My uncle, who's since passed away, gave this set to me in 2009 under the condition that I could build it in under two hours (I was a young kid at the time). I completed the challenge, and called him to let him know - and he was surprised I was able to do it, but said I would've been able to keep it regardless 😂 RIP Uncle Dave, you were a real one. That’s so heartwarming man. This was one of the few sets I almost got as a kid. It’s nice to see people having similar experiences with similar sets. 2009 really was the golden age of Lego Star Wars imo. Rip uncle Dave

Who even knows. With the backlash of the coruscant guard gunship not being the classic maybe LEGO will see that and say fans don’t want variants. Yet again if it releases in 2024 they would’ve already finalized its release by now.

The bomb dropping play feature is very cool and I’m totally up to seeing this be remade again - this is definitely a set ahead of its time

I remember getting this set for my birthday when it came out and man I love it and I found it a couple years ago at a garage sale. You won’t believe me but for $1!!!! 100% complete, all figures & accessories. Even the OG box and manual even the extra pieces. Still have it it this day
Such a nostalgic set and still one of my all-time favorites. Really hoping we’ll get some new Clone Wars Y-wings in the near future :)
This was the very first Lego set that me, my brothers and my dad got to build together and it was fantastic. Even as 3 young kids who didn’t take good care of things the build lasted almost a decade! It was always extremely fun to play with.
The R2-D2 actually is exclusive- it's the only set to have him in the Clone Wars art style.

I love this set!! I just took mine apart , washed all the pieces and rebuilt it. Such nostalgia rebuilding it. One of my favorite sets that I always keep around to display now and then.
I display mine with a clone pilot, clone gunner and the astromech from the 2014 V-wing. R4-P17 if i remember correctly, looks really good with them
Hoping someday we get Rex’s Y wing, but great review Ryan! And it was a pretty good set I liked the design of this Y wing. Didn’t get it cause I wasn’t alive lol 😂

The 2009’s box corner design is absolutely badass ! It’s like the Clones are chilling there, looking upon the kids in the toy shop while saying: « Yeah, ain’t it cool ? »
It’s nice that you’re praising this set for what it is and it really does cement its place as one the best sets LEGO Star Wars has ever released with probably the best variant of this iconic bomber. This was one of my personal favourite sets when I got it 2009 because the design was simple with so much nostalgia with a unique version of this iconic ship from its Original Trilogy version. Plus this set is pretty solid…and I will stand by that statement. Also the technic missile launcher is still beautiful. This is definitely one of those hidden gem sets that LEGO Star Wars has released and it’s awesome that you acknowledge how it’s stood the test of time.
I would also love see LEGO release an updated/remade version/modern day remake of this set since it would be awesome… I.e. Captain Rex’s Y-Wing.
This was my first LEGO set! It is so amazing and one of my favorite sets of all time. So much nostalgia!
Just got the Set for my birthday what a beautiful build! Aged like fine wine, could be put out today and still be wonderful, maybe a few piece changes on the side to make it straighter but thats really complaining on a very high level.
The thing I love about sets from the era is when your done building you can see all the other sets that you will never afford
I'd love for Lego to release either a basic yellow Clone Wars Y-wing or one of the red Clone Wars Y-wings, because while this Clone Wars Y-wing is really good it's very specifically Anakin's Y-wing from the episode "Shadow of Malevolence." You can tell that it's Anakin's Y-wing because it's mostly yellow with white markings, whereas the basic Clone Wars Y-wing is mostly white with yellow markings (basically an inverted version of this set).
Inflation makes this $85 in todays money, for everyone that likes to say LEGO used to be so affordable

I had this set when I was ten and loved it. I rebuilt it as Rex’s Y wing over a decade later after the Clone Wars season 7 finale. Still one of my favorite builds!

One thing im suprised that you didnt mention is the sag with both engines. I bought this set used complete with box for 30$cad and I noticed the end of the engines sag compared to the front, its not a big deal but definitely a bit more fragile then you'd expect.
You are not alone in your appreciation of Clone Wars style minifigures, I think that they are very artistic and stand out from the otherwise bland faces of minifigures.
It probably took Ryan like 20 times to catch the mega technique misal launcher 😂

I can imagine this being a really good starters set for kids who just started to watch clone wars and wants to buy a Lego set. Like imagine, you get a hero’s vehicle, and you get three iconic main character mini figures despite them being not exclusive. As a kid I would’ve loved this

TCW style Y-wing is my favorite style Y-wing with the pristine look and the set looks like it holds up even to this day. Here hoping for a 501st Y-wing and hopefully LEGO doesn’t correlate the backlash of the coruscant guard gunship with the Y-wing and not make the variant.

About the yellow part being different colors I actually notice the same thing on recent sets. My Mario 64 cube also has several yellows. 2-3 different tone mostly on the flat square pieces that make the upper face and the border of the others.
Edit : also have that on the Y-Wing I got this year. I assumed it was because it second hand but since white parts are not yellowed at all might be also an original difference in tones like yours

Got this set used (complete) for 20$ on ebay. Came with the instructions, but without the box and figures.

I use the upside down hands cuz they hold the sabers closer while still being nice and vertical. The upside down hilts is unforgivable though

This is the best play scale Y-wing LEGO has ever done.
The only thing I didn't like about this set is that its Anakin and Ahsoka's, the regular clone Y-Wings had inversed colors (yellow where white, and white where yellow.) Always wanted to make a custom one w that color scheme
If it’s yellow it could be just cause there’s a darker color underneath the fiat suffers from it a lot in some spots

I am in total agreement that Lego should create a Rex Y-wing. The blue and white with gray would look fantastic! It would also sell well if you give fans another Rex mini fig.
the Y-Wing is by far my favorite ship, and i've been on a mision to collect every one relesed. I have the rogue one, and rise if skywalker ones, but really want the UCS one,and I've been trying to ge this one for quite a while now.
I Remember trading a duplicate clone wars Jedi that I had for a full set-in elementary school. Best trade I've ever done.
A lot of people don’t realize that, that is an exclusive R2-D2. It’s a clone wars version that only came in this set.

I still have this set and it's such a good one and really detailed. And to answer your question, no the shade of yellow was all the same back then because I got it just as it came out and all the yellow was the same shade.

You’re totally right. I liked this set at the time. But 14 years later this set still holds up great and I would buy today. Really wanting Rex’s y-wing now. And as I’ve said, I’m really more of an OT Star Wars fan. So all the more impressive. Great vid.
I've never been a fan of the "full" Y-wing but that's just because I grew up with the "stripped" one. Still a cool set though.
The yellows not matching is still a problem, I recently got the Dreamzzz Nightmare Shark Ship, and that still has that exact discrepancy.
Lego needs to release either the head hunter, the arc 170, or a clone y wing. Can we petition for a new fighter like we did for the battle pack
I got this set while with instructions and the bounty Hunter ship with all the figs for 70$ on a porch pick-up one night three years ago and man I have a lot of sets but this is the one next to the courasant police ship that I have to say is great to see everyday it’s so clone wars that you have to have it I wish they would make a Rex version someday they need to

I didn't know putting the minifigure's hands upside down to hold the lightsabers was a lego sin.
I actually do it all the time so lightsaber do not go too further out

Actually, Ryan the R2-D2 is exclusive to the set I looked it up on BL because it looked strange to me and it's only ever come in this set LOL.
The hands upside down is a way to make the lightsabers straighter. You of all people should know that.

I’ve had sets with yellow pieces from similar years that also have slight color variations, I think it has to do with the amount of dye they put into the mold being inconsistent
i love this set but i think it'd be much better if it had 2 pilots/1 pilot and 1 gunner instead of anakin and ahsoka, then it's better to get multiple

This was one of my only sets from clone wars back then since I was a kid :,(
I'm one of those who gets really put off by the big eyes on the minifigures.
Also not a fan of this Y-Wing design either. Not a fan of most of the redesigns from Clone Wars in general, actually. But then again, I'm not a fan of Clone Wars/The Clone Wars in general.
However, I have to say that the R2-D2 integration with the firing mechanism by basically sticking a dildo into him is pretty ingenious. I'd like to see that more often (the integration of the shooting mechanism into the droid pit. Not R2-D2 being impaled).
