    I'd like to share this story about Richard. In September 1982, I was injured in a motorcycle accident breaking my neck. I was admitted to the VA Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass spending the next 3 months in traction. In October of 82', Richard came to that hospital to visit a friend of his, who was also a quadriplegic. I believe his friend was associated with the circus - I can't recall his name but I do remember he looked like the singer Paul Simon. Anyway, my sister had ran into Richard in the hallway and told me about the encounter. She asked if she should go find him and see if he could stop in for moment. My 2 aunts were in the room and hoped to meet Richard, so my sister and cousin both went to find him. I was absolutely shocked when they returned with Richard in tow. My two aunts were all over him - kissing, hugging, and complimenting him on his newborn triplets. Richard then came to my bedside, introduced himself, and enquired about my situation. He couldn't have been more kind, compassionate, and encouraging in his words. I then asked for his autograph and he obliged - signing my guest book.
    Three days later, I started moving my toes and, within a week, had traces of muscle movement throughout my paralyzed body. Nine months later I walked out of that hospital under my own power. The doctors were so astounded at my recovery that it made the Medical Journal, and they even used the word "miracle" to describe it.
    I just wanted to make it known that Richard came to my room out of concern and love for a fellow human being. There were no cameras, no reporters, no publicists, no Make-a-Wish, and no pats on the back. Just one person offering hope to another person in need of that hope. The power of celebrity is an amazing thing and I can personally attest to its healing effects.
    God bless you, Richard, and thank you for coming to my bedside 40 years ago.

    The incomparable way Richard played John Boy always made me wish that I knew John Boy in real life. He is the son, brother, friend, lover I believe many of us would love to have had. He seemed to just make the world a better place to live in. He was the underdog I always rooted for, he was the humble hero I admired. I am so happy to see Richard continue his illustrious career. ❤❤❤

      I felt and feel exactly this way about John Boy and Richard Thomas. He was such a quiet, settled, and positive presence. I don't know how he got to be so muture at such a young age. I admire John Boy and Richard Thomas immensely. He helped me prepare for my adulthood in ways I never realized until I was out on my own. I had a "John Boy" persona I used when I had to deal with stressful times (kind of a WWJBD thing). Staying calm like John Boy helped me settle myself in all kinds of new "adult" situations. I owe Richard Thomas and Earl Hamner a lot of credit for helping me become a responsible young adult. The Waltons was packed with positive messages and they really helped me grow up to feel positive in general, and to help people when I could. Judy and Mary Ellen were super positive and strong influences, as well. Thank you all for the positive influences you have had on my life Peace.

    Thank you so much for this conversation with Richard Thomas. I watched the series when it began and I would recopy my English composition on Thursday night to turn in on Friday. I would do this as John-Boy would be writing in his journal. While I am not a writer today, I have written little stories about my family because my daughter said she wanted them. In the episode "The Literary Man" he told John-Boy to write the little stories because the sum of them could be the big story. So, I am doing that. I challenge everyone to write down their memories of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Write about special occasions and ordinary days; they are all important because someone will want to have them after you're gone. So, that's your homework, Judy and Richard! Start today

Lol. I just couldn't stop watching. How does a show like that capture a child of the 70's who is enthralled with the music of the time, Led Zeppelin, black sabbath and the like. I was absolutely committed to the party scene. But yet, if the Waltons were on, I was watching! I'm so grateful to you for the sacrifice y'all made as kids ,to put this show out there. • @brbrknndy
    @brbrknndy ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I saw some of the gag reels put out by someone on UTUBE. I don't remember who.
    1. John Boy asking JW ---------about Mary Ellen. I'll let you fill in the blank.
    2. There was one with Will Geer walking naked into a sauna (I think that is what it was).
    3. The family listening to the radio together and news of an impending weather event leading Olivia Walton stating "It's a good thing we're baptists" and something to the effect of that meaning they were going to be spared. Like Michael Learned doing a satire on Ma Walton instead of being in character of playing her.
    None of the above seemed appropriate with the image of the show. The description stated that these were clips from the past shows. I thought I was going nuts.
    Glad Richard Thomas clarified that there were gag reels created. Now I know where these came from.

    This is another great segment with Richard Thomas, but it also makes us realize how the actors were perfectly cast to play their characters to perfection and will always be remembered for The Waltons. As a viewer, and a fan, of the The Waltons, I feel so blessed to have been there from the very beginning with The Homecoming and continuing through to the final episode. I grew up with The Waltons; my son grew up with The Waltons; and I have a baby granddaughter and a new grandson on the way that will also undoubtedly grow up The Waltons. Richard Thomas is such a humble, likable and personable man. Such a fascinating human being!! I love the poignant scenes between John Boy and Mary Ellen, such as The Minstrel when Mary Ellen ran away and John Boy went to find her; The Awakening, when John Boy gave the beautiful yellow roses to Mary Ellen when she was upset on Grandma’s birthday, and in The Nurse, when John Boy helped tutor Mary Ellen in chemistry and biology when she was crying because she couldn’t do her nursing exam. He was such a good brother to her, and all the children, a great big brother who would always help and be there to give advice and support. I always wished I had a big brother ❤️
