My husband has 13 years experience with underground directional drilling. He just started at a fiber company as the head of their new department doing missle boring. He is on a crew with 5-6 people currently. They are each expected to have 100 ft per person per day so 500-600 ft. They don’t have a tractor or any sort of equipment to help dig so everything is hand dug and the guy giving them to jobs are telling them it has to be no less than 36” deep. He has worked so many jobs in directional drilling and used to get so much footage daily doing directional drilling but he’s finding it impossible to get the footage required doing it by hand. My husband is a pro at hand digging but it seems like digging 36” down by hand with only a crew of 5-6 people and expecting 500-600 ft per day is a huge ask. How are crews typically set up for missle boring? For example does each guy have a specific job they are responsible for like one digging, one guiding the missle etc;?
How many inches do you typically dig down? Is everything done by hand or do yall have an excavator to help? How much footage do you typically get done daily? I’m sorry for so many questions but my husband has been handed a golden opportunity with so many perks that our family needs right now for this company and we really need for this to work out and be successful but the company won’t provide an excavator and my husband is not seeing how the footage can be reached in a timely manner without one. Thank you for any insight you may have!

It's a fun did it for couples of yrs in 2010 but it can be frustrating when you hit a soft spot (loose sand) ware you can go forward or backwards nor pull it back 😊

Missile bore does go unto the larger sizes (4-6" for most french drains)
