    Really appreciate it. I think it's great to hear someone promoting choosing a career based on personality/talent. I will be transitioning into tech and looking forward to learning ux/ui design. I think I can always gain certifications and self study with coding if I ever want to switch or to amplify my resume. I am super grateful to hear about this!

      glad it helps! I've coded many websites and never went to school for coding. You can totally learn all that on the internet for free :)

    Thank you for the insight. I'm at a bit of a crossroads whether to continue learning development (I've already learned and worked with HTML/CSS), or to delve further into UX/UI (which I've only just started to learn UI).
    It's hard to say what I like better, simply because I haven't done enough of either to decide. I do well with HTML & CSS, but I haven't really gotten into the harder work of JS and software development so I'm not entirely sure how I'll do with those subjects.
    I've gotten a good eye for UI design fundamentals, but I've only just scratched the surface with creating mockups/prototypes in Figma.
    So it's an interesting place I'm at. I appreciate your views on the industry and they seem very much in line with what some other designers were saying about things. (i.e. the 3:1 ratio of devs to designers, the pay difference). I'm definitely more concerned about choosing a path that I enjoy more and can see myself becoming extremely competent at. The difference in salary doesn't really impact my decision-making.
    I'm sure in the coming week I'll have done more research and had more time to sleep on it. It's an interesting industry for sure, and I'm excited to see where I end up. Thanks for the help.

      If you really have to think this hard, then you're probably not passionate about either :) which is fine but passion can take your game to the next level.

      that's actually a good topic to make a video for. Iow budget clients will always go for template, but they are not your target customers. Amazon and Apple will never let AI to design their stuff. something to think about :)

  • @panchalnidhi7
    @panchalnidhi7 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey Caleb really appreciate your video on this topic . I have been working as developer for past 3 years , i can do things in dev if i like put all of it but tbh its gets really hard for me. I get stuck for things that even fresher to me is able to do in almost less then half its takes me. I have alwasy been passionate about design , i have given some go at it and i wish to go ahead only further , there is not much hope for me in development i m sure of that. But its the industry here like in india the oppturnity is too low and also the career is not given any importance as a designer. What sould i do in this case im really confused here to go ahead or how do i make it work?

    • @KaYungCalebLai
      @KaYungCalebLai  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you man, it's hard to do something when there's no market for it. I know a lot of people outsource their dev work to India, even Google employee a bunch of Indian devs but rarely designers. Is there anything you can do to improve your dev skills? If you want to be a designer and work outside of your local market, you have to be really top of the line. It's no easy task and you must be very determined. You can check my video here that talks about that th-cam.com/video/L78bYVSkeRg/w-d-xo.html

    Hi
    My name is Abraham and i have a question that have been bothering me.
    My question is that can a ux or ui designer create a website (for the beginning to the end) and publish is to the internet
    Without a web developer.

    • @KaYungCalebLai
      @KaYungCalebLai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so yea. There are a lot of no-code software now. Not entirely sure about the code quality, but if you know some basic html/css, you can use webflow (also no code)

    Cant agree with levels of design. It's ridiculous. Graphic designer is not on the bottom. It's just different type of designers. They designs different things. I'm pretty sure that you didn't dive into this because if you did you would know that for example packages can be very complicated to design and prepare to production. I'm absolutely sure that 99% of web designers have no idea how to design packages properly and prepare them to print in for example even 5 but we can have 9 colors or more :)
    You shouldn't say that because it means that you don't understand their jobs. I feel like you did few leaflets and catalogues and you think you know this level. Belive me you don't. You know basics in graphic design work

    • @KaYungCalebLai
      @KaYungCalebLai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I hear you, I think it's more from a salary point of view. general graphic designers are usually at the bottom of that scale.

    • @krzysztofhurbiszewski6539
      @krzysztofhurbiszewski6539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KaYungCalebLai Obviously not true. If you mean young designers designing leaflets, or catalogues it's true. But high level packaging designers earn quite good. It's very similar to UX designers salary.
