prefered pre because to me it does feel like progression, while hardmode just feels like a not-well-thought-out magic system full of senseless overpower.
@Anonymous56543 Are you being sarcastic? The real difference would be that hardmode FORCES a specific order on you, by gatekeeping the content behind it. If I wanna beat Duke then Moonlord and nothing else, why am I not allowed to.
So my thought for a fix would be adding more ruins that are only accessible in hardmode. Have the lower dungeon be accessible via a key you get from an event, have a crashed martian saucer which you can unlock after the martian madness event. A dedicated area to Lunatic Cultist, because I have no earthly idea why Lunatic Cultust was just plopped in front of the dungeon. I'm thinking of how Calamity handles this with the Abyss' portions only being accessible after getting the abyssal diving suit, or the Astral ore being unlocked after Astrum Deus.
I kind of agree, pre-harde mode is more exhilarating due in large part to exploring a new but familiar world starting from almost nothing. I don't believe it falls short of content comparatively aside from exploration though. I'd also argue Terraria as three stages instead of two with the third being Post-Moon Lord where players are fully free to do as they will and shape their world, or seek potenial greater sights with mods.
Doesn't help the fact that the biome spread mechanic literally forces you to quickly dealt with all of the mech boss unless you want all of your world to be cleaned later
Honestly i love Hardmode because of the weapons and bosses i love are there abd gear variety is crazy but i completely agree woth everything you said! One of the worst things about this game is how those exact weapons i just mentioned get outclassed in like 1 or 2 boss fights and how some of them dont get much time to shine...
actually some pretty good points, I think the reason hardmode is the way it is though is becasue when it was first implemented it may have been way too much to do stuff like add many more biomes, and reshape the world, or add new loot to chests. I think maybe they should actually take a look back at all the content thats been unchanged for a while and maybe give some of it a makeover, pre hardmode and hardmode
i do think that the moon lord stage is a bit rushy and feels to quick, but i adore hardmode for the sole reason that the character customisability becomes way more interesting, in not only cosmetics but weapons and accessories as well. Pre hardmode feels great too for the reasons you mentioned before, but something feels so good about fighting the empress of light using a bunch of whips and the desert tiger staff that it just feels more exciting. I think that both parts of the game have their grindy parts, but it just seems like theres more to grind in hardmode because of the fact that hardmode is almost twice as long as pre hardmode progression wise. Additionally, I find the post skeletron part of the game to be really annoying and grindy, because you have to spend ages grinding for golden keys for an even smaller chance to get the specific weapon you want from a chest. compared to the post plantera dungeon, which ive never found arduous because the im almost always looking for another drop as well so the bone lees are like a nice bonus on the side. Back to the chests though, i have terrible luck when it comes to generated chest loot, which takes a lot of the fun out of the early exploration. The closest thing hardmode has is the biome chests, one of which has my favourite weapon in the whole game (desert tiger staff) and the keys are pretty hard to get, but if you didnt get a random drop, just build a box in the desert (or biome of choice) and afk with a summon, nimbus rod or the like to get it. Anyway great video, this comment is really long omg but yeah thats my take
Yes yes yes and yes. I 100% agree. It's also why I think most of modded Terraria misses the mark, because most mods just make the game into to even more of a boss rush. I want more biomes to explore, structures to find, things to loot. Maybe lock some of these things to hardmode and beyond to keep it interesting.
@ Maybe it’s a because I’m a fan of metroidvanias and souls games, but I always view bosses as either the thing that caps off an area as a way of testing g everything you’ve learned so far or the thing that introduces you to new things/areas. (Usually minor bosses do this) Pre hard mode is great at both. EOC is the ultimate test to new players. Queen Bee is found deep in the jungle. Eater/Brain is the culmination of the evil biomes. Skeleton guards the dungeon. Wall of Flesh is the ultimate test of the underworld. But hardmode bosses are more wild and feel more random. They have no build up. You just spawn it in. Except the two jungle bosses. That was always my favorite point of progression in hardmode. Plus Moon Lord is cool too.
My favorite thing about the game is the combat, so I don’t see a problem in a boss rush. However, I like both parts of the game equally because pre hard mode, while offering less combat it has less things I dislike as well. In pre hard mode i only really dislike the pre-boss stage due to just dying to pretty much anything (i usually don’t go for the ol’ reliable bow and instead go to the jungle to get that scrumptious jungle loot AND NOT WITH A COPPER SHORTSWORD IM NO MASOCHIST, maybe that’s why) and the stage right before WoF. In hard mode there’s the early hardmode experience (although I actually find it to be ok nowadays), building a plantera arena is always tedious and of course the pillars. Nobody likes the pillars. (I hope) I also probably have to mention that pre hard mode has a lot more freedom in how you want to progress, as every boss in pre hard mode (except for the boss of the opposite evil) is available right at the start of the game, compared to hard mode’s 5 (queen slime, the mechs and duke), although I don’t see a huge issue with more linear progression. TL;DR I 100% understand why people would like pre hardmode more, I like both pre hard mode and hard mode.
It's okay to like hardmode, even more than pre-hardmode, but I think people who dislike pre-hardmode are the people who only like big numbers and think that being super powerful = fun.
i get where you're coming from but i don't really agree, pre-hardmode imo is just as focused on the bosses it just has a slower pace, and hardmode still has a lot of exploration to do between the hardmode ores, souls, chlorophyte, lifefruit and the chlorophyte upgrades. hardmode exploration is also kept fresh by all the changes in the world, there's new enemies in every biome and the spread of hallow/evil makes the world feel pretty different. the only real difference besides the pace is that hardmode doesn't rely on chests to give you loot, relogic probably didn't want to refresh all the chests or add a ton of new chests so they had to rely on other methods to give you items, and besides the truly dogsh*t droprates on some of them i mostly think that was a good decision. obviously you're entitled to your opinion and i see why players would prefer pre-hardmode, but i don't think any of the changes are objectively bad design or going against what the game is meant to be about
I mean in hardmode there's a lot more enemies, items. There's new events like the martians and pirates and winter and halloween events. So I mean it's not really that much of a boss rush unless youre speedrunning or smth
@1nfectedandroid nah planterra and golem are better. I jumped straight from mechs planterra to golem with the same amour and won. The lazers from the mechs are so annoying
Never really thought about this but it makes sense, hardmode is for those who love terraria's fights and pre-hardmode is more chill exploration and building
Also, the gap between killing WoF and killing the first mech boss is the WORST moment in the game
EXACTLY
I honestly don’t find it too bad, spelunker potions got my back
the worst moment in the game is post golem because i need to fight empress of light and duke and i have skill issues
@@PudimRebaixado U don't have to fight them
u do if u play on harder difficulties since they drop useful stuff@@hajimehinata5854

Actually, the WoF is the only Pre Hardmode boss that is mandatory to advance in the game
It looks like it would be fun to skip the eoc at first, someday I'll try to do it facing another boss rather than the eoc or king slime
those are NOT "normal pre hardmode shenanegans"
Two are required, since in order for cultists to spawn you need to kill skeletron
@JaroslawDer FOR PHM 1 is required, you can kill skeletron anytime in PHM or HM
