In this video we'll be setting up Google Analytics 4 for your WordPress website. We'll be doing this step by step, and I also show you how you can track your submitted contact forms on your website. Its really easy, just follow these steps. And we're gonna start right now!
So if we log into our Google Analytics this is what we see. The property will stop processing data starting the 1st of July 2023. And then this beautiful countdown clock. The first thing we do is actually click on 'Go to setup assistant' over here. I'm gonna click on this blue button 'Get started'.
"This setup will create a property, Copy
the basic settings from your original property and enable the data collection using existing analytics.js and gtag.js. Great. Press 'Create'. It has been created, well done and it also have been connected. Then we click on go to your Google Analytics 4 Property in here. This is your property Google Analytics 4. if you want to see the interface of Google Analytics 4 you can go over here to 'Reports', and it's actually quite different than the Universal Analytics. So yeah it's a little bit of looking and searching where everything is, but you're gonna be fine, trust me. You will keep seeing this red bar over here because of the setup we need to complete right here. What do we need to do is data collection - collect website and app data. If you click on this button over here 'Actions' you can see the 'Manage data streams'. We need to click on this one. And then you can see that no data has been received in the past 48 hours. But if we go over here to 'Reports' if all is good... so you need to visit your own website in an incognito screen or private window. Just click a little bit around, just do something on your website, just click on a few pages over there. And then you will see in Google Analytics 4 that you have a real-time user, one user from the Netherlands! Hey that's me. So now you know that Google Analytics 4 works great. From here you click on here 'Complete setup'. Because now we know everything works. So data collection is okay - it has started but it's not yet in here, but it's okay. If I click on actions and press 'Mark as complete'. "Data is not flowing" well it actually is, but it will update this in the next 48 hours, because it's gonna take a little bit of time. And now you scroll down and we go to the 'Property settings. Now Google Signals is very important if you have Google ads on your website. If you're showing ads or you're advertising with products for your website, then this is very important. If you don't have this, you can just click on 'Mark as complete'. Then we're going to set up 'Conversions'. The conversions could be the contact page or somebody filled in your contact form, those things are really important to measure, or else you don't know if your website really works. So we're gonna click on this arrow 'Actions' you're gonna 'Manage conversions' over there. Standard in here is the 'Purchase'. But I'm not an e-commerce website so what I'm going to do is going to create a new conversion event over there. So let's change this event name to 'ContactForm submission' like this. You can't use any dashes stripes or anything, so just use this. And press save. Then we have created the conversion event ContactFormSubmission. After that you go over here to 'Events' we're gonna create a new event. So create it. Then we click on 'Create' over there. I'm going to give..

I am a little confused regarding this migration. I need help to understand if my mobile apps are using Firebase Analytics, do them too need to migrate to GA4.
Also it will be very kind of you to give me the fundamental difference between Universal Analytics, FireBase Analytics and GA4. To my understanding Universal Analytics is meant of websites and firebase for the mobile apps.

Haha yeah today I noticed it said “this property is not collecting any data, switch to GA4”. So I guess they want us to remove the UA property totally…

I have a question: Will I still be able to modify the setup in the future, like enabling Google Signals or adding new conversions, even after I have marked those steps as complete?

Hi Kevin! Totally depends on how many goals you have. If it’s more than 5, migrate them. But sometimes it’s just best practice to create new ones as you can also then think about the real goals of your site 💭 😀

e.g.: your own company website, the LinkedIn account of your company, the facebook account of your company, etc?
Hi there! Well if you want to track multiple channels that are not your own - social media etc - you would need another tool then Google Analytics. There are companies that actually sell exactly this service in a dashboard, BUt I have never seen it all in Google Analytics combined.
@@WPressDoctor Ah okay! But I do own these social media channels, and I saw some where else that in the same property its possible to put down the links of your LinkedIn and Facebook
I know you own your channels, but integration WITHIN analytics dashboard I have not seen yet. The only thing you can see is if your visitors come via a social media channel. But you can’t see how your visitors move over your social channels inside of Analytics

I did switch to the UA account from the dropdown, like you did in the video.

Hi Angela! Thanks for the sub and like, really appreciate it! Well I talked about these that they are only necessary if you advertise yourself OR if you show ads on your website. If that’s not the case, mark them all as completed.
If you do advertise, then there are more things to setup, but I said in the video that that’s another story. I will cover it when there are enough people reaching out and want to see how that works 😀👍🏻

Hi Julia, that’s also possible but it’s harder to do. Easiest way is to create a thank you page. But if you insist it’s still possible. What contact form are you using?

Hi there! Thanks for the question. It could be that you need to place a new code. You might be using a old UA code that’s not compatible with GA4. Please add a new code for the website “stream”.

If you do not want to automatically add these settings, open the Setup Assistant in the linked UA property.

Hi Ákos! Well if you have did nothing note worthy on your Universal account like tracking conversions or adding goals, you just might want to ignore it. Then it will all go with you and no harm done 😊

Do you have to update the tracking code? In my case that would be in a SharePoint master page which has the old UA code in it. Or is that only if the data stream doesn't pick up any activity?

In the 'Collect website and app data' section, did you input your new GA4 tracking code into your website before clicking around on it on Incognito? (to then see yourself as the user in the report section)
Hi Zach! Thanks for the question. No I did not put in a new code, I used the existing tracking code - see in the beginning there I clicked on that option. So then the old code is now used for GA4 👍🏻😀
Do youtubers have to do this also? People that only have ads on the videos. I think TH-cam analytics is different from google analytics ?

Hi Idir! You should only use here a thank-you page. So when people fill in your form, after submission they will be send to the thank-you url. If they don't get redirected and just see a 'thank you' message, then you can't fill it in as a conversion using this method. So no, don't fill your contact page URL in as a conversion, or else you get a lot 'fake conversions'.

Dear thank you for your video, I have a question, at 0:50 I read "enable data collection using existing analytics.js and gtag.js tag" what does this means? I have installed in past, through google tag manager, the old universal analytic tags and all the related events, does this means that I don't have to touch anything from the tag manager side? I ask this because after following the automatic migration and your suggested steps, I can clearly see live reports updating in a real way, and this happens even if I didn't changed anything from the tags side.. how is this possible? The previous UA had a different ID from the new GA4 but I can see the flow of data(???)
Hi Wassy! Well to put it simple, thats just some pure occult magic from GA... those wicked wizards in there! No that's a joke of course. They implemented some way to use your old gtag and make a connection to the new GA4. So yeah, all should be fine when migrating. However you should check if your conversions all are measured the right way. I think that is the case so you're done 😁
