I have had mine for a year. Styling and performance are great. But there are two significant problems and the dealer hasn't been able to resolve them. First, when driving from about 43-53 MPH there is a thumping sound that I feel is from air compression. The mechanic at the dealer basically said "live with it." The other problem is rattles. For a car costing over $100,000 I wouldn't expect there to be significant rattles - but there are. The dealer has tried to fix them but has failed thus far. I have had 10-12 Mercedes cars and currently own 4. This SL is a major disappointment due to the air compression problem and the rattles. I will probably get rid of it shortly after the new year and go to a different manufacturer for future cars.
I think you need to find a new dealer. I've had a number of problems with my personal cars that simply can't be resolved unless a tech and/or service writer care about what they're doing and have the skill to fix it (after I've found the right person, the problems were resolved). I had no rattles in my short time with the SL, but I hope you get yours fixed! Too good of a car to have issues that you need to "live with."
