If you want one that is even cooler (Well, not outfitted with electronics, still old school), the Soudan underground mine in Tower Minnesota still operates theirs for tours. It goes down at a slant and also has two levels to the car. The depth of the mine is 2,341 feet.
Actually, you are inside the cage, attached to the hoist via a wire rope or set of ropes. At 600 fpm, it's relatively slow but it travels only 650 feet (relatively shallow). When you've ridden on a double deck cage with 50 people per deck, you've been someplace big.
I hear that two tone chime and all I can think of is the chimes they supposedly have for the New York subway, reminding passengers to "please stand clear of the closing doors"

I'm really sad you didn't mention you were in Hutch because I live there and I could have showed you some other cool elevators around town! One elevator I know you would have been excited to see was the elevator at HMS 8 it is an original Dover Hydraulic and it is 4 floors! Also the court house in Hutch has an original manual operated elevator that has never been changed since the building was made and part of it had a gate that could be lock if inmates needed to be transported! My grandmas apartment building has new Thyssenkrupp elevator that were installed about a year ago! At the Hutch Clinic has a Schindler elevator! If you ever are interested let me know and I can show you around! Keep up the videos they are awesome!
Kone has a test freight elevator in a limestone mine which is 330m or 1,090 feet. It was designed to test a new Kevlar/carbon composite rope system called UltraRope. The first commercial installation using UltraRope will be in Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and will be 660m or 2,165 feet.
In my country it's been nearly 10 years since a similar hoist plunged 20ft due to cable drum breakage and no-one was capable to get it fixed. It's about the oldest salt mine in Europe.
I watched the video a few more times, especially of the machine room footage, the hoist motor is DC. Might be powered by an MG set, there was machinery running in the background, winding drum machine is like 480 VDC or higher. @@ChristianPinnock-u5c
You should do the elevator at Ruby Falls cavern in Chattanooga TN. Similar to this, goes down a big man made shaft to the cave, I remember riding on it as a kid it was a good minute or two to get down there.

This is how it looks... But apparently there are emergency brakes or some stopping mechanism inside the elevator itself. If I'm not mistaken, it would appear that there are no power / command connections inside the elevator either, so these lamps work on batteries.
it is not elevator or lift, it is a cage. yes it operates similar to that of a lift/elevator, but it is cage. again I repeat it is not an elevator/lift, it is a cage.
I remember riding that elevator as a kid I thought that was scary but I got ride one in cripple creek Colorado I went 1000 feet down on a small double decker elevator
I believe there are more cables but it can be supported with just one. On elevators/lifts/hoists one of those cables is designed to hold the entire elevators weight at full capacity.
If you were to get stuck it wouldn't be that bad. I'm sure they've got phones and alarms in it. Plus the people in the engine room will notice those giant motors stop.
This needs a small ladder running the depth of the shaft and a hatch on the top of the car. Would be scary to climb but scarier to be stuck down in there with no way out
Hi, Im on pension now. I'm from South Africa, and I was a Winding Engine Driver for 36 years. Loved it.

Wow that was amazing. This ran a lot faster than I would have expected for a winding drum.
It was very fast.

it is cage, not elevator. buildings have elevators/lifts and mines have cages.

Fery fast and big winding drum lift Nice!!
It was epic.
it goes 661 feet down thankfully not 666 feet
The whole 666 thing is a myth. It's not real. It's just something someone made up.

I would like to go on one of these some day!
The right question is...how all THIS can be held on ONE rope? Impressive i can say.

The disk brake would prevent that.
