In 1897, brothers Max and Oskar Schwab met Hermann Bauer and Franz Kehrli at the University of Bern. As the four high school students had been so impressed by a guest appearance by the Basel club Old Boys against FC Bern, they founded a football club under the similar name FC Young Boys on 14 March 1898. The four also adopted the club colours of yellow and black.
