The photograph of the game at Gigg Lane was between Bury and Newcastle United played on the 18th. of October 1947 Newcastle winning 5-3 before a crowd of 23,827. Jackie Milburn scored a hat trick for the Magpies, their other two goals being from Len Shackleton and an own goal. The players in the photograph are from left to right, Bury centre half Bill Griffiths, Newcastle centre forward Jackie Milburn with his back to the camera, Newcastle centre half Frank Brennan facing the camera, Bury keeper George Bradshaw being carried off with a broken leg following a collision with Jackie Milburn, Bury winger Don Carter, Bury captain Les Hart leaning forward and Bury Left half David Jones with his back to the camera.
Bury is Shithole now. Such a shame. I Visited a friend there recently, everywhere is neglected, overgrown weeds on pavements and footpaths.. Roads are better in Romania. The Local council must be all Junkies..
love these photos of my home town
Brilliant. Loved this.
That's my town. It's changed so much in the last 40 odd years.
I live in the next town, Bolton.

Sorry folks but I made a slight error regarding the above photo. The Bury left half with number six on his back is Reg Halton not David Jones.
Was born there Jericho Hospital,(re named now 🤔)Remember all the old cinemas I revisit twice a year, when visiting family
Fairfield?
Think so 🤔
Please tell me where you found these pictures. I think my grandparents are in one of the pictures at 0:50 crossing the road
Hi Emma. I found a bunch of old photos at ByGone Times near Chorley a few years back and the photo you mentioned was one of them.
