Mid to late 70's Lynn Swann was a high-flying poetry in motion receiver...one of a kind...and then JJ came along and was that PLUS something else!! It can't be described. He was just different! Easily my favourite receiver
I started watching the NFL when I was 8 in 1981. So I only remember him in Green Bay. I wish I was old enough to have seen him from 77-80 when he tore up the league ! But even as a kid I knew he was the real deal !;
i watched His Whole Entire Career .. John Jefferson , Charlie Joiner , Kellen Winslow Chuck Munice, James Brooks an Dan Fouts Might have been the Greatest Offense Ever to Play in the Nfl .
John Jefferson! In my opinion, the greatest receiver to ever play the game. He Winslow and fouts are why I became a charger fan back then and still am to this day.
John Jefferson! In my opinion the biggest disappointment in Nfl History as far as digression. I mean he averaged 12 touchdowns a season in his first 3 years. He was putting up epic numbers. 11 touchdowns in his last 5 seasons & retired at 29?? So sad I believe one of the greatest mistakes in the NFL when he went to the Packers & never fit in to the offense. What might have been if he only remained a Charger!
If he only could have worked out the contract nonsense, he goes into the HOF with Fouts. He was the best WR in football for a few years and that only broke because he mistakenly went to GB. Just sad He remains my favorite WR of all time, despite his short period of greatness
Yay! You updated the greatest WR ever! You should have won an Emmy the way that you edited this with the music and all! Perfect songs at just the right moment that fit J.J. and the era! I get so hyped over this!
I used to play catch with him at Bonnie View swimming pool in dallas, texas, no matter how hard you threw him the ball - he could catch it with one hand
where they practice in high school the football field had snakes everywhere because the creek nearby overflowed after a good rain, can you imagine catching football in a park like this used as a practice field in high school?@@pleasebeinteresting
very small hands but they gripped it like nothing i have ever seen in my life, disposed of the notion that a receiver has to have big hands@@pleasebeinteresting
I vividly remember the end of the 1980 season when John Jefferson tried to renegotiate his contract with the Chargers but then owner Gene Klein (a "skin flint") was so upset that he traded Jefferson to Green Bay. SD QB Dan Fouts has said that after Jefferson left the Charger offense (although still good) really wasn't the same again
the body control, ball tracking, one hand grabs and jump ball ability he showcased was insane … it’s criminal how underrated he is. wish i had access to more of his route running ability since it’s hard to tell from strictly highlights
This dude was awesome, and should be in the hall in Canton Ohio. Great coverage of the old NFL days were you got hit it was like a car accident and no yellow flag. Players never missed the next play. It was truly a brutal game you signed up for. And J J never wore gloves, now that's old school tuff as nails pro football entertainment for all of us to witnesses today from yester years gone bye.
Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I like the uniforms from back then. The sleeves of the jerseys didn’t have elastic in them and were longer than they are today. Pants were over the knees. And JJ wasn’t wearing gloves! I also like the Charger helmets better than I do the current ones. Also, the players didn’t look like walking billboards with tattoos all over their arms.
As a kid, I love this guy. I think San Diego did him wrong. Did him dirty sending him off to Green Bay wasted talent after that. The packers didn’t know how to use him. Shift them out and got West Chandler. Wish I would’ve saw this post when it came out two years ago that guy was awesome though.
I was a young fan during his career. While with the Chargers he was on all the highlight reels every week, when he went to the Packers it was like he fell off the face of the earth.

@ 2:32 that one handed catch of a Fouts rocket is the best catch I've ever seen in the NFL
The greatest
One of the greatest of all time
Theme song: Strings In Bondage.
For three years he was thee greatest Wr ive ever seen.

And don't forget that great Offensive Line too
@@KevinBarry-j8w Wes Chandler was Bad too
@user-ys2wp4cr9g You are right ! All five linemen were capable of playing in the pro bowl

What hands!!!! Those one handed catches against Cincinnati and Oakland were unreal!!!
he had very small hands too but they were strong and any thing came near, when he catch a football he gripped it, weirdest thing i ever saw
No gloves ever.
In my personal opinion the most exciting receiver of all time !
The Great (John Jefferson) !
randy moss type of thing

I remember him at Arizona State, best hands ever

All time great so underrated JJ was one of my idols 🙌🏼
Love your channel , very nostalgic AF

You had me until the tatoos. Who really cares?

The best
Growing up in San Diego during the Air Coryell years, I once saw a super cool license plate: 1428347
I was a young fan during his career. While with the Chargers he was on all the highlight reels every week, when he went to the Packers it was like he fell off the face of the earth.
I wonder what JJ is doing these days
He's living in a van down by the river.
14:47 Greg Koch tries to high-five Jefferson, but Jefferson ignores him and runs right past him to high-five Lofton.
I never heard the announcers mention his speed but he seemed very fast. If it's 4.4 it's like 4.40. If he ran 4.39 it wouldn't surprise me.
Lock down John Jefferson not on your best day he was lendendary
Roosevelt HS Dallas,TX John Jefferson before Jerry Rice
San Diego aka Air Coryell.Best offense in the era. They had weapons galore.Fouts JJ Joiner Muncie Winslow Sr Chandler. The San Diego Chicken too 😆
But then he was traded to Green Bay, and completely disappeared as predicted by Lester Hayes of the Raiders.
What a joke! Jefferson paired with James Lofton! He was 50% of the player he was with the Chargers. Because he never fit in to that offense.
