BMW of North America has extended the warranty on the front grille upper/lower active air flaps for up to 15 years/150,000 miles. It's BMW SIB 01-12-19. This is for G01, G02, G12, G30, and G32 models on certain 2017, 2018, and 2019. Do a search for the bulletin because the production date will matter. The warranty will not cover damage caused by outside influence (Example: If wire harness is damaged from rodents chewing on them or if debris damages that flaps.
Thank you so much bro for this. The dealer obviously wanted to get me for 1500 i dont mind because i know whay car i drive but i am also the type of person who knows about cars and likes to work on them myself
Thank you very much for this. I had the same issue with the open flaps on both upper and lower air flaps of the front grille G30 540i. I replaced both mine upper and lower at separate times. For the upper one, the new flap actuator was at the closed position when I installed it. After that, it got stuck at the open position again, so I thought the lower one could contribute to that and I purchased the lower flap assembly. I ran into the difficulty of getting the old one out due to the middle sensor was in the way. The middle lower sensor was mounted with 3 screws, two screws were on the lower flange of the sensor and the one screw on the top flange which is the blind screw and the only way is drilled out the blind screw nut, but I was afraid of doing that. Instead of doing so, I disassembled the new lower flap assembly and took the actuator (which is very similar to the top one) and then replaced it with the old one. After all of this hard work, both the upper and lower are still in the open position. Any ideas? Do you think I need to use ISTA app to close it? I used the Bimmer Link app to check on the error memory, both error codes 13820B and 13820A reinstated after I cleared them off. Any comment and suggestion will be appreciated.
Its hard to suggest something i have not dealt like that but i think you should not remove the actuator from lower grill coz it comes with flaps already so i presume it should be fitted that way maybe thats the problem you have because you took it out 🤷♂️
Have you a eml ligth on the dash? The upper active gril open and close with the issue on lower active? Or the upper active grill stay open all the time?
No lights on the dash ive noticed when top grill stayed always open specially when weather in spring time still chill they should stay most the time closed specially in the morning before driving
@@arturaslogunovas mine is most of the time open, dtc error in memory but no Eml ligth on dash, im not gone spend money or the grills..Im going to coded to allways stay open..or..cut the flaps...Im living on the warm country....and 95% of all brands dont have active grills.
Do you need to replace upper one as well? I think on my car both of them do not work, I also noticed in one other video that after replacing both, coding with ISTA is needed, but may be only to clear errors is enough? What do you think? Thanks, great job!
I think its not necessary if its in working condition but i think if lower is faulty the top one might not work as well but my advise is to change the top as well because you gonna have good access when bumper is removed otherwise you can access it without removing bumper so save your self extra work and do it all in one go. No coding need it just clear faults after you replaced it 👍
Good video, my lower grill is dead so will be attempting in next couple weeks to replace it myself. Can you tell me if there is anything to look out when putting it back together? Thanks in advance
Thanks 👍 Well be careful dont rush dont use force you dont wanna break things, keep screws in one place and when u out back bumper look for the gaps make sure they are the same, take photo or vide before taking apart so you can see how should look, specialy in headlight area there is a brackets where it sits if is not gonna sit properly you can loose it up just pay attention to detail 😉 good luck 👍
Hi, yes it is motor closing both grills upper and lower. Im not gonna be able to tell you the part number as part is fitted and there is no access to check, but all you need is reg number or vin number then call to bmw dealer and they will supply you with correct part
I initially took my active air flaps off for aesthetic reasons - huge mistake. I got a CEL a few days later, I guess I did it wrong. I was watching TK Garage on how they took off the flaps... Anyways took mine to the dealership to get the WHOLE thing replaced, it was about $1500 with the actuator and the flap replacement. I live in Las Vegas if it makes a difference
Well i dont work in Bmw so i dont know that but if you could ring them they will tell you how much that can cost, maybe you can buy a part and change it your self
I’m getting persistent code 21b045 loss of communication with lower actuator, but my 540i was not fitted with lower blinds? Only top blinds behind kidney grills which are working fine. I assume my actuator motor might be bad?
Hi, so if you getting that code it means you do have lower grill shutters otherwise would not make sense 🤷♂️ if your upper grill shutters closes and opens yes it means they are working but interesting why because in my situation when lower shutters actuator broke uper shutters stopped closing and stayed open all the time until ive fixed it, so what can i say i can see your car so i dont know what exactly is a problem but if you cant delete that fault code it means is permanent and you need to replace lower actuator.
@@arturaslogunovasI’ve validated with BMW in Australia that my car and in fact all G30’s in the Australia market never came with lower radiator blinds, only the air duct. This code happened after I flashed with bootmod3, I suspect they have given me a flash version from the wrong region/country??? Any map I flash from bootmod3 gives me this code. Got their support onto it, but they have no idea 🤷🏻♂️
@@mfactory451 i dont remember now how it was written but it stayed as permanent, couldnt delete also it was only for bottom flap fault in the system but not on the dash

Yes it is, but you cant change just a motor you need change all bottom grill
How similar is this process to a G20 (3 series)?
No idea, ive just changed on my 5 series

Hi there! And thx😎
I gonna say no just because i dont have time 😊too busy with my stuff
hey Arhur, where did you get the parts? Can you please provide me with link? How much was it?
Hi, parts ive got from my bmw local dealer so my advise would be to contact yr local dealer
Can i clear the code on corner active grill and not change the grill
If your grill is faulty the fault stays permanently on the system so you cannot delete that fault
If you’re tuned you can customize your map to not show the code
