Britney Spears "The Original Doll" - Britney had grown tired of her controlled career in 2004 and made an album that would have her real deep soulful voice and not the baby voice and focus on her controlled lifestyle. Britney went on a radio show without her labels permission and leaked the song 'Mona Lisa' which described the fall of her alter ego Mona Lisa. The record label scrapped it when they found out about it using her real voice and the topics on the album.

    Great video Jon.
I definitely want to hear Eros, Cigarettes and Valentines, Paper Kingdoms, and Crickets and Clovers because those albums had some progress.
Side note I also want to hear Conventional Weapons as a full album as well.
Some video suggestions for 7 on 7
1.lost or forgotten EPs like Paramore’s The Summer Tic, MCR’s Mad Gear and the Missile Kid, or The Cure’s Lost Wishes
    2. Maybe lost / out of print / limited release albums like Bad Religion’s Into the Unknown or Fucked Up’s David’s Town as examples.
    3. One of Singles / Non Album Singles like Lafayette Blues from The White Stripes.
    4. Good B-Sides
I have an interest in Rare songs and music. Keep up the great work Jon.

I have a feeling that paper kingdom might come back. Back when the album was being worked on, things were still pretty good and light. The concept would have been too much at the time. But after the release of foundations of decay which touches on dark shit, which was released in this day in age where if we don't hear new traumatic news when you get up then something is really wrong, an album about people trying to cope with terrible trauma might be kind of cathartic. Especially since their other albums helped people deal with the dark subjects presented in those albums. So if they bring it back, it might work out better then if they released it prior to the 2020s

The debut album from Tapeworm, the supergroup that never developed. Included members of Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle among others. An album's worth of material was in the making while Trent Reznor and Maynard James Keenan were touring and recording with their respected projects from 1995-2004. The group ultimately dissolved, but only two songs would be released as "covers" from A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.

As a hardcore Charli fan, I really wish that XCX World got a full official release. I've heard a lot of the TH-cam compilations you mentioned and they're all great, however I just know that hearing the finalised versions as a full record would have been amazing (also I think she'd be way more popular in the mainstream if that album was released because it sounded like it was gonna be way more accessible but that's a story for another day). However, if we had gotten XCX World we probably wouldn't have had the 2017 mixtapes or Charli which are all great projects in their own right, so i suppose that's a bit of silver lining.

I would love to hear the fully finished version of Jabberwocky by Jani Lane. After he briefly left Warrant the first time, he was going to release this solo album in 1993. Then he rejoined for awhile. I believe that there were multiple times from 2003 until his death in 2011 when the album was supposedly worked on or supposed to get released. This album is in my opinion better and much more emtional than the albums he actually got released, as well as most of the hair metal material he released with Warrant. The demos for the Jabberwocky are on TH-cam, but I know I heard a finished version of one of the songs somewhere on the internet a few years ago. I do believe that somewhere in the world there are finished recordings of all the songs on it.

I can think of two more Pink Floyd-related unreleased albums. These have more tragic circumstances behind them. Each is a third solo album from one of the members. First, Syd Barrett went into the studio to record his third effort, but that was abandoned after only three days, in part due to his declining mental health. Very little was recorded, and much of that hasn't seen the light of day.
The other is Rick Wright's third solo album. I can find even less about that, just that it was thought to be all instrumental. He died before he could finish the thing.
Both are projects for which I would love to hear what little was recorded. Maybe someday they might become public (even Barrett's basic rhythm guitar parts that apparently was most of what he put down).

David Bowie recorded a 3 hour improvised industrial rock opera, parts of which were edited into what became "1. Outside". His record company at the time didn't want to release the album as originally intended which is why the version that we got was a much shorter album with only about half of it coming from the original session. Bowie had plans to release a 2nd part, often rumoured to be titled "2. Contamination" but it was never released. Sections of the rock opera have leaked over the years with about an hours worth of material floating around online. It's really interesting stuff but we're unlikely to ever hear the full recording. Partly because the record label didn't think that it was good enough and partly because by the time "1. Outside" was released, Bowie was already ready to move onto his next project, becoming more interested in drum'n'bass music. At one point, after "1. Outside" being released in 1995, he considered releasing another albums each year leading up to the year 2000 that would take place within the same world, but as he'd already moved on, this never happened either. One project that was connected to this was an album made using samples of historical sounds which he and Brian Eno had supposedly done some work on, although this has never been released in any form. Bowie did have another shelved album a few years later called "Toy", however this has since been released, although there's still a few songs from those sessions that aren't on the official release but are on the leaked versions of the album. Neither of these were Bowie's first unreleased/unfinished project though. The album that became "Young Americans" had started out as another project called "The Gouster". A version of this album has also since been released but it focuses on the songs that ended up on "Young Americans" rather than the material that was left unused including "Shilling The Rubes" and "I Am A Laser".

Aaron North's band Jubilee were in the process of making an album(which would've featured many guests including Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor, and Maynard James Keenan), but due to a nervous breakdown and health issues was hospitalized and officially retired from music.
Billy Corgan's Zwan is said to have multiple albums worth of material, but Corgan said he will never release them due to how badly the band broke up.

I love these list video, so keep 'em coming!
However, I have to address something you said about the Pink Floyd album. You seemed to wonder at how "limited" the technology of the time was compared to today. Well, actually... in many ways, today's technology, being digital in nature is very much limited in comparison to that of 1974.
The reason for this is... digital. The thing is that digital samplers and digital effects are entirely created by man himself, in which he attempts to emulate the physical world around him. But that emulation only goes so far as the programmer and/or hardware developer created it. Hard limit.
Whereas, those using analogue equipment are limited by... the laws of physics itself. You have a bunch of tape machines and mysterious black boxes which can be manipulated in ways that are limited only by your imagination, not a software version. It's also vastly more satisfying to know that you've conquered *the universe itself!*, rather than managed to survive installing the latest version of a digital sampler.

_Hoodoo_ was a John Fogerty solo album from 1976. After the lead single tanked, the record label rejected the album. Fogerty wouldn’t release any new music until _Centerfield_ in 1985. Apparently, the record label destroyed the master tapes at Fogerty’s request.

Actually, both Fogerty and Asylum (his label at the time) agreed that Hoodoo wasn’t up to Fogerty’s standards, and all materials destroyed…or so they thought, as Hoodoo has been bootlegged over the years, and has even wound up on TH-cam! (With photos of both front and back cover art, no less!)

Here’s one of my favorite examples: Halo by Hoops.
This album was supposed to come out last fall. There were even some singles released including one of my favorite songs of 2020, Fall Back.
However, sexual misconduct allegations against one of their former members came out. Once that happened, the band made the decision to break up and their label, Fat Possum canceled the album. The singles even got pulled from Spotify.
What I find interesting is this was a former member who was no longer in the band that had the allegations and if you look on Spotify the band’s material with him is still up (last I checked anyway).
Thankfully Fall Back is still on TH-cam and the fully album had leaked so you can still hear it, just not officially.
Still this bums me out because I was really excited for the future of this band.

One that comes to mind is the Demos, Odds and Ends that Tom DeLonge released in 2015. That was supposed to be the next blink album. I guess since it came out it wouldn’t technically qualify for this list but it’s so good it makes you wonder what it could have been.

It's interesting that in most of this cases, what was created at the end after pushing aside those unrealised projects would turn out to be seen as their best one like Pretty Odd, Pinkerton and American Idiot. Also I was wondering what did happened with Charlie and why lots of songs I've heard by her never went into an album. And yeah, the PF idea seemed like a really good one!

    • @cowmark67
      @cowmark67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @lisandroxiii5031
      @lisandroxiii5031 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cowmark67 maybe those albums weren't mean to be realised or they wouldn't have been as well excecuted as we thought, and then mixing the good initial idea they had with those albums and adding in some new ones really helped creating such iconic and loved projects

This might not be as big of an example, but it's still one I think about because of the fact that I'm a huge fan of this artist:
After The Weeknd released "My Dear Melancholy," he revealed that he was previously working on an album that was a lot poppier and more upbeat. It was pretty much entirely done, but he scrapped it because he didn't want to perform music that he didn't feel. He also said that we'll never get to hear that scrapped material. Pretty fascinating to me.
(Also, as a huge BROCKHAMPTON fan, it goes without saying that I have to bring up "TEAM EFFORT" and "PUPPY")
