    That brought back some memories.Jumping on and off the tractor all day is tiring in itself.I like the way you attacked the job, ie the sequence.

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! My goodness was it tiring! When I checked out the job in the first place, I didn't look too closely at the sheer volume of wood involved in the tree. Each stump had 12 tops. Thanks a lot!

    Excellent video! And what a bunch of great lumber! Really like some of your camera angles on the tractor. Well done!

      Thank you very much! That one log probably has 1500 feet in it!
      I am digging that kiln of yours. That will be so nice to have dry lumber. It'll cook in there!

      Thanks! Sometimes I wish I had a bigger rig or even a skidder but the versatility of this old rig makes the extra time completely worth it.

      Which model 601 series is your Ford tractor? I am looking at a 641 that has a loader on it already.

    • @slhasebroock
      @slhasebroock 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind I see it at the end, 57 641!!! Cool!

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! You will not be disappointed in this tractor. Wild amounts of power. Infact, I pulled a stuck F450 out a swampy field today that was stuck up to its axels. Check out if it had a counter weight on it and if the counter weight was suspended in a locked position or just always lifted with the 3 point hitch, because unless it was locked up, it is a good way to wear out the seals and hydraulic pump in those old rigs. Let me know if you end up getting it.

    • @slhasebroock
      @slhasebroock 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Wow sounds like a WORKHORSE!!! He has weights on the wheels and the weights come with it. He says oil pressure is good, everything works says the loader works well. Tires Good, Oh and has power steering. Only negatives he mentions are smokes a little and left rear rim needs to be replaced as rusted through in one spot. Wants $2,800.00 for it. Thank you for the advice!

    That logging winch is an amazing bit of machinery but it pales in comparison to your editing. I may have to borrow your technique of running real-time audio under sped-up film. what an awesome effect!

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is the kind of comment that makes the endless hours in front of the screen totally worth it! Thank you so much. Yes, please! I highly encourage anyone to use whatever style things they see or hear in my videos. I since I got that Rode mic, I have found that the quality of the audio I am capturing is great, and it seems a shame to buzz it away in a blur. I detach the audio and scan through looking for appropriate clips that I think might work, and often layer them over one another. Birds and ambient and whatnot. Thanks again.

    Long before the term prepper my father told me. Get a farm and be self sustainable because within the next 30 years you are going to be faced with a collapse. He went on to say these countries can't keep spending more money then they are making and not expect to end up in trouble. This was just about 30 years ago. At the time I had a good job in the city and kind of dismissed what he said. I wish he was alive today to tell him that he was bang on. Recently retired and I started homesteading/logging with the goal of self reliant. My initiatives which can be seen on my channel.

  • @willd2609
    @willd2609 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gosh you work hard. Did you salvage any lumber for the mill? Will we get to see? :D

    • @BusHuxley
      @BusHuxley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will! That was quite a job of work, but once I set to doing it, I was uneasy until it was done. Which, it isn't quite yet! That massive log is still out there and I was waiting for a friend and his front end loader to put it on my car trailer and take it to some mill that can handle wood that large. I have a couple options. And of course it'll be here, all parts of it. Thanks for the comment. Glad to see you.

    • @Stevie671
      @Stevie671 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bus,try this.Place lateral skids under the log.Sever the trunk at the base beginning with five eighths top cut and finishing with bottom cut to meet.With a bar larger than half the diameter do a ripping cut longitudinally.Flip log on skids with tractor and repeat ripping cut on top.Halved log will still be good for milling and will be easier to handle. You've probably considered this but that's how I used to do it.cheers.

      @@BusHuxley Bus, I believe the 134 cu. in. engine in a 6XX Ford gas tractor is rated at 34 HP, and the 172 cu. in. engine in a 8XX Ford gas tractor is rated at either 42 or 44, depending on the size of the carb (a bigger carb was fitted to the 8X1 than the 8X0). Is your tractor modified to produce more power?
