    The poison spyder tire carrier of the same design would have been a better choice. That being said, these types of tire carriers aren't really designed for DD jeeps... As y'all have found out. It's designed for maximum departure angle. I almost bought one of these (toss up between poison spyder and Gen Right), but thinking on it, those pins would have been a real hassle on a DD vehicle. Still, good vid! I hope it helps others with their decision for a tire carrier!

    I looked at this one but went with the OR fab tire carrier. I liked the fact that I can carry 2 geri cans of gas on it with my over sized tire. It to mounts to the tub as the DV8 does....and yes the rear of the jeep i really find inconvenient to access. But it LOOKS SO NICE and is functional . No issue with the tire and upper rear window on the OR fab. It came with a mounting bar to go inside the tub at the landing side of the carrier with shims to go between the layers of aluminum in the tub. And i kept my stock steel hard rock rear bumper on the jeep. No aftermarket bumper

  • @stuntx54
    @stuntx54 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not trying to cause issue but most of these issues are install issues not with dv8 looking at the alignment of your driverside mount its clearly crooked 3:10 which explains why the bottom mount wont align 8:35 if you widen the openings a touch you wont have to shave anything down and can repaint dont open to wide or it will rattle like mine did i had to close the openings slightly to stop it. And im pretty sure aluminum spindle mount can be flipped to the underside of the bracket which will lower your tire and stop your glass from hitting

    • @Garagecouple
      @Garagecouple  ปีที่แล้ว

      Literally it would not align even while off the vehicle. They sent a second bracket and it was also misaligned off the vehicle.

    I have one of these tire carriers, I didn't have any of the issues you are mentioning. I got a back plate, my glass doesn't hit the tire 35x12.5, I didn't have to file anything. I've had mine for a couple years now. The coating is not great, I do have some surface rust. My biggest issue is replacing tail lights. the way the JK tail lights go on you can't get it on and off. I had to reach up from under the jeep and replace the bulb with one hand.

    • @Garagecouple

    About to install mine on my 13’ 2 door Jk that’s rocking the Bestop hybrid soft top. DV8 directions and other install videos made it very hint hint known to install hinge side/carrier, AND tire to make the actual install point to the license plate side so hopefully DV8 heard y’all’s and others complaints (being your video was a year ago from this comment and maybe my fastback soft top will be a cherry on the icing on open carrier with opening rear window for my install. • @ridiculex834

    I have the DV8 TC. I share your frustration but I did get all the parts. My trick to close the carrier is that I push it in and then bump it with my shoulder and butt lightly and the pins align a lot easier. I also made a braided wire loop to secure the pins. I forgot them one day and they fell off the Jeep. One end of the wire attaches to the carrier and the other holds to the pins. When I take the pins out they hang off the carrier.

    I had the same issue with the driver side plate being warped. So.. I drilled the holes in a position that would compensate as if the plate was flat. Then, when I tightened the bolts the force straightens the plate out perfectly. However, I was also concerned that the force would cause stress on the body of the jeep and cause it to bend, but honestly the steel on the body is surprisingly strong and I don’t anticipate that as an issue at all after having it installed.
    The catch! So unfortunately when they welded the two brackets onto the driver side plate.. of course they did it with the plate already warped 🤦‍♂️. So.. when the plate was forced straight now the brackets are angled and the carrier doesn’t close! So I had to bend them and now only the top pin goes through which honestly I can live with.. I don’t see the purpose for two pins anyways.
    Cheers!

    Hi guys. As you know my wife has the dv8 tire carrier. It was a pain to install and is very tight to try to close the carrier and put the 2 pins in. I agree I love the look of it. Look into the tire size capacity. I'm pretty sure dv8 claims that that carrier will hold a 42 inch tire which I thought was pretty impressive. Especially for those people who may have a 42. Which would be an option for those people looking for a carrier to hold that monster tire. Lol. Love your videos guys. Keep it up.

    It seems like you didn't put the cam bolt on? it goes on the replacement bracket top right, 3rd closest before the bolt. So it would be cam bolt, then the bolt. This raises and lowers the carrier

    • @Garagecouple
      @Garagecouple  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It did not come with a cam bolt, and the instructions do not mention a cam bolt either. But others have commented it needs a cam bolt, but regardless, the problem with the carrier would not be fixed with the cam bolt. 😂😂😂😂 yeah.... no two vehicles coming off the assembly line are 100% the same. Add in China made jeep parts like DV8 and you will have to make small modifications. Shoot even with American made parts there is still some finess needed to get them to fit. Doesn't matter if it's jeep parts or hot rods or what ever.

    Definetly should made the review after a wheeling trip and then show us what you think about....cause daily use i don’t think applies to an overall review of the product.

    DV8 SUCKS!! worst Jeep mod by far. I’m so pissed I’m stuck with this piece of shit because of how much this cost.
