So powerful that it can sometimes supersede even our own symptoms.
I'd like to watch this with my partner, English isn't her first language, if subtitles could be enabled, it would be really great. It takes some with the settings, but allows a bigger audience to follow along.
@mikhoward I apologize for not having the subs. Unfortunately, TH-cam and I do not have a good relationship with each other. The auto-subs they generate are not of a high enough quality for a video on mental health (too many important mistakes). On my more recent videos you will find subtitles. I was paying out of pocket for subtitles and translations for a while, hoping that donations would eventually be able to cover the costs of those. Unfortunately, that never happened either. If, in the future, I am able to afford to have accurate subtitles created, I will go back through and add them to all of my videos. Thank you for your understanding.

🤣😂🤣😂😒Fuck. I never put together the common thread of these movies, some of them are my favorites. I was already relating when we got to the prolonged (but beautiful!) shower exit in 'As Good As It Gets' but then the prolonged (but perfect!) bedtime ritual scene from 'Turner and Hooch' really got me! (Inner thought: how has anyone ever lived with me?!?! - oh, yeah, right- they haven't. And I blame them! justkiddingjustkiddingjustkidding) You've sparked my childhood memories of absolutely adoring and identifying with Tom Hanks' character in that movie, which just startled me into realizing - this is not something that has been going on in my life for a long time, this is me, this is who I am and who I always have been. I don't know what to do with that information, but I have it now! I guess, just be easier with myself as I continue to navigate my way through life. I found your videos because I thought I was doing okay, then - enter a close relationship with someone I care about - and I heard you mention it before, my obsessive-compulsive behaviors (I don't like the word disorder, though it fits my thinking perfectly) became inflamed. I am tired of starting over, over and over again and the common denominator in my relationships is ME, so now, I am at how to improve myself in order to improve my relationships. It's nice to see I am not alone in the struggle. Thanks for the videos. I subscribed because this isn't the first one I've watched and I truly appreciate your sharing, but I just don't want to get notifications. P.S. I am also oblivious to how inconvenient my rigidity to my own cleanliness standards can be. How does one cut a shower short? How does one not put everything in it's place before going to bed or leaving the house? I don't know how to be different!
Massage Attack loved your comment. I don't see a lot of humor in my comments section. Thanks for giving some insight as to what you're going through and what prompted you to make some online searches for the things happening in your life. I found that information very helpful. Turner & Hooch is a classic and I felt a connection to Tom Hanks character as a kid and the movie never really left my consciousness. Although Tom Hanks rarely makes a dud in my opinion. At least back in the day anyway. No worries on the not getting notifications. I just want to make sure those that actually want to see my content are aware when there's something new. I get messages asking when I'm releasing new videos after I've just released something new and so I know that TH-cam is notoriously bad at recommending the content that people actually want to see. You mention wanting to improve your relationship and also navigating your rigidity. Obviously for anyone that messages me or leaves me a comment, the first place I direct them to is a mental health professional. So many different angles that this can be tackled from. But if you'd like to try some techniques beforehand, I do have a challenge on my website that I modified and use myself with some very good results. Only really works if you keep going with it, but maybe it's worth checking out for yourself.
@@OCPD_supportYay! I always worry that my humor will either be considered inappropriate or go unrecognized, so thanks! Thanks, I downloaded the worksheet, so now I have something to live for. News to me, there are people who can take 10 minute showers. I even know a few, turns out. I thought to make that one of my goals, but the stress it causes me to even think how that's possible leads me to believe that one is just not for me right now. 10 minutes!?!? I really wanted to watch, I had to stop at 3:12. Heres why. The lock scene is 100% OCD and not OCPD. A total of 5 clicks on the lock; 3 clicks to lock + 2 clicks to unlock. Same mannerisms as the light switch. Best of luck.
Pete LaQuaglia thanks for at least trying. You should note that I say that 'the first scene depicts two mannerisms that could be tied to OCPD'. I do not say that his actions in the scene are those of someone with OCPD. I'm inferring that in general someone with OCPD may be inclined to check locks multiple times and be able to rationalize it in their heads, whereas a person would not be able to do the same thing with turning lights on and off. As you point out, because he is doing things in sets of 5 this would not be a symptom of OCPD.
OCPD: My Life In Debris Oh, that can be dangerous. I can only assume that you are self aware of dealing with OCPD. Most who know never talk in open about it. Kudos

Hello guys, I really liked the video, and I need to come up with a recent film (last 5 years) with a character that displays OCPD but has not explicitly been diagnosed with it. Anyone know of any films?
Did you consider Sheldon Cooper from friends? I feel like he would be near blue print for OCPD, but he also has a lot of OCD traits. Thoughts? Also Dexter?
Anthony Kist I've never watched the show with the character Sheldon. Some people have told me he likely is supposed to have OCPD or OCD or both. But as I've never seen it, I couldn't really comment on it. I've only seen one or two episodes of Dexter, but there were definitely some symptoms I could see someone reading into.

Hi! I know this is a strange place to ask this question, but I want to get some genuine opinions. I'm writing a script for a musical that involves one of the characters having OCD. I want to portray the illness in a more accurate way than a lot of what Hollywood does, but there are a few questions I have. Would it be considered to you offensive if I were to cast an actor that doesn't have OCD to play the role? Or would it be offensive to you if an actor with OCD were to play if their symptoms of it were less prominent? I'm specifically looking for input from people with OCD, so if you are someone who has it, please leave me some feedback. You are loved! And beautiful. Thanks so much
LivLyfe thanks for your comment/questions. Before I answer I want to make clear that this is a channel for OCPD not OCD. Although there are some crossover symptoms, they are two very different things. In fact, most portrayals of people with OCD in film have usually been inaccurate and that's partly because they've combined the two disorders and sometimes they sprinkle in some additional elements from other disorders as well. As far as actors, they are paid to act. The idea of only people with the exact traits of the characters they are portraying is illogical and I don't understand the motivation behind it. The part should go to the best actor for the part. But if you're writing a character with OCD, I would highly recommend having a few people with OCD read through the final script to check for accuracy. Or even hire an OCD consultant. But nobody has ever gotten the disorder correct before, so if you do a good job, you'd be the first.
@@OCPD_support Thank you so much for the reply. Diagnosed with OCD, what does that mean? Well, gather 'round.
That means I obsessively obsess on things I think about
That means I might take a normal thought and think it's so profound
Ruminating, fill balloons up full of doubts
Do the same things; if I don't, I'm overwhelmed
Thoughts are pacing; they go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's so draining; let's move onto something else
Monica Geller on Friends, Sheldon on Big, bang, theory, and Bree on Desperate Housewives are other examples. You can use these movies, too!
elham Stn thanks for the additions :)
Yes Monica Geller. :)
alodia4448 classic Monica ;)
Would disagree on Shelton but the other two are great additions
Shelton is more Aspergers. Which has a lot of similarities.
😂 I think I really need to go back and see my psychologist. He gave me tasks to perform to diminish my behaviors but when I saw that jacket the waiter was going to give him, I literally screamed...like i prefer to go back home and eat something from my fridge and call it a night. Ain't no way i could ever🤦♀️. I may not be the neatest there is as there are different levels/severity of it. Esp. if im depressed i get to be somewhat lackadaisical to even pic up my study notes from my bed. But it doesn't mean it doesnt bother me. I would probably go to my cousin's room just to try and diminish the thoughts of it. But if i can't, i have to clean it. But it is hard to do so, when all you want to do is craddle up in bed. I may not have a problem with what i have because it just seems like what needs to be done and i also like being alone to avoid problems, but i am willing to try because it is affecting others around me.
RCPMusic I'm glad you're willing to try. Although you may think it's for those around you, if you do succeed it will lead to a much happier life. I understand the 'levels" thing as well. It's interesting that at times, others think they are part-time therapists and try and deduce things from how we treat our environment. But depression is powerful.
So much Tom Hanks! We can include the director of the Polar Express, Lord Business from the Lego Movie and Chuck Noland from Cast Away.

And I blame them! justkiddingjustkiddingjustkidding)
You've sparked my childhood memories of absolutely adoring and identifying with Tom Hanks' character in that movie, which just startled me into realizing - this is not something that has been going on in my life for a long time, this is me, this is who I am and who I always have been.
This is the first time I have left a comment on anything, as I have no social media pages (though I might want a Instagram soon), so it's a relief to think I chose the right audience.
Thanks, I downloaded the worksheet, so now I have something to live for. (I really enjoy reading your writings, but I need to let you know- that article has a paragraph that is repeated, before and after one of Ben's quotes! Sorry!/you're welcome?)
News to me, there are people who can take 10 minute showers. I even know a few, turns out. I thought to make that one of my goals, but the stress it causes me to even think how that's possible leads me to believe that one is just not for me right now. 10 minutes!?!? (Inner thoughts too judgemental to post :/ )
Your humor and the fact that apparently we are peers, both help me relate and be receptive to the information in your videos. If you didn't make me laugh, I couldn't be an active listener.
Thank you!
@@massageattack8273 thank you so much for spotting the error in the article. I have no idea how I could have done that. But I spent forever formatting that page and somehow I copied and pasted that paragraph from my original document twice. I didn't spot it at first because they didn't have the same final sentence in the paragraph. But I'm very grateful for the opportunity to fix my mistake.
My girlfriend and I were discussing my shower time the other day and we timed me and I think I was at 13 or 14 minutes. So I'm not hitting the 10 minute marker either. I'm guessing there's a lot of people walking around with some parts that aren't quite clean, haha.
Glad you see some humor in my videos. I try to put some in, but it's a challenge with the seriousness of the subject matter. Thanks for watching!
@@OCPD_support My default money-making skill set has long been preparing legal documents, so I am almost drawn to errors in writing just to fix them. Glad you just want to fix it, too, hopefully you don't think I'm the asshole I feel like I am for pointing it out.
I've shared a few of your videos with my partner and afterward I complained that he never speaks up when I take forever. He just says, yeah, he's always ready to go, but he understands that I need to do certain things to be comfortable and now I feel like he's an enabler. I mentioned for instance that I carry my own utensils and his response is, "Well, that's what you're comfortable with...". Yeah, but it makes others feel weird to be around me! So, that was the first habit I wrote down and like a knee-jerk today at lunch, I got my own bowl and fork, made a salad and sat down with the chart and took a bite and was like, ah, fuck- 'x'.
Looks like this will be an excellent opportunity to be gentle with myself as I hold myself accountable for my behaviors.
Thanks again for sharing tools and information!

heartone34 thank you so much for watching.
I think another good example might be Amy from Brooklyn 99! 😊
Dutchess thanks for the addition. I'll have to check out the show. I'm familiar with it, but I've only seen a couple of episodes.
@@OCPD_support She very well demonstrates the need for knowledge, perfectionism, constant need for validation (to keep up with the perfectionism) and the need for planning and organizing things! :)
I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me with something. In your opinion, would you describe the Zoe Chow character in the Canadian TV series Private Eyes as having OCPD? She doesn't show up until S02E02 and is in subsequent episodes. Thanks!
jillhbaudhaan I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the show. I'll see if I can find a clip on TH-cam or somewhere to download an episode. I'm in Asia so I don't have easy access to western television. If I find something I'll let you know. Thanks for watching.
I took into account what you said. i will check out more videos, thanks for doing this.
Pete LaQuaglia I genuinely appreciate critiques of my content.
OCPD: My Life In Debris Oh, that can be dangerous. I can only assume that you are self aware of dealing with OCPD. Most who know never talk in open about it. Kudos
How about Dolores Jane Umbridge from Harry Potter 5 and 7?
Toastmas I'm sadly not familiar with Harry Potter. I've seen the first three films and that's as far as my knowledge goes. But I will seek out some clips of this character as you've piqued my curiosity.

Kelly Evans it almost sounds like an intervention is needed. Does he have family he is close to? Are they aware of the problem? I have a video coming out this Tuesday or Wednesday (it's been a while since I've released a video), and I think the material might be helpful or at least informational. As far as what's happening in your situation, it is a highly unusual behavior. I've heard of people with OCPD not being able to enjoy films or television because they only see mistakes. But this is the first time I'm hearing about someone watching to specifically find the mistakes.
Hi! Did you read People of lie (Scott Peck's view of evil people). Their are one patient with OCD George (i don't think he's evil at all) and weird patient Charlene (Peck diagnosed her with OCD and most evil patient ever). I'm so curious did she have OCPD as well (she had some *autistic* traits and mild schizophrenia maybe as Peck says but it's an old book so it have some outdated teories). If your interested and read it let me know i'm quet curious to hear your opinion.
Aurora Dijana I've not read it, but it sounds like an interesting fictional case study. I'll add it to the list and let you know what I think.
Hello guys, I really liked the video, and I need to come up with a recent film (last 5 years) with a character that displays OCPD but has not explicitly been diagnosed with it. Anyone know of any films?
Miguel Torres I have not seen the film yet, but I've been told that the main character in 'The Accountant' displays OCPD traits.
MOMMIE dearest
Aren't rituals supposued to be an ocd syptom instedad of an ocpd one ?
@darcynataliabermudezangulo rituals can be a part of OCPD as well. But the motivation behind them differs.
@@OCPD_support I think you could probably watch 3 or 4 episodes of the first season and have enough info to make the call ngl. It's a central theme to his character so it's not subtle.
And yes dexter I reckon could I'm glad you agree
@@anubisgod23 I probably should have watched Dexter. It seemed like something I would enjoy. But I don't get to watch a lot of tv, and when I have time, I tend to spend it on TH-cam.
I've seen a few additional characters here and there that for sure could have been characterized as having OCPD. But they are always villainized beyond caricature. And although the symptoms paint us in a bad light, we're not evil.
@@OCPD_support fair enough! If you ever get the chance take it :)

@SReginaSmallo-0 I agree. It's completely illogical. At the start of a relationship, a more self-aware person might be able to mask some of their OCPD traits, but you wouldn't be able to fake a completely different person.

I know that there is a distinct difference between OCPD and OCD, I just thought there would be some people in the comment section with OCD that could help me out. Chlink Ink I know. So frustrating. It was off when I edited it but it was too subtle to notice. It became worse after uploading and I never caught it until someone mentioned the problem on another video. It turned out to be a common issue in the software I was using and I have since been able to fix the problem for my newer videos. So it won't be happening anymore. But it is incredibly annoying that most of my original videos are all a little out of sync.
OCPD: My Life In Debris I haven’t noticed other videos being out of sync. It must be very subtle. I haven’t watched many of your videos yet. You do make some great videos, though. Your hard work does show.
@@chlinkink7433 Thanks. I feel as though the information becomes easier to digest and more interesting to learn the better I become at making the videos dynamic.
OCPD: My Life In Debris I have a question for you. I’ve watched your first 4 videos now and I heard you say that it became more difficult for you than you expected. How is it going for you now? Have you found it cathartic? Helpful?
Chlink Ink are you referring to making the videos? I still find them tough to get right. I don't necessarily feel as uncomfortable on camera as I did in the beginning. But I know that still very little of my actual personality comes through. The more often I film the more engaging I think I become, but I still have a long ways to go. The videos are mildly cathartic, but I really do like the fact that they hold me to do the things I say I'm going to do. They keep me in check and that's a good thing.
