Looking at this encounter between these three wonderful Leopards has shown one thing I missed until now. That thing is just how influential Tingana's genes have been in determining the physical appearance of his Cubs. Shadow's Cub looks a lot like Tlalamba. Or should I say Tlalamba looks a lot like Shadow's Cub ( can't remember the spot pattern for each though. have to look that up. that's if Shadow's Cubs spot pattern was written up about) even down to the long tail....... 💚🐆🐆🐆🐾
I grew up hearing that Big cats will kill their own young. So far on your channel, I have seen quite a few leopard dad’s not being bothered by cubs. How often does this happen?
Over the last 15 years I've never heard the guides about male leopards in this area who killed their own cubs. Yes, leopards can kill cubs if they are not theirs., but there are always exceptions. It can happen during territorial fights or over food. A new male who wants to mate with a leopard mom is a big risk for her cub(s). The male lions in the Sabi Sands are good dads. Even better than leopards. But some lions (females too) kill all the cubs during a pride take-over, or a territorial fight. And some lions will accept the new cubs. You'll never know what will happen. They don't read the books. ;)
I don't know. Shadow and her female cub disappeared. Same as Karula and later Xongile. Who was seen close to the KNP border at Nkorho. I always hope the youngsters survived and found a new territory in the KNP. But we'll never know for sure.
I see this is footage of about 3 years ago. Thus roughly 2 years before the return of Hosana. Would have like to see Hosana (I assume the leading leopard on Djuma by now) back with dad on Djuma.

But I've also heard some people say they'd rather believe they are out there somewhere and someday they will show up again. They hold out hope. I understand that too, but at the time of so many disappearances, it's hard not to think the worst.. .💧

Hosana is not on Djuma. He's a dominant male on Singita. Will he ever return? Who knows. ;)

NotBarbara was the name a SafariLive guide gave her for fun. The local rangers give leopard cubs official names when they are about one year old.
What happened to Shadow?
Nobody knows. She and her cub NotBarbara disappeared in February 2018. Maybe they fled into Kruger for a big male like Hukumuri.
