- Bury - a town which expanded and grew rapidly in Victorian times - one of the cotton towns of Lancashire - a look at some of the buildings erected in that time and which are still standing - familiar to the over 50's - but often with a change of use, ownership or identity - blending into the new Bury instead of fighting for dominance and recognition in the old.
More pubs than people! Enjoyed thanks.
I was born in Bury in 1947 and lived there for 21 years, the last 10 of those years in the large house opposite the "Sundial Hotel" on Walmersley Rd. It was a typical northern working class town, I was part of the line up of school kids presented to the queen when they opened the new town hall, I remember it rained..... lol The Two Tubs was often our meeting place on Friday/Saturday nights before we left for a pub crawl ( Those where the days when you could drive home afterwards ).. I was one of the first students at The Derby School and then went on to attend Bury Tech while working at Bramwell Prestons, my final Job in the area was running the Shell petrol station on Brandlesholme Rd opposite the "Old Duke" pub.
I have lived in Canada the last 40 yrs, but always visit the old town on my return trips, so these picture bring back many memories.. Thanks
I use to live off Walmersly Road near the Sundial Pub but at the Back, a bit further up near Chesham Primary School I also went to Derby High School
Thank you! I have been gone a long time but have popped back very occasionally. What a great memory jogger! The best market by far and the best meat pies in the world. Makes me wonder why I left.
I lived Ln willow St. Went to East ward school Ln the nineteen fifties it would. Be great. To see Alan Roberts or Ken Whitfield Adrian. Holt or bomber kershaw lm David greenhalgh I was the goalkeeper in school team do you remember those school dinners.

Thank u so much. I lived in Bury & attended All Saints School. On my first return to England I recognized the Art & Odeon Theatres, probably bcs u remember what was playing at that time. Thanks so much. You did a great job.
I've been living on the south coast since 2016. Great looking back, you forgot a photo of Castle Leisure centre!
Brillant video clips. Lovely Bury and some memories
Thank you, My visit to Bury was awsome, Many of my photos did not turn out, no video equpment, Was at Bury Castle for filming of Coranation Street, WoW Wish we could get it in the USA
It seems that things have changed since I last lived there, 30+ years ago I left that town & lots have changed since then. I have to say though as much as these films are nice to watch I would never go back, it has changed so much & lets say its been taken over by the kind of people that no decent person would like to associate with, but it was still nice for memories.
Lancashire is wonderful.
Bury Is Great! The Land Of The Mighty Shakers!
Bury Still has the best outdoor and indoor markets. By the way, the music? It`s Hooked on Classics right? A popular music range from K-TEL in the late 70`s early 80`s? Bonkers, but I remember it fondly always playing inside Boots.
I moved away well over 28 years ago & although I would never move back or even felt like I may want to move back. This vid did bring back a few memories, one place I lived while in Bury was in the last house in Tenterden St next to the train lines, this house you can see in your vid. Ah well memories are just that, they are in the past, it gave me a nice smile but nothing more. Good by Bury.
Thanks for your message and kind comments - glad you enjoyed - St Marie's ( along with Mr Turner, Miss Lord, Miss Winterhalter et al ) has disappeared from the Bury scene - St Gabriels I went to for a year - looks small now.
I lived in Bury from my birth in 1960 until 1988, I liked it in the 60s and 70s, not as keen now though
Best market town in the U.K.,just love my yearly return there,(born there )

Now starring in Scott & Bailey!
haven't lived in bury for about 15 years
Terrific place to live , up to about 2000. Not so sure now , as there are too many in-comers . Football club needs an honest owner , for a change.
Well said Shaker, Bury is in Greater Manchester and one of the most important suburban boroughs that belongs to our great city of Manchester.
Is therev a town in the country that isnt
Nice film, I think the New Rock is a monstrosity, and I think the Odeon has been knocked down now. I would do one of these for Radcliffe but Bury council have knocked most of it down or run it down. I am from Bury by the way, well I say Bury, Unsworth up yon....
Bury, definitely one of the best towns in Greater Manchester, it hasn’t been in Lancashire since 1974.
why make bury look good wen it is bob
wow 2:37 thats my schools church ^_^
Agreed Bury is great, Bury is Greater Manchester and hasn't been Lancashire for years, get this changed. Bury is Greater Manchester!
