I think Oasis should never reunite because Liam and Noel are on two different styles of creativity ATM that I don't think they would work well creavitly anymore. I still want them to reunite as brothers for the shake of their mom though
I’d add Creedence Clearwater Revival to this. There was so much in-fighting with them, especially leading up to their final album together, that John Fogerty and the other two surviving members (since John’s brother Tom, the first of the band to leave, died in 1990) still hate each other and are suing each other to this day. There’s a really good video by Todd in the Shadows on their breakup and last album.
@Christopher Bingham that may be part of it. In the Todd in the Shadows video I mentioned about their last album, he compares the songs Fogerty wrote for it to the others’ songs. And the other songs range from forgettable to laughably bad to nearly unlistenable. He also made a point that, if Fogerty really was the talented one of the bunch (since he was not only the lead singer, but also the only songwriter for the majority of their career), he should’ve done what Bruce Springsteen did with his moniker of “The Boss” and clearly established himself as the lead of the band. Apparently a lot of the fighting was over who was getting enough credit and recognition for their work in the band (and hence why Fogerty claims the other bandmates demanded they write songs themselves), but Fogerty was really the one doing most of the work.
I actually hope The Smiths never reunite because Morricunt has already and thoroughly desecrated their legacy, just like how Punk Rock Betrayer Johnny Ro'en obliterated the Sex Pistols' legacy and good will.
A very talented band that broke up for more than ten years and haven’t reunited has to be Botch. They were right up their with bands like Converge, Dillinger, and Coalesce for pioneering the insanely, good mathcore genre. Also, Porcupine Tree is another one that comes to mind.

REM are the only band I know who were together a long time (31 years), broke up amicably, and will probably never get back together in a significant way.
The Jam were the biggest band in Britain when they split at the height of their powers, many middle age Mods would love to see them together, but Paul Weller has said Never. It kind of keeps their memory intact and they influenced many Brit Pop bands.
REM should certainly at least reunite for another tour & the original lineup of Genesis with Peter Gabriel & Steve Hackett would be an amazing one off versus the watered down & commercialized version coming to a city near you this fall.
Liam has gotten better over the years and currently I enjoy his solo work more than Noel's which I never expected. Noel needs to just suck it up and do the reunion
Mild correction. Bes is and Butthead didn’t toast White Zombie’s videos, they raved about them. They were a big part of what made them “cool” and helped launch the bands career.
susie and the banshees should have been on this list !! would love for you to cover some of their work in one of your videos jon! they are a great band
I'm so grateful that my parents took me to see the White Stripes when they were touring to support Icky Thump, I was 11 and it was absolutely mindblowing.
I’ve only been to two rock concerts, and one was the last tour that the White Stripes did together. The first was David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails as the opener.
Morrissey released 3 really good albums in the past 5 years and Johnny Marr has been releaseing albums pretty consistantly shame nobody ever talks about them
Bjork´s old band The Sugarcubes is one that comes to mind and of course Abba, arguably the most successful band ever to never reunite one single time after they split in the early 80´s. Kind of surprised that they weren´t on here, also since it´s an interesting story with the band having two married couples, that both got divorced.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention sonic youth. After Thurston and Kim’s creative differences grew tiresome and they divorced they called it quits. There’s a slight chance of a reunion with Thurston saying that it’s a hiatus relying on how him and Kim feel about getting together again for the band, but Kim has said that they’re never going to come back.
Beatles wouldn’t count for the list I made. John died not too long after the breakup and I’m sure they would’ve reunited at some point since all of the other members did
As a long time Oasis fan from the mid 90's still going... I am always of the belief that the fighting of the Gallaghers was always more exaggerated than the media made it out to be. Brothers fight... until they had the big one that ended the group. There are rumors what led to the building animosity... and it was NOT about Liam's clothing label Pretty Green... that was the last thing among a mountain of reasons. I had heard the real reason is Liam not knowing what topic to stay off of when pressing Noel's buttons... apparently Liam found a real trigger point with Noel... and it has to do with the legitimacy of his personal Family... namely one of his children. Liam loves his brother Noel but he cannot help himself to fire off his mouth to hurt Noel because he feels hurt Noel doesn't listen to him anymore.
One vocal group that comes to mind for men is The Statler Brothers. They broke up in 2002, after being together for _forty-seven years_ . Lew DeWitt quit in the 1980s due to Crohn's Disease, which eventually took him in 1990. Bass singer Harold Reid died in 2020, at the age of 80, Phil Balsley turns 83 next month, Don Reid is now 77, and DeWitt's replacement Jimmy Fortune is a relatively youthful 67. I'm pretty sure the Statler Brothers are fairly content in their retirement.
I would like to make mention that both Gallagher's have actually tossed the idea of getting together again back and forth a bit. Not saying it will ever happen, but they've talked about it.
I got to see Rob Zombie in 2012 headline pointfest as just "Zombie" and played a bunch of both bands hits. He had John 5 Piggy D and Ginger Fish with him then :P (my personal favorite of his lineups)
Love the list, Jon. I have one little qualm. To be honest, the possibility for a Smiths reunion is probably closer to a zero than a three. Johnny Marr and Morrissey have cut off musical and personal ties for 35 years now. Marr highly dislikes Morrissey's far-right leaning politics, and Marr's son shows constant vitriol towards Moz on social media. It makes no sense for Marr to associate with Morrissey anymore, who continues to grow more and more disliked by the public with each poorly thought-out statement he releases. Even back in 2006-7 where they entertained the possibility of a reunion for, like, three days, Morrissey only agreed to it if Mike Joyce wouldn't be a member of the newly-formed Smiths. I'm not sure how much of a reunion that would have been with only three quarters of the band present regardless of how integral you think the rhythm section is to the band. The Smiths is over for the better, I would expect an Oasis reunion before they ever come back together.
And now Daft Punk should be added in as I got a feeling they're done as a Duo now and doing there own thing, but hey loved what they did together and can't wait to see what they offer as Solo Artists.
you can always tell when morrissey talks about the smiths he pretends he doesnt care about the band but deep down he really does miss those days and cares about the music
Iced Earth is one that hurts for me. Their last album was incredible and they had an awesome lineup, but then their leader decided to go to DC in January for that dumpster fire.
Unwound, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dead Kennedys come to mind as well. I know Dead Kennedys are still technically a band with everyone but Jello, but does anyone really care? And they haven't released any new music since the Jello days. So yeah, I'd put them here too. You could say the same thing with Black Flag w/ Greg Ginn.
I still remember a friend of mine saying that both Noel and Liam Gallagher have said that Oasis would only reunite if the other brother was dead, like that seriously just shows just how long-standing their absolute burning hatred for each other is and I genuinely don’t know any other siblings that fight as frequently as them…
The Necessaries are my personal favorite. After releasing two excellent albums in the early 80’s Arthur Russell their cellist, keyboard player and co lead singer jumped out of the car window and into the Holland Tunnel while the band was on the way to what was considered a crucial show for the group. Russell died in 1992 ( a decade after the incident, and although it was already unlikely they’d all play together again they most certainly won’t be now )
People want to blame David for the Talking Heads fallout, but Chris Frantz was awful to him. If I had autism and my band members gave me a hard time for it, I would never reunite that band either
Making this sort of list only makes sense in case of bands that lost members so important they can't exist without them. The Beatles Led Zeppelin Queen The Germs Nirvana (You get the idea, the list goes on...)
Sadly I don’t see Daniel Johns ever doing anything again in the music world, let alone Silverchair. It’s not that he can’t, I just don’t think he wants too. Oddly I think it’s a bit like the Meg White story mentioned in the video, Internal mental battles as opposed to clashes with band mates or BS like that.
your pretty accurate bro, blew my mind you got the TH on here, and No, Byrne is way to good to play in a new wave band, he made his money, obviously that's all it was for, Tom Tom Club have done some stuff though, and the band are phenomenal musicians, that live movie they did is possibly one of the best concert movies ive ever watched, I wished I couldve seen them live, thats the fkd up thing, they were kind of weak on album, it wasnt till I saw that live video that I realized how mind blowing they were. .
The only way I see the White Stripes doing even a temporary short lived reunion is if they do a 3 song performance should they be inducted in the rock n roll hall of fame.
I think the beatles count as well, they did break up in 1970 but got made music in 1996. Although John Lennon passed away and technical it wasn't the beatles
Pretty much enjoy every band listed here and kind of agree that it's for the best they leave things as is. Honestly, though, I feel like the arrogance of Liam and Noel Gallagher is weirdly endearing and I end up kind of loving them more because of it. I still keep forgetting as well that Radiohead actually got their name from a Talking Heads song.
There's a good interview of the og members of white zombie I think loundwire did and one of the members said zombie fucking hates the guy and bc of that alone there will never be an og reunion
Another group that comes to mind is REM, who decided in 2011 that they'd done everything they wanted to do and just wanted to call it a day (Bill Berry had already had to call it quits due to complications from a brain aneurysm in 1997).
Talking Heads... sigh....love them sooo much. With David it's odd, there's no artist that I LOVE that I hate more. His ego crushed the band and his ego made the band
I like the solo stuff Noel & Liam have done its not revolutionary but nice, its much better than the final couple albums even though many may disagree.

Noel needs to just suck it up and do the reunion
love all the spicy metaphors you use lmao
Now the Smiths can’t get back together now that bassist Andy Rourke died yesterday
Kinda surprised he didn't mention Credence Clearwater. There is absolutely zero chance of them ever reuniting.
I was thinking Dead Kennedys but I remembered they got back together without Jello the original singer and lyricist. Wonder how many bands did that.
I’ve only been to two rock concerts, and one was the last tour that the White Stripes did together. The first was David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails as the opener.
Morrissey released 3 really good albums in the past 5 years and Johnny Marr has been releaseing albums pretty consistantly shame nobody ever talks about them
I’d put CCR on this list too. Its been 50 years and they still all hate each other
Jon, not sure if you've listened to Bob Mould's solo stuff or his 90s band Sugar, I highly recommend it!!
Abba was probably omitted because they reunited a few years ago and released a new album last November, Voyage.
As of today Mars Volta is back and in action so I am glad they can't be added to this list!
how dare you not mention the score the brought Danny Elfman into most of our lives for the first time Batman?
What about the Beatles and CCR because they broke up and never reunited?
Beatles wouldn’t count for the list I made. John died not too long after the breakup and I’m sure they would’ve reunited at some point since all of the other members did
@@artvjon The Beatles broke up in 1970, and John Lennon died in 1980. That's 10 years after the break up and could count.
"More" exaggerated than the media made out? So it's worse than it looked?
One vocal group that comes to mind for men is The Statler Brothers. They broke up in 2002, after being together for _forty-seven years_ . Lew DeWitt quit in the 1980s due to Crohn's Disease, which eventually took him in 1990. Bass singer Harold Reid died in 2020, at the age of 80, Phil Balsley turns 83 next month, Don Reid is now 77, and DeWitt's replacement Jimmy Fortune is a relatively youthful 67.
I'm pretty sure the Statler Brothers are fairly content in their retirement.
Coldest take in the history of TH-cam: saying Noel's solo work is better than Liam's fantastic work. Liam's 'One of Us' being especially delightful.
I'd love to see you talk about The Smiths more! Also I was recently listening to TWS and I realized they've been broken up for a decade now, that hit
I would like to make mention that both Gallagher's have actually tossed the idea of getting together again back and forth a bit. Not saying it will ever happen, but they've talked about it.
Pretty much everyone on the list has “talked about it”, doesn’t mean it’ll happen tho lol
I got to see Rob Zombie in 2012 headline pointfest as just "Zombie" and played a bunch of both bands hits. He had John 5 Piggy D and Ginger Fish with him then :P (my personal favorite of his lineups)
"I'm leaving out bands with death in them so you wont see nirvana etc"
16:06 - "nevermind lol"
"time zips by like a cheetah" poetic stuff
you can always tell when morrissey talks about the smiths he pretends he doesnt care about the band but deep down he really does miss those days and cares about the music
Three of my favorite bands, Talking heads, Oingo Boingo, and The Smiths. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
Stop Making Sense is EASILY in the top 5 concert films of all time
Iced Earth is one that hurts for me. Their last album was incredible and they had an awesome lineup, but then their leader decided to go to DC in January for that dumpster fire.
Hey artv. Just wondering but do you have plans on reviewing the new version of "Catching Fire" by Sum 41?
No
Unwound, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dead Kennedys come to mind as well.
If I had autism and my band members gave me a hard time for it, I would never reunite that band either
how’s the beatles not on this list???
Because John Lennon died. All the other members reunited, and I think they would have if he hadn't died.
It's so good not seeing mcr on the list
Oh shit Danny's doing oingo boingo songs as of this year!!!
Making this sort of list only makes sense in case of bands that lost members so important they can't exist without them.
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Queen
The Germs
Nirvana
(You get the idea, the list goes on...)
im excpecting to see oasis, powderfinger and silverchair on here and the smiths of course
Not surprised Oasis is on here. I understand your reasoning why they're not #1 but was shocked that they aren't
"The Smiths" are still the greatest band ever.
your pretty accurate bro, blew my mind you got the TH on here, and No, Byrne is way to good to play in a new wave band, he made his money, obviously that's all it was for, Tom Tom Club have done some stuff though, and the band are phenomenal musicians, that live movie they did is possibly one of the best concert movies ive ever watched, I wished I couldve seen them live, thats the fkd up thing, they were kind of weak on album, it wasnt till I saw that live video that I realized how mind blowing they were.
Looking back on The Smiths, I know now that’ll never happen. 😔 RIP Andy.
There's a good interview of the og members of white zombie I think loundwire did and one of the members said zombie fucking hates the guy and bc of that alone there will never be an og reunion
what about kyuss
*triggered Homme noises*
Dire Straits, Fugazi, REM, Powderfinger, Silverchair, Screaming Trees, Tatu, Blur, The Verve
Blur did reunite!
Another group that comes to mind is REM, who decided in 2011 that they'd done everything they wanted to do and just wanted to call it a day (Bill Berry had already had to call it quits due to complications from a brain aneurysm in 1997).
Can we give a collective How the Fuck as to how Jonny and Joey Ramone stayed together despite feuding for decades?
Talking Heads... sigh....love them sooo much. With David it's odd, there's no artist that I LOVE that I hate more. His ego crushed the band and his ego made the band
3 and 4 hurt, hurt deeply
OMG!!! I am so happy that someone else agrees about Noel Gallagher being the better musician/songwriter.
I like the solo stuff Noel & Liam have done its not revolutionary but nice, its much better than the final couple albums even though many may disagree.
