What a delight! I remember Dino, Desi, and Billy on Ed Sullivan when I was a teen. I had to look up Charles Durning and I cried. My father was a D-Day veteran and was on a ship during that time. Luckily, he wasn’t wounded. But he did serve on Omaha Beach, southern invasion of France, Africa, Italy, and in the Pacific on Pearl Harbor. He spoke about it to groups too. Thanks for sharing, Bruce!! I would have never known.
What an absolute joy to watch this segment. Fun fact, when I watched the Shivaree episode for the first time, I thought it would be about the Hindu god Lord Shiva😂. That was quite a Part 2! So many fascinating areas covered. I had forgotten all about his role in "Mame" & I especially loved hearing the stories of that era. Had he made it to California a few years earlier it may have been Dino, Desi, & Bruce as the singing trio. But my favorite was to see how proud he was of his daughter. Talent runs in the family and something tells me she will be just fine. Although I know the fatherly impulse to help will always be present.

How wonderful to see. Bruce again! I was grown when The Walton’s began airing and have loved it since. I am still an avid fan, watching each weekday on MeTV. I grew up and live again in the New York Metropolitan area so a Shivaree was unknown in this area of many immigrants. When I married, 48 years ago, I moved to a very small, agrarian community in North Florida & wondered if that would take place, however, my then husband had not lived in the area, his parents were natives. I will be looking for Bruce’s work on different platforms. What a Grand 2 episodes! Thanks, again.

I really enjoyed this interview with Bruce Davison! Thanks Judy and Bruce! On a side note, my husband Lee toured with the show Mame, with Celeste Holm and Loretta Switt, in '67 - '68. He was a child actor whose stage name was Lee Franklin. Sadly, Lee passed away in 2006.

In 1964, my aunt and uncle were given a shivered (spelling) by the neiborhood. Aunt rode in a wheel barrow pushed by my Uncle. It was tradition in south central IL.

When I was a child, I heard some men talk about the shivaree here in Tennessee. But I never knew of anyone who had one. My youngest sister and her husband got married at camp. His buddies tied him to the diving board and left him. This was before the wedding. I think Richard did "Streamers" at the same time he was doing 'The Return' episode of "The Waltons". I believe he worked day and night. Unless he did two Mondays like the first reunion special in the 90s. Mary Beth was in a child actor group for awhile with Tabitha from "Bewitched". I think Hume Cronyn won an Emmy for the "...White Dog...", a Hallmark movie. Judy, I did get to see the one that you did about Ralph Waite and wrote something in it. What about your friend in 'The Wing Walker'? She was at the 40th. Have you interviewed her?
Not sure exactly when Streamers was. I did respond to your question on Ralph. Lee Purcell shared a video message when I covered The Wingwalker. I may see about having her come guest for a chat.

Great interview--both parts. I was really happy to hear a nod to Paul Petersen and Tony Dow who were important to A MINOR CONSIDERATION. Paul and Rana are great people, and I just know all of you (former child actors) will pick up the torch down the road. I know Alison certainly is playing a major role in this important organization.

Bruce sure has been a busy guy, glad he's now part of your archives. Always interesting coming to your channel, I don't know weather I'm a fan of a follower perhaps both. I grew up in the same years as you I know how difficult those rabidly changing years were, I'm sure you had your challenges in the public eye, especially at school, with so many kids knowing who you were. Congratulations on coming out one the other side unscathed. I had a classmate named Debbie Carrington in school here in San Jose, she was a dwarf she did a few movies. Debbie was in Total Recall, and played some Ewok roles. She's passed, was born in 1959. On a happier note yes we do have a whole lotta good years ahead. Fun fact , a child born today has a life expectancy of 120 years, yep it's true. I read it in National Geographic over twenty years ago ! Have a great day and a long life. : )

Bruce, thanks for all your stories, and also all your work over the years. I'll have to catch up on some of his work that I've missed. Again, as someone who worked in theatre on the crew, I can tell, Bruce is one of those folks that makes a show fun and compelling to watch and hear 50, 60 or more times.
That was so nice to hear all about Bruce. I had no idea about how much he has done. His story of Lucy was priceless. Loved it! And Mr. Sinatra. Wow! That would be a memory to never forget. Thank you for the conversation.
This segment was so much fun and interesting to watch. I especially found your point about that the contradictions in the characters like when John Boy seemed so pleased with the idea of the shivaree interesting. This is what made the Waltons so relatable,in the sense that the characters were only human after all,and to me it is why the series was not too sugar sweet. I also remember when John Boy also showed his less than perfect side,in The Burn Out episode. To me,again,this showed the viewer that The Waltons were representing real people in real situations,and sometimes humans can make errors. What was it that Earl Hamner once said,to er was to be human? and this is why we relate to the Waltons,still to this day. What do you think,Judy?
I love your take on it and I agree. People aren’t perfect, most of us try to do our best, but we still make mistakes, errors in judgment etc. And I think The Waltons reflected this.
This speaks to the quality of the actor, but the episode Mr. Davison was in was always tense one for me to watch because of all his character Bob had to endure and how angry it made him and tenseness and difficulty it caused between him and his bride Olivia. Kudos
Judy I think that was one of the best interviews that you have done so far. Bruce was wonderful as a guest. Well I don't know about shivarees still being popular but one trend that I could do without is the overpriced weddings. A friend of mine took me aside and said "You know Bill I spent $40,000 on my daughter's wedding and the marriage didn't last a year." That's sort of like betting the ranch on a three legged horse. My youngest gets married this weekend on a farm and the kids have done most of the planning and payments themselves with a contribution from both sets of parents. But they are doing it outside in a farm field. But i do have a surprise for them, Evidently the surgery on my lung has restarted something as I spent the last week or so shopping for a suit, going out to eat, and spending time out at the farm without needing the wheel chair or any oxygen tanks, only my pocket inhaler, The kids have been trying to set up the wedding to make it easier for me to get around, even borrowing a golf cart. But I may get to surprise them on Saturday by walking her down the aisle and even dancing with her.
So interesting that he worked with Tony Dow, and so cool that you did theater together Judy. I still watch Leave it To Beaver!! Great show!! Love Tony!!❤️ And Lucy!!! How incredible that he got to work with her, what an amazing experience. It’s awesome that he got to meet Frank Sinatra!! What a legendary iconic talent!!❤️

Thanks for posting Judy. I was 11 when this episode aired, had no Idea what a shivaree was and remember watching it with my Mom when she explained the tradition and that she and my father were "shivareed" after their wedding in the late 1950's.
I wish all in theater arts, creating for stage or screen, including through technical services, could know they are touching people in “basic, human” and lasting ways! These gifts also reach people in moments and periods of isolation and vulnerability. This conversation is so moving and appreciated. I love hearing the desires expressed to provide these enriching connections to audiences ~ and to one’s own children and colleagues. An Arthur Miller comment I most remember (I think in an interview on PBS with Charlie Rose) is that writers had to finally overcome their delusion that their writing would change the world. I think he’s wrong. All of these arts do change the world, often vitally. (Though to expect that may be a hindrance to imaginative flow.) Thank you both so much ~ for caring and for doing the work to connect us. You help us feel our value and move us toward worlds of possibility!
You must have enjoyed doing theatre as a youth, Judy. I would have loved it if I was not so terrified of a stranger audience! But I would practice play-acting regularly in my bedroom and then make tickets for my family to attend. I didn't charge for the performance, but in retrospect should have. 🤣🤣🤣

Judy, his stories on Lucy were exactly what I've read about. I've been a HUGE fan of her my entire life. I love Lucy is still something that cheers me up. But, I know that Desi hurt her to the core and she never recovered from it. That was made clear in the books I read about her. Now I do have one question. I love Tony Dow and still grieve his loss. He even became a woodworker before he died. Something I cherish since I build furniture. So I connect with him. Since you worked with him, can you think about some stories about him and share them. I'll take an ask Judy or a reply. Either way, your time is valuable and I love what you are doing. You are a great human being for doing this and I never take you for granted. Cheers! p.s. Tony did sculpting in various materials - wood and bronze, I think. He had this HUGE dog. I can’t recall the breed, but long coat that was almost ringlets. Enjoy your vacation.

A little FU w Charles Durning. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetry. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also survive Malmedy.

I really enjoyed this interview! I especially enjoyed the bit at the end about our legacies. I'm not sure why, but it reminded me of something I came across online asking who I would want to narrate my life story if Morgan Freeman wasn't available. My answer was Harpo Marx.

Great interview--both parts. I was really happy to hear a nod to Paul Petersen and Tony Dow who were important to A MINOR CONSIDERATION. Paul and Rana are great people, and I just know all of you (former child actors) will pick up the torch down the road. I know Alison certainly is playing a major role in this important organization.
Yes - they have done great work to work to improve the path for child actors. We were very fortunate to come through without too many scars.

It brings such joy to see you guys get together sharing memories and talking shop. thanks for letting us be a butterfly on your wall, sounds better than a fly. Bruce sure has been a busy guy, glad he's now part of your archives. Always interesting coming to your channel, I don't know weather I'm a fan of a follower perhaps both. I grew up in the same years as you I know how difficult those rabidly changing years were, I'm sure you had your challenges in the public eye, especially at school, with so many kids knowing who you were. Congratulations on coming out one the other side unscathed. I had a classmate named Debbie Carrington in school here in San Jose, she was a dwarf she did a few movies. Debbie was in Total Recall, and played some Ewok roles. She's passed, was born in 1959. On a happier note yes we do have a whole lotta good years ahead. Fun fact , a child born today has a life expectancy of 120 years, yep it's true. I read it in National Geographic over twenty years ago ! Have a great day and a long life. : )

Bruce, thanks for all your stories, and also all your work over the years. I'll have to catch up on some of his work that I've missed. Again, as someone who worked in theatre on the crew, I can tell, Bruce is one of those folks that makes a show fun and compelling to watch and hear 50, 60 or more times.
His work is always so good. 🥰

This segment was so much fun and interesting to watch. I especially found your point about that the contradictions in the characters like when John Boy seemed so pleased with the idea of the shivaree interesting. This is what made the Waltons so relatable,in the sense that the characters were only human after all,and to me it is why the series was not too sugar sweet. I also remember when John Boy also showed his less than perfect side,in The Burn Out episode. To me,again,this showed the viewer that The Waltons were representing real people in real situations,and sometimes humans can make errors. What was it that Earl Hamner once said,to er was to be human? and this is why we relate to the Waltons,still to this day. What do you think,Judy?
I love your take on it and I agree. People aren’t perfect, most of us try to do our best, but we still make mistakes, errors in judgment etc. And I think The Waltons reflected this.

This speaks to the quality of the actor, but the episode Mr. Davison was in was always tense one for me to watch because of all his character Bob had to endure and how angry it made him and tenseness and difficulty it caused between him and his bride Olivia. Kudos
So true. A good actor can make you believe their character even when it’s not like the person really is.
Judy I think that was one of the best interviews that you have done so far. Bruce was wonderful as a guest. Well I don't know about shivarees still being popular but one trend that I could do without is the overpriced weddings. A friend of mine took me aside and said "You know Bill I spent $40,000 on my daughter's wedding and the marriage didn't last a year." That's sort of like betting the ranch on a three legged horse.
My youngest gets married this weekend on a farm and the kids have done most of the planning and payments themselves with a contribution from both sets of parents. But they are doing it outside in a farm field.
But i do have a surprise for them, Evidently the surgery on my lung has restarted something as I spent the last week or so shopping for a suit, going out to eat, and spending time out at the farm without needing the wheel chair or any oxygen tanks, only my pocket inhaler, The kids have been trying to set up the wedding to make it easier for me to get around, even borrowing a golf cart. But I may get to surprise them on Saturday by walking her down the aisle and even dancing with her.
That is so exciting that you are doing better and will be able to walk your daughter down the aisle! So happy for you all. Enjoy!!!

Thanks for posting Judy. I was 11 when this episode aired, had no Idea what a shivaree was and remember watching it with my Mom when she explained the tradition and that she and my father were "shivareed" after their wedding in the late 1950's.
Oh wow - how did they feel about the shivaree they had? Was it a fun experience for them?

An Arthur Miller comment I most remember (I think in an interview on PBS with Charlie Rose) is that writers had to finally overcome their delusion that their writing would change the world. I think he’s wrong. All of these arts do change the world, often vitally. (Though to expect that may be a hindrance to imaginative flow.)

You must have enjoyed doing theatre as a youth, Judy. I would have loved it if I was not so terrified of a stranger audience! But I would practice play-acting regularly in my bedroom and then make tickets for my family to attend. I didn't charge for the performance, but in retrospect should have. 🤣🤣🤣

Judy, his stories on Lucy were exactly what I've read about. I've been a HUGE fan of her my entire life. I love Lucy is still something that cheers me up. But, I know that Desi hurt her to the core and she never recovered from it. That was made clear in the books I read about her.
Now I do have one question. I love Tony Dow and still grieve his loss. He even became a woodworker before he died. Something I cherish since I build furniture. So I connect with him. Since you worked with him, can you think about some stories about him and share them. I'll take an ask Judy or a reply.
Either way, your time is valuable and I love what you are doing. You are a great human being for doing this and I never take you for granted. Cheers!

Tony did sculpting in various materials - wood and bronze, I think. He had this HUGE dog. I can’t recall the breed, but long coat that was almost ringlets. Enjoy your vacation.
