- I am starting 2023 off with a kitchen declutter. I had a couple of kitchen cupboards and kitchen drawers that need some work so this week I’m going to declutter, clean and organize those areas.
I was really lacking any kind of motivation to get this weeks project done! It took me so much more time that it should have. Decluttering can be very hard and challenging. I give myself grace when I freeze up and don’t know what to do and I continually tell myself it’s just one drawer at a time, one shelf at a time.
Once the job is done it feels great. But getting to the finish line can be hard!

Hi. Goodwill sells knife blocks all the time. Old knives and all. One man's trash can be another man's treasure! I am glad I am not the only one that gets overwhelmed!

I’m so glad to hear that you have times when you aren’t in the mood to declutter, too! I just have to be in the right mood to do it, or everything will go right back in the cabinet without getting rid of anything!

The knifes can be taken to a scrap metal place to be recycled. If u don't have one you can throw them but they recommend wrapping them up in newspaper and taping the blade in a cardboard sleeve where it won't slide out . But as u have the block u could tape them into the block put it. In a box and tape it shut I'd mark the box with sharp or something. But then no one can get hurt and they aren't collecting dust
Hi Jodi, I had old knives. I wrapped them in layers of paper towels, put them in a cardboard box and threw them away in a trash bag. I felt since they were all wrapped up and boxed, they hopefully, would not hurt anyone. I am working on little declutters in each room. I have a cabinet to go through in my kitchen next.

Everytime I declutter a cabinet, I take a small sticker note and write the date that I did the de-cluttering. Helps me year after year.

My decluttering journey has come to a halt. I've decluttered a ton of stuff over the last 6 years or so, but still feel like I have too much stuff. I'm getting motivated to go through my house konmari-style over the next few months. It's going to be tough because I'll be making decisions on things with sentimental value, things I really thought I'd use one day, things me or my loved ones spent money on. I'm expecting a lot of tough emotions to surface, but at the end of it, my house will flow with a settled, clear-headed, relaxed vibe. It will function easily at all times, saving me from stress, frustration, and anxiety. I will need lots of decluttering motivation, so I'm happy be a new subscriber. 😊
Sounds like you have a great plan in place. Yes it will be tough! But so worth it ❤️
Hi Jodi. I love my tuesday evenings because I LOVE to watch your new video and I rewatch it always later in the week or rewatch an older video. In the older ones you welcomed us with a short closeup. Will you do it again in the future? I really miss that „one to one“ communication. That is what it feels to me 😅 I don’t care if it is with weird light without make up in the pick up line at school or something like that. Please donate your old knives. When I moved to my 1st apartment, I got my knife set from Goodwill. I used my dad’s whetstone (aka sharpening stone), and it was as good as new.

Hi Jodi. Thank you for another video and for keeping it real. I find it easier to declutter areas that already have a designated purpose. When the area has no purpose its overwhelming because you want to make sure you utilize it the best way possible. Personal items are always left for last because we are attached to them the most. Thank you for starting this channel to give me the accountability to start my decluttering journey. Loved seeing Tom going through the cabinet...lol

I wrap the knives in a piece of corrugated cardboard and tape it all up with duct tape. Then I label it as knives. You can then donate or throw away.

My son didn't want to part with anything for years (I started decluttering in 07 or 08), and over the years I've tried different systems and such, some working better than others. I know a few years before 2020 I had tried Konmari, and that was really overwhelming for all of us.... but I remember in the book area (which engulfed the entire living room and part of a bedroom) I went through first. If I wanted to keep it, it stayed. If he wanted to keep it, it also stayed, and then his younger sister (who while young has always been better at this than either of us) also got to keep what she wanted. And the rest went..... and he was okay with that for a change. Then when the shutdown happened and all, I struggled to let anything go, but in the fall I found Dana K White. Her system has worked really well for me, and I did the minimalism game in January which got me in the habit of doing something. Since then he has actually used the donate box on multiple occasions. At first I questioned if he had just set stuff down beside the door, and he was like isnt that where donations go? Lol. Yes dear it is. 😁 Since then he has let me help dig out his room a bit. He doesn't get rid of as much as I would, but he makes a dent and is getting rid of lots of trash and finding homes for things. 10 minutes at a time is about the max, but it'll be so much better by the time he moves out. Whenever that is.
Jodi, a couple days ago I had queued this video up to watch, got interrupted so I paused it. Then the day got away from me. I woke up in the middle of the night hearing your voice saying HELLO HELLO HELLO! Scared me half to death! 😂

Been decluttering my kitchen since the end of December! A drawer or cabinet at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. I took down all the decor on top of my cabinets that had been there since we moved in collecting dust and grease, cleaned it and took it to donation. This year in going to get through my entire house!

I donated my knife set in the wooden black I just put tape over the top of them so they wouldn’t fall out great job today decluttering look forward to the next one take care and God bless

You knocked that out even with the lack of motivation!!! I decluttered old knives last year and dad was decluttering his closet. He put his clothes that weren't in good condition into a box to throw away... I just tucked the knives inside and taped up the box. I don't know if that was "ok", but it seemed like the safest way to go.

If you want too keep the other knives, you can take them and have them professionally sharpened. My son, who is a culinary student, does ours and it's saved a few that we were ready to get rid of.

I will agree as well. I have seen them at the Goodwill. Often a piece of bent cardboard over the sharp end and taped. I think people getting secondhand knives just assume that they will have to sharpen them. I am sure families just starting out or college kids would be thrilled to have them for their kitchens.

Hi Jodi, I have seen a few of your videos before and think you are a hoot. I have trouble getting started on things like decluttering and washing floors forget it but once I start don't stop me. I get in a groove. I hate when I have to stop because getting the motivation back the next day is really hard. I have to declutter a closet in my spare bedroom. So just getting everything in it out of the thing and then going through it all. Wish me luck! Your doggy is just adorable.

Hey Jodie! Fun video today. I had the same issue when I decluttered my sharp knives. I wanted to donate them to goodwill but was stressing over what if someone might get cut. I spent more time worrying about that than it took to clean out the danged drawer LOL Anyway I just wrapped them in newspaper, taped it all up with packing tape no less, then took a permanent marker and wrote sharp knives really big on it. My husband was looking at me like I was insane. I made a huge deal out of the whole thing! LOLOLOLOL Love the Clark and Tom sighting, they are so cute.

My project for January is contuining this declutter challenege. It's declutter one thing on Jan. 1st, 2 on Jan 2nd, ect until the end of January. I'm on day 11 getting rid of 11 things today!

Hi Jodi! If you would like to storage the cabinets where you have your board games better so that you have more space for new games! In Amazon they sell these plastic bags that look like a ziplock but more stronger. I have seen other TH-camr uses them and help them storage there game boards that way you can have more board games in the future to enjoy also with your grandkids! Gardening was what I was thinking. Or pumpkin carving for adults? There's a professional sharpener who comes to my local garden center weekly who sharpens everything from knives to lawn mower blades so I bet a professional like that could get them sharpened

I get it all cleaned and then it gets cluttered again. I need to look at what doesn't have a home and find a home. Hey Jodi, your video did inspire me to start my decluttering as well. I went thru my entire house top to bottom like gangbusters last year. I, too, feel not as motivated as I was that time around. Hopefully I can get up and start over again. There certainly isn't as much to go thru so it should be easier, I just need to give myself a pep talk. Great video!
Well this week my daughter and I organized the closet under our stairs and it looks gorgeous. We also decluttered my sewing and craft room and so glad we got it done and lots of stuff to donate. This weekend we are tackling the whole kitchen and the pantry cupboard. I can’t wait to see the end result. Thanks for all your motivation to get my home decluttered and almost everything has a place now.

I have realized, after ruining several knives, that hand washing is best for them in my household. They didn't rust or make the blades wobble after going through the drying cycle or cut /knick the dishwasher rungs.
Our ACE hardware store sharpens knives, but if you donate them the person buying them can figure that out. I gave old knives to the local women's shelter thrift store.

Giving my apartment a good clean yesterday I De cluttered a few ornaments if I don't re use them in 6 months they are gone, and also some Xmas decorations that are going, all to charity shops. 💐

Love watching your videos. I am going to declutter my kitchen. I saw a post. A family lost everything in a house fire. I plan on giving them my extra dishes. I have an island in my kitchen. But under it has no shelves. Just a open area with doors. I really do want to get rid of all the things we don't use or need. Love your girls reaction to the new knife drawer. LOL. We took advantage of the almost 60 degree weather to take our Christmas lights and decorations off of our house. Not really what I wanted to do as soon as I got home from work but now I’m glad it’s done. I usually procrastinate something I don’t want to do but once I start, I’m fine.
