I really love your style and the information in these. :) Plus, you think outside of the box and make things I wouldn't have even thought of. Horray!

We'd always take pumpkins and after gutting and cutting we'd roast it with brown sugar and butter. The skin becomes soft and lovely.

You remind me so much of my old ochem professor. He'd always say add a bit of "x" and proceed to pour WAY more than any of us would have 😂😂
That baby is too cute too!

Can use a pumpkin that is particularly green?
And when do you seal the wine?

Hi James, enjoying your videos... I don't see the recipe you mention... Could you point me the way of it please?

Thank you for pointing this out to us :) We had overlooked publishing the recipe! I've added the link to the description, and here it is :) www.happyhomestead.co.uk/pumpkinwine.html

You'll be glad to know I'm sure that I just got on with it anyway and did my own thing. Your video gave me the confidence though so thanks again... I note you've put cloves in the recipe (they weren't in the vid)... So I added some ground cloves today before pitching my yeast...

Love your sweater!!! Loved the “decent sprinkle” of cinnamon too! 😂 those bananas look disgusting though! Mmmm honey! I’ll have to try this sometime!

Im making a 5.5 gallon batch of this....RIGHT NOW! Friend did you back sweeten this at all? If not was it sweet anyway? I see there is a lot of sugars and am wondering if the yeast ate enough of the sugars in the time you let it sit in the fermenter.
    Was it dry?
I am asking cause of how much I'm using.
Im.looking at almost 24.5 lbs of sugar (11.11 KG) with honey. 12 bananas and about 5 pumpkins

Can u put up a 5 gallon recipe or make a video on how to make 5 gallons of this pumpkin wine. It looks great and I'd like to make a 5 gallon batch.

Just multiply x5. It should work fine

Can you use pureed pumpkin if your grocery store is out of regular pumpkins?

  • @Alternativesmallholding
    @Alternativesmallholding 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

James - I was undecided on whether to make pumpkin, or banana next - a friend suggested a combo of both...
In my head (or mouth) this tastes yummy - but is there any reason this wouldn’t work?
I’m a very new brewer but I do like an experiment.

Pumpkin and banana does sound like a real winner! I would say equal amounts of pumpkins to bananas would be a good balance :) Experimenting is all part of the fun of homebrewing!
Do let us know how it goes!

Happy Homestead I was thinking 50/50 would work, off I go to procure a load of bananas!
We have some good hefty pumpkins/squash from last year to use up, so I may do the mix, and straight pumpkin too.

were you sipping a glass of wine at the end there, or are you still building up a wine cellar after your move? It would be great to see some tasting videos as you seem to make such an incredible array of wines!

I’ve come to this great recipe unfortunately after pumpkin season. Is it possible to make with tinned pumpkin purée? (Next year I will do it properly with fresh pumpkin)

Where are you guys located? Pumpkins are a lot easier to carve than turnips! That's absolutely fascinating. I very much enjoy pumpkin ale. Interested to try pumpkin wine! Congrats on the new baby

Hello :) I have never really found the need for campden tablets, I try to keep things as simple (and additive free) if I can

I know you left the skin on for this, but here's my tip video for getting the flesh out if you're interested (I'd like to see some videos of you bottling/trying your wines BTW. I always wonder how they turn out)

This recipe is not as great as I hoped... I noticed that your written recipe said to use cloves but this video doesn't, but I went with your written recipe so that I could refer back to it easier. A 'good shake' of all of those spices was way too many and unspecific - my brew tastes like rocket fuel! I suspect that the cloves are what's giving the extra kick (I used 4 for 1 gallon - this sounded appropriate for 'a good shake'), but I'm not sure. I'm aging a few bottles to see if time helps, but otherwise it'll be a sad mixer to have with hot apple juice.
I love your attitude and style so will keep watching, but please be more specific with your measurements especially when using spices. It would be great to have more consistency between the video recipe and the written one linked in the description (e.g. cloves in the link, but not the video), but I understand as you say that the brewer should use whichever spices they fancy!
