I don’t know how it’s possible but his voice has actually gotten better with age and this performance was pure magic.
Actually, his voice is better here because it's gone deeper and huskier
On his case, aging helped. His voice got thicker, he lost his soft falsetto, but his normal voice pitch got intense and kinda got higher. He used to be sounded like a pop singer. Now he sounded like a world class singer.
He has a very gentle way of singing, so can't imagine he's put he's voice under any kind of unnecessary stress over the years.

The hot guys at 2:19 weren't even born when this song was released!! The cross-cultural and cross-generational reach of this very personal song speaks for itself.
