Jussapitka to make the shape of the number, they do so by etching the glass. Instead of etching a full number, it was etched with dots. Also, Nixie tubes don’t have dots as they use a solid plate for the numbers.
Contrary to popular belief, the indicators are not nixie tubes. They are actually edge-lit incandescent. Nixie tubes are neon tubes with an anode grate and specially shaped cathodes to form the numbers. They are run on DC so the anode grate does not light up.
Nixie Tubes are simply filaments that glow when the gas inside them is excited, but held low enough to only light up where the number needed to be lit is.
There are a couple of these not too far from me that had these exact same nixie tube indicators. It’s been a year or so, I’ll have to see if they still work.
Yay you finally found an Otis with a working Nixie indicator!
thewildeeper I helped him find these
These are edge lit, not nixie tube. Many people make this misconception.
atomicjellydragon I don't these they're edge lit either. Why would edge lit displays have those dots?

The first one was really cool bc the buttons had white LEDs. That is rare for a lexan.
Nice, those indicators are getting very rare.
These are amazing! In fact, I found two OTIS Lexan elevators like this yesterday! Too bad both of them didn’t have working indicators, though.
Otis Lexan in almost perfect condition in a parking garage! Awesome!

This is a very nice elevator, pretty neat how the floor indicator works
That's neat! I don't think I've seen LED's in Lexan buttons either...
You founded a very nice elevator with that indicator

That's not a nixie. Nixies have continuous cathode wires and a visible anode grid. These are probably side/bottom illuminated plastic sheets.
What location is this?

Nice elevators indeed. And those nixie indicators are amazing, as is the motor (reminds of Dover elevators from that era)
CubsRule2040 I originally found these
these are in amazing condition!
Jowevator 3219 I helped him find these I have a video of these elevators
These are in very good condition!

Ok
Blue lights in the buttons
These were installed in 1973
I guess the lights in the buttons are replacements of the original lights
but in the second lift the inside ones weren't replaced
It’s a Nixie tube.
NIce indicators. Shame indicators with flip numbers are nearly impossible....

Floor numbering is strange...
