My boyfriend at the time and I saw the coverage on the local El Paso news. My boyfriend couldn't understand why I was so upset and crying.
Every time we passed a car with RIP Selena or, Selena Forever written on its windows, I'd just started crying again.
Her breakout song Dreaming Of You got me into her music.

While I am very displeased with the list excluding crimes from outside of the US; I have a few suggestions:
1.) Dunblane Primary School massacre in Dunblane, Scotland in March of 1996.
2.) US Embassy bombings in Nairobi, Kenya and Daar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in August of 1998.
3.) Candelária Massacre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July of 1993.
4.) Sarin gas attack on the subway system of Tokyo, Japan in March of 1995.
5.) Collapse of the Sampoong Department Store in Seoul, South Korea in June of 1995.
6.) Port Arthur massacre in Australia in April of 1996.
I'm genuinely surprised that people are having a variety of reactions to my suggestions for a different list. I'm certain that a lot of them would agree with me that the Tokyo subway attacks and the collapse of the Sampoong Department Store in Seoul, Korea should be on the list because the former caused the Japanese government to stop being so hesitant about conducting criminal investigations against religious organizations and also caused the citizens of Japan to realize that they are not immune from acts of terrorism whereas the latter caused the South Korean government to start implementing tougher building codes and also caused the citizens of South Korea to question the price that they paid for their nation's economic prosperity.

@@MartialBob While it stinks that these events didn't make much news in the US; I added them because the victims deserve to be remembered, the survivors deserve to tell their stories, and the heroes deserve to be honored. Though I am understandably bewildered that the 1998 US embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania didn't make the list. Though I have a slight theory that the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center complex in New York City was a vague foreshadowing to US embassy bombings in Nairobi, Kenya and Daar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 1998.

The murder of Gianni Versace as part of the Andrew Cunnanan spree killing. That was pretty infamous.

    • @michaellovely6601
      @michaellovely6601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I was impressed by the season of "American Crime Story" that profiled the murder of Gianni Versace because of how much the principal cast members looked like the people they portrayed. Penélope Cruz portrayed Donatella Versace and it didn't take much for her to get into character. I saw a photo of Penélope on set and it was mind blowing how much she looked like Donatella. All it took for Penélope to get into character was a moody facial expression, a fake cigarette, a blonde wig, smokey eye makeup, and a tight-fitting red dress. Rounding out the cast was Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico, and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunnanan.

In both instances; anyone who was a community outcast, didn't attend church services as regularly as others in the community, expressed skepticism and/or criticism of the trials, or expressed their belief that the accused were innocent could run the risk of accusations of being "in league with the Devil."

@@corkycobon1481 You're welcome! When it comes to historical events it is of great importance to get the details right. TH-cam user Top5s did a video on the top five events caught on live TV; and one of the events he included was the tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011. Top5s accidentally said that the magnitude 9.0 earthquake which generated the tsunami shook northwestern Japan; in reality the earthquake occurred off the country's northeastern coast. If the earthquake occurred off of Japan's northwestern coast; the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center would have only issued tsunami warnings for the coastal areas of Japan, Russia, North Korea, and South Korea.

Yes OPERATION PATSCON which included Ruby Ridge-Sam Weaver age 10, dog Styler, and Vicky Weaver age 26 all over Randy Weaver's refusal to sell sawed off shotguns for the FBI.
Then you have WACO where the branch Davidians lived peacefully for over 50 years so the FBI infiltrates and comes up with stories about David Koresh being a pedophile and other crap, and burned people alive, then the OKC bombing with 13 FBI agents infiltrating Elholm City Oklahoma. Carol Howe, one of the infiltrators ratted out the FBI infiltration and disappeared forever. Suspect number 2, a rouge agent who planned the bombings was never brought in. It was Eric Holder who came in and disappeared evidence forever.
I was there so not the cleaned up official vision from here. This glaring idiocy of Janet Reno's operation caused the Star investigation on Bill Clinton for his sex life as the special prosecuted law which was brought about from the Teapot Dome Scandal had expired so she cobbled together a policy and threw Clinton under the bus to cover up.

They refused to acknowledge the pleading mother a couple blocks over who had reported a man attempted to kidnap her daughter in nearly the same circumstances as JonBenét’s. Her daughter screamed and he took off. This happened just days before JonBenét died. Police also claimed footprints were never found in the snow but there wasn’t any snow and DNA was found on her body that did not belong to anyone in the home. They can never go back and fix this. Her poor mother died of cancer before being officially cleared by Boulder PD.

@@backdoorletsdothis I hope you're not referring to me as a "race baiter". And yes, what those police officers did to Rodney King was completely illegal, and a disgusting abuse of power, thus making it a crime. Not to mention how this act of racially charged barbarism caused a number of subsequent crimes in its wake. Think of the brutal assault on Reggie Denny, which was also a racially motivated crime of retaliation. Think of all the crimes committed from the LA Riots that followed afterwards....Assault, vandalism, theft, arson, disorderly conduct... I think most anyone even remotely familiar with the law would consider any one of those a crime. Yes, as I've already ascertained that the initial set of unfortunate events was racially motivated (I mean, there are few things in this world that are less obvious than that! 😆) but the aftermath expediently became the catalyst of a public outcry for basic human rights; Which everyone single one of us deserves, regardless of race, creed, or religion. But to think this important event in 90's history was an attempt to bait others into a racially motivated, often heated, exchange of comments; and to also act unapologetically accusatory, is just pure naivety on your part; Not to mention blatant strife mongering, and admittedly somewhat trollish behavior, in and of itself. So many people in Canada are still disgusting by the plea bargain Karla received (pleading Guilty to two counts of Manslaughter in exchange for testifying against her husband Paul Bernardo and receiving a twelve year prison sentence) which is referred to as "a deal with the Devil." I remember the Oklahoma City bombing so vividly. I was 10 years old and on Spring Break at my grandparent’s bed and breakfast in the Florida Keys. Normally the grandkids were not allowed inside when the guests were in there for breakfast or brunch. But bc of the bombing, we were in the main house watching on tv. I will never forget the baby being carried out of the rubble. It was horrific. Though I remember all of the others as well, but less so the ones in the very early years of the decade, having been born in 1985.

Ruining lives. Not. Remember all these well. Was staying at the hotel the Selena was killed in when I was busted in a police raid while my uncle was trying to get some crack. I remember coming home from school, and seeing what was happening in Oklahoma City. I was terrified. I didn’t understand. I thought maybe my dad was in danger at work. I packed a bag with my favorite doll and some of my favorite books, and sat in the living room until he got home, unsure of what to do. This was before cell phones, so I couldn’t just call my parents at work. Looking back, I was so innocent. I was 12, and I packed a doll and some books just in case. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking. But I remember that afternoon.
