    One of my favorite X-men runs , one of my favorite comic book runs and one of my favorite artists in comics.

    We need more Quitely work! I wouldn't be the artist I am, without the the brilliance that this man has shared. Had the honor if sitting in on several panels he did at Fan Expo Toronto some years ago. Such a humble gentleman as well. I hope Frank sees this and knows how important and respected he is to myself and other artists I know.

    This was great! I primarily make silent indie comics and I just had a anthology editor ask if I would put text in one of my comics so the readers won't skim over it too fast. I'm really glad you dropped this when you did because it makes a great case for silent story telling. I may forward this to them. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos, they are wonderful!

      I think, arguably, there's a case for readers kind of breezing through a silent story. But that doesn't make it less powerful. Have you seen Petals, by Gustavo Borges? One of the best comics of recent years, and no dialogue whatsoever!

      @@StripPanelNaked Well put. There are so many great silent comics. Message in a Bottle by Rodolphe Guenoden, Tom Neely’s The Blot, and Chaboute’s Park Bench are all quick but fantastic reads. I havn't come across Petals but I'll pick it up. Thanks for the recommendation.

    "Jean swimming with sperm [...] all just really really simple stuff" haha, that cracked me up! Thanks for this, big fan of GM/FQ but haven't gotten into their X-work, so this got me excited. Any TPB where their run is collected?

      There's trades, but also the bigger book collections has most of Morrison's run:

    You should do Russell Dauterman's giant size X-men next

    I know some ppl aren’t big on Quitely’s art style especially on Morrison’s new X-Men but I absolutely love it. It just works. It helps to inform the story because this title in and of itself was grimy and distorted both In tone and in characterization. Everyone got their hands dirty in some way and the Art helps to get that point across

    Wonderful video! Learned so much about storytelling through page design.

  • @RodTejada502
    @RodTejada502 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is mindbending in several ways. As a graphic designer, you're usually not encouraged on keeping things centered as it tends to provide "boring" and "predictable" in general strokes and there's NONE of it in this structure.
    As you said: a great narrator and storyteller.

      When we did the panel, he said it's something Will Eisner told him when he met him and showed him some of his work. Eisner told him that if it's important, put it straight down the middle of the page.

      @@StripPanelNaked Who are we to argue with the sage advice of Will Eisner? ;)
      Joking aside, Im serious. That´s terrific advise and I would have ignored it if not by your essay. Thank you for that!

    Was this during "'Nuff Said" month, where all the comics were dialogless?

    • @StripPanelNaked

      @@StripPanelNaked I was only reading Iron Man at the time, and that was pretty well done how they worked that out. It was a dumb marketing gimmick but it's nice to see when writers and art teams did a good job with it. It's like a creative challenge, and as a creator myself I find those interesting when they succeed.
