For all of those interested in the deck, there is a great learning moment at 1:17:27. This is why you need to always keep phantasmagorian in the deck. Rather than cutting phantasmagorian every game, (I think) the best cut would be either a Balustrade Spy or Undercity Informer, as going to seven copies in order to eliminate the risk of losing a game like that because you draw a combo piece you need in the graveyard. Also, because there are so many balustrade spies and undercity informers in the deck the cost of making it a little less likely to find a balustrade spy or undercity informer is far outweighed by the consistency that phantasmagorian gives the deck.
This is actually fairly similar to how storm will cut some of it’s bears and rituals in some match ups but never going to zero past in flames, as it looks to play a grind-ier game against some decks and it will need only one PIF in those games (which it’s more likely to find as it will usually see more cards before going off). This oops all spells deck always wants a spy or informer in it’s opening hand and additional copies draw tend to become useless; on the other hand, phantasmagorian (while always useless in hand) increases your win rate when you have combo pieces in your hand that you want in the graveyard, even making a win possible where it would not be otherwise.
To add to this, given that we're not in a "we lose next turn" spot, remember that just because Sword of the Meek usually comes back from the graveyard, doesn't mean it can't just be cast from our hand. We can put the sword into play, and Spy/Informer the next turn. Also saves life since we can let out 3rd land ETB tapped.
why didn’t he cast sword of the meek for christ sake....
Playing the sword and passing would give the opponent the opportunity to untap with three mana (four, if they play a land), which is risky given the opponent is playing control. While playing the sword and passing is the best play in that situation, knowing to keep phantasmagorian in the deck is more important.
That's why I said "To add to this..."
You're 100% correct about keeping in Phanta. I'm just pointing out that remembering you can actually pay mana for that "free' spell is a line that is all too often overlooked, even by the best players.
First Tron, now Oops all spells?!?!
Guys I think this year really got to Reid.
Reid, I just want to say I think you are a nice young man and I like your content.
Holy crap, thanks Aunt May!
ErroneousClique No, that’s Scott Neusen
Reid, "I" "just" "want" to "say" "I" "think" you are a "nice" "young" "man" and "I" "like" your "content."
Ha, gayyyyyyy
Oops, all "Oops, all "Oops, all spells!"!"!
I'm down for this. Especially if it's Reid playing it.
This man played legacy elves for the longest time. Not toooooo far out of character
loving this Oops, All "Oops All Spells" Videos trend
A note about match 2 g3 v red prowess: although we've moved away from surgical, you could get wrecked by it if in the 75. Therefore it's best to cast spy with a green up and if they do have surgical the green can shuffle in the target so you don't get all your chills or vines exiled to the surgical via memory's journey
@1:20:06 You can just discard your three cards in response to the trigger of Narcomoeba to return Phantasmagorian. This way you have all swords in your graveyard before Narcomoeba enters the battlefield. That should win you the game on the spot...
@Aladdin Sane yeah, that's the line I saw. Opponent has borrower, but probably wouldn't have known how key it was to bounce the random sword.
36:55 Why not mill the cryptic when the opponent puts it on top? Thats an old trick from my Lantern Control days
he comments on the fact that was a misplay he made, the Duke is always learning :)
This
It's the first modern deck I can afford! :D
1:08:49 why not simian out the prism? one of the 12 untapped lands meant turn 2 kill(+ however many simians there are, don't remember, and worst case scenario we can play out another pentad)
39:55 Instead of conceding, couldn't you play Pentad Prism sunbursting for 2, cast Narcomoeba, get your Swords of the Meek back, get back and play Salvage Titan, and get all of your Vengevines back? I don't recall whether they're still holding up a Remand at this point.
Here for the people crying about "oops all spells" content. But really though, you are awesome, Reid.
It's getting ridiculous. The deck is really cool
The fact that Oops All Spells is a légal and viable deck in Modern and Pioneer is great and the Legacy version just got better!
Me: Stares blankly at person in comments saying they are here for all the people crying about all the oops decks in the comments.
Me: Sees 3 complaints in a sea of overwhelmingly positive comments or questions about the deck or interchangeable cards.
Me: Confused.
Lovin these Reid videos.
My jaw dropped when I realised this was modern!
M1G3 can't you instead of trying to mill all Sanctuaries just let them return Cryptic and then mill cryptic? Sounds a lot better to me. Am I missing something that prevents that line?
that is literally what he says he should have done 20 secs later
I’m new to this deck and with Uro Omnath dominating the meta right now how do u guys feel about Leyline of Lifeforce in sideboard for that matchup?? I mean it kinda shuts them down from being able to counter our combo
these videos are definitely great for learning the deck, although sometimes i had to watch away because of the rookie mistakes (i respect Duke immensely, but he clearly doesn´t know this deck )
What are some strong sideboard options for this deck? I feel like sideboard can be tough against this matchup because there are a few different shells now with charbroiler. One interesting 5-0 list I saw sides in a charbroiler-deaths shadow shell to avoid the sideboard
40:26 Did Reid just make a UW control pun? "Teferi-ing degrees of"?
He does work for LSV, gotta keep the boss happy
51:25 there is no talisman of resistance, in any color combo
I've been curious about this deck. All of my legacy matches against belcher have ended on turn 1 for both teams.
in the min 31:30 aprox.... i think the winning path was to put the undercity informer un top, + 2 creeping chill..... so that way you have 6 more damage to close the game =D
creeping chill gets exiled once they've been used from the graveyard :)
@@strupulf daaamn xD ajajaah... u r right! thanks =p
lol
Hey Reid, love you, the phantasmagorian is there to fix it if you draw any swords of the meek.
Phantasmagorian is one of the best cards in the deck, don't take it out
Thoughts on Memory's Journey vs. Worldspine Wurm(s) in this deck?
TOP Viedeo. Thanks!
At 1:18:55 with thSword in hand, my soul is like, crushed b/c he got super punished for boarding out phantasmagorian. (Discard 3 cards with the narcomoeba trigger on the stack wins the game)
great content reid is good
50:30 you should of played land untapped, Pentad prism for 2, next turn Un tap and play leyline
@1:16:15 brazen borrower bounding a sword in response to the return of salvage titan...
I mean they ended up tapping out, but if would have prevented you from winning with vengevines. The same thing kindo happens though s that sword ended up in hand.
Anyone play this deck? I’m curious How hard is it to win against your opponent casting surgical extraction on your vengevines
@36:21 Should have waited for Mystic Sanctuary to put the Cryptic Command on top THEN used the Undercity Informer to mill opponents library, as you'll guarantee milling the CC.
Oh lol, he figured it out but too late. I was totally baffled and wrote this comment before he had finished it out.
Why not try to mill the cryptic after the mystic sanctuary?
37:00 Let your opponent put Crytpic Command back on top, then use the Informant to mill it back off.
1:21:45 that's why you keep phantasmagorian on the deck :p
Just curious, how come u don’t play 4 swords in case u draw one, I know there’s an extra narc in case u draw one. I understand that u have some mana rocks that can be the third artifact, but still
If you draw a sword, you can discard it to phantasmagorian in response to narcomoeba's triggered ability, and since if you draw phantasmagorian, it's still castable and there is a decent amount of other artifacts, you dont need the 2nd one.
Narcomoeba has to be in your deck for the combo to work, so you need a second one in case you draw one.
What are the chances Uro and Omnath join Oko and once upon a time on the lets pretend those didn't happen list?
1:19:50 aren't situations like this the entire reason you are supposed to keep pantasmagorian in? Even more so when it comes up in next opening hand. 1 card to help against those situations seems like it's really supposed to be in the deck for a good reason
What's the purpose of Phantasmagorian?
To get the swords and or vengevines into the graveyard in the rare circumstances that they are drawn. Cause if you draw 1 or more swords, it becomes hard to go off properly and cast the titan, unless u play a mana rock for each sword u drew. And sometimes u need more damage done by getting those drawn vengevines in the yard.
1:17:30 is a perfect example. He sided it out for this game, but if he left it in, he woulda won using it.
@@bumpasaurus487 yeah thanks, I figured it out after a while
Anybody know a commander decks similar to this? I love how this deck plays and I want to play a deck similar to it in commander
Probably something involving a Hermit Druid combo, a Cephalid Illusionist combo, and/or Oath of Druids self mill, plus a large number of tutors. Maybe win with Lab Maniac.
edhrec.com/cards/hermit-druid
Why are you playing the white MDFC instead of the blue one? Blue one lets you cast narc and memory's journey from hand, white one doesn't cast anything. Is there something I'm missing?
main reasons: varied colors for pentad prism, plus the need for as many untapped bolt lands as possible. Also: can cast leyline of sanctity
I want to see Reid make Shadowborn Apostles work
Is the buy box only for US?
You Box We Buy, you mean? No, anywhere, but heads up that you pay the shipping to get em to us.
haves he played Devoted Devastation yet?
I hope it doesn't get banned since its a nice non fetchland deck alternative.
game one you just kept putting your spy out for a remand, when you shouldve started with the talisman, either they dont remand it or they do and you recast it. Then you cast all the prisms setting up for an 8 mana turn
You know you've made a good deck when reid makes mistakes while playing it
He kept saying phantasmagoria isn’t that important and I was wondering how long that would take to punish him
It's like the engine and a must have in the opening hand🤦😒😐
@@zigzag2370 I think you might be overating that card, being a one of and all
@@zigzag2370 ? You don't want phantasmagorian in the opening hand. you specifically want it in the graveyard
@@hugodiazroa its a one of so you dont get it in your opener. It lets you discard any cards you need in the graveyard to make triggers resolve correctly. When you mill the deck, assume you might have a vine or a sword in your hand, when the narcomeba trigger goes on the stack you activate the phantasmagorian and discard all your vines and swords. Phantasmagorian ability can be activated as many times as you want in the yard before it comes back to your hand, so you can drop all the necessary pieces if you got unlucky and drew them.
Reid, do you think WOTC will bring new cards to modern by Secret Lair?
@Daedalus This, they'll try to make every penny they can off of Modern but Secret Lair is not the way to do it.
Not totally impossible, but they already have modern horizons with which to milk extra cash out of modern, and they do seem to be targeting EDH with their cards as opposed to any other formats, as at best 1-2 of the new cards will be fringe playable in legacy. Seems very unlikely to me, I’d say it’s more likely that they print a standard legal secret lair, and that’s not exactly likely either.
No, if anything they would reprint the new cards in the Lairs to Modern in a set like Horizons.
Once again can't be more satisfied by the rebranding to oopsallfireballs.com good move guys
I feel like a better name for this deck would be "0-land spy" after the classic Pauper deck.
BBrecht it named after the Legacy Deck Oops all spells which I’m pretty sure is older then Spy?
Oh, neat! This is the first time I actually see a Magic Online video!
The fact that I didn't even notice that misplay because of the horribly cluttered, unreadable interface convinces me that it's the worst version of magic that there is! Wow!
1:35:31 Reid wildin out
Game 1 perfectly illustrates why money tribal needs a nerf. You get 4 vengevines on board, and still can't beat them!!!
Can't believe he's not milling the cryptic command... Seriously? A top MTG player making that mistake?
If it's all spells, Kaheera is a free Companion right?
Creature spells are still spells so you don't meet the requirements as you need to keep your payoffs and combo pieces in the deck.
@@silverdeathgamer2907 thank you for being kind
I'm not familiar with MTGO so I just rewatched the deck and saw that there are no lands lol
I thought there weren't any creatures 😅
It was definitely wrong to give OP extra turn to not take 3 damage. OP deck definitely on a average turn produces more than 3 damage and with the Swiftspear already on the board average damage on the extra turn you gave is likely in the 6+ range.
Casting so many remands via mystical sanctuary is kinda disgusting.
Nice, 10th "Oops all spells" video i have Seen this week... are we done now?
I expect a week of "Oops, No Spells" aka "Extreme Hardcore Megaultraepic Lands" in reparation
It's an extremely new concept to modern, just accept the excitement and watch how it becomes tuned
Reid, you're my favorite pro player to follow on TH-cam/Stream. But you are already the fifth person to play this abomination of a deck!
It is very (too?) powerful but it has almost no interaction, it's not interesting to play Magic this way! Even mono Red Burn is more interesting!
If I had to guess, to stop this, I think banning Creeping Chill would be enough. Because you can Surgical the Vengevine when you trigger the Salvage Titan.
Please stop complaining about things, it's just annoying. It's only been about a week and the meta will adjust
@@Higley1234 I didn't only complain, I shared a thought about the meta.
Your comment is just so empty :)
@@Higley1234 Yeah lmao this is how graveyard decks work. When the meta removes graveyard hate and starts to play against other decks more in their sideboard its inevitable that a graveyard deck makes it big and starts to dominate the meta. Then its a week or 3 and the best hate starts getting run again
This looks like a weaker version of the belcher deck. The only thing I see on its favour is that force of negation doesn't get you.
play it on arena
Tough deck to play.
Lol
This is hogaak winter allover again. Wizards is clearly not testing sets anymore
That's quite an exaggeration
This is far from the same level as Hogaak Summer.
Hogaak was near unbeatable.
@@ZakanaHachihaCBC didnt start off that way and people said the same for hogaak literally its not as bad as eldrazi
Read, my English no good. I like play this game. This like Gane of thrones? Or dunjin dragons? Where your face Read? Put music in background Read too boring sound.
this seems like a terrible deck to play on paper
