Gil, people have tried to have Zion reach out to Chuck. Chuck has offered himself. This is a grown man who’s been in the league way too long now for the hand holding. They beat it, he’s choosing not to. I used to tell my kids I can fix “I don’t know”. I can’t fix “I won’t do.”
The problem with this is that's not holding a 5 year nba vet accountable.. if you are on your second contract in any pro league you can't really keep being called a kid.. he's been a professional for long enough now to know a max contract cones with everything being an issue until you win

What do you give him advice?! The guy has some of the best nutritionists in the world playing for an NBA franchise on a 9 figure deal and he needs Shaq and Chuck to tell him to lay off the burgers??? Cmon bruh
The frustrating part about Zion is that he has so much natural talent. There are so many people in the world who would sacrifice everything to be an NBA player, but they were not born with the natural gifts to become one. Meanwhile, Zion will not sacrifice food, to be a superstar. He doesn't deserve the talent he was born with.

The problem I have with some past NBA players is the blind loyalty they display towards some of the current players. Any one who believes Zikn in today's game is a kid is just being dishonest! No one has used his past experience to advise current players, especially Zion, than Charles Barkley, and Shaq to some extent. NBA Players (past and present) are always quick to point out how franchises need to do right by their players but hold off on holding their own accountable. The Pelicans are paying top dollar for him to play. And have gone lengths to try to get him to stay healthy yet haven't got the same level of commitment from Zion. He clearly is putting in work in other aspects of his life, yet appears to cares less about securing his paycheck. Y'all need stop the cap!
The issue with Zion isnt just that he's out of shape. It's that he's getting injured and will get surgeries to a level where that same bounce might never be the same. He already wasnt jumping as high after that miniscus injury, even when in shape. If he stays this fat, he'll have 2-3 more surgeries before 27 and we will literally never see what Zion couldve been. Barkley and Shaq were always built solid. They got fat when disinterested, but we never truly missed out on their prime. Barkley looked skinny by comparison in his highlights. The fattest, oldest version of Barkley was still drastically skinnier than 23 year old Zion, cut the excuses.
Zion been told what to do, he doesn’t want to. They calling it like they see it, since college, his weight and conditioning are not conducive for the NBA
They keep saying he’s young but that’s the worst part, his metabolism is at its peak so if he doesn’t fix this now the older he gets the bigger he’ll get until he’s literally unable to be a factor in the league
Maybe 🤔 I never thought about that. I do know the league will be better with him in shape. If it is depression then I hope he gets out of it before the league gives up on him.
I believe he may be depressed. Being depressed and a multimillion dollar athlete with access to anything his heart desires would not be publically well received - especially as a man. I think him hiding his possible depression bc of the aforementioned is why things haven't changed.
Gill spitting facts. Zion was CLEARLY 40-50lbs overweight during the play-in Tournament vs LA. You can see it in his muscle tone. And He's cutting his career short.
I made a comment similar and just commented on another regarding depression. Mental health, especially with men, specifically with men of color, goes unnoticed and rarely spoken about.
this is year 5 of this crap. im giving up on him. he has already done way too much damage to his body and he will never be what we thought he could have been.
Man, knock it off. You cant tell me one other player who had these kinda weight issues at 20-23 yrs old. Just look at his face in a duke picture. Then look at it now. He got those football o-line genetics
I dont think Gil actually heard Charles criticism because he always starts his speech about Zion by saying Moses Malone called him fat and lazy and made him work out with Moses to find what should be his playing weight
It's ironic that Rashad is advocating support when in fact he's one of the 1st to ALWAYS CRITICISE LBJ WHATEVER HE DOES ON AND OFF THE COURT???! WHAT A HYPOCRITE.
Not leave him alone, but in order to be great he needs to take the constructive criticism. Question: If a player is good enough to make it to the NBA, does it mean that their bodies are equivalent and capable of matching their raw talent?
Their graciousness is a product of their good relationship with him, if they didn't like him, there would be all types of slander. They should kepp this energy for all players.
So y’all gon take it easy on Zion bcuz he came on the show?! 🤦🏾♂️. Zion is overweight and he’s gained a ton of weight since training camp which was 3 months ago. This is all his fault and he needs to do better.

Zion in his young twankies though man. Only thing stopping him from elevating his game is Zion. It ain’t a fair comparison between O’Neal and Barkley and then Zion. Shaq and Charles was near the end of their careers, physically. Zion a youngin with no work ethic mane. That’s why I say stop giving these babies these huge ass contracts and they ain’t played not one game yet. The dedication don’t match the checks. U cashing them out too early if that makes sense. Bad take. Charles and Shaq have been willing to help Zion. They’ve both been criticized for being out of shape, so it’s not unique to Zion. The frustration is so deep because the eating habit is something so fixable that’s holding him back. He’s a ready made NBA star. It’s frustrating seeing him not lacking anything except a good diet. @@CCEkeke 😂 . i mean would you? early 20’s with that much money and access to anything he wants. Temptation EVERYWHERE. It’s probably harder thn u imagine
Zion is not potential. An in-shape and conditioned Zion is a definite superstar franchise player. That’s the issue people have with him. It’s not even a question of what he can be. It’s a guarantee that if he got in shape, he would dominate.
They making excuses for him???? I get it. But I don't. Shaq And Barkley are trying to motivate him. If the team can't motivate him who will. I think when you take the money before you develop is the issue. The players take the money but don't want the accountability. Don't take the bag and just ask for what you deserve based on performance. When you negotiate the max and you become the face that is when you take on the responsibility you have to make sacrifices?
This whole take from them is just wrong and they know it, that dude needs to get in basketball shape, a franchise put all their hope in you, and you don’t wanna maintain your weight at 23yrs old, Gil you know that
I do think the talk from the media personalities is verging on bullying but not from everyone. I think Shaq and Barkley are actually concerned because they've been through it, but Stephen A and Shannon Sharpe just want those clicks and calling Zion fat on TV is getting them those clicks.
Stop it with this, "he's a kid." He's a man and he should know what he needs to do. There people around him telling him about his weight, but he is not listening. You can't want something for somebody more than they want for themselves. Also don't tell me that at 23 you can't be on a diet. When I was 23 and boxing I was able to follow a diet. He's a professional and need to act like it. People need to stop bringing up age. Either he wants it or he doesn't.
I normally don't say this but uhhh..Rashad got a point @5:00. If he's an hella talented dude who just can't bring himself to prepare for a NBA season, these are the results! An All-Star who never plays 60 games, with a likely shortened career, who made a ton of money. Maybe his character is Roy Tarpley/Oliver Miller/Michael Ray Richardson, not prime Charles Barkley. Zion's the only one who has to live with that, not the talking heads. But if you're dumping Zion for not reaching his potential, AGAIN, in year 4, just so he can fulfill your dreams as a fan, you're part of the problem. Homie is obviously dealing with bigger issues than basketball if everyone's giving the same advice and he still can't do it.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Like Rashad said Zion has to ask himself, “Are you content with where you at or do you have more to give?”. It always freaks me out that people with all the money, access, and time to be the best version of themselves physically but decide, “Nah, imma chill for a minute and enjoy the ride.”. But people that got multiple jobs and responsibilities but still clock into the gym and do work!”. You can put trash fuel in the Ferrari for a while but at some point it will f*** up your engine.
The pop vinyl on the side looks like any of my created characters in a video game cutscene where the situation is serious and my 🤡 armor is in the background
I think one big difference between Barkley and Shaq and Zion is those old school dudes would play hurt. Bad back? Oh well. Barkley always had a bad back. Sore knees? 40 minutes and ice. Shaq always had knee pain. Shoulder injury? 4 Advil. These days guys get tweaked and sit for 2 weeks like they’re a fragile tea cup. That’s one issue they have with the new players. Sometimes you gotta play when you’re 75% IF you want to win. You’re going to have to play hurt and figure it out. This is physics too. Zion at 6’6” 285 playing 82 games…those knees ain’t holding up with that beating. He ought to play at 255-260 if he wants to play full seasons.
At the 4:10 mark Rashad McCants made the reallest point that everybody should take heed to. Zion Williamson and other athletes (hell all of us) become exactly who and what we were meant to be. Our expectations for someone else means nothing, they will be what they want to be. Zion Williamson seems like he cares more about food than basketball, so when he was given millions of dollars he invested his money into food and was able to con the Pelicans into giving him a max contract even though HE DID NOT EARN IT.
The thing Gil is missing is that Shaq & Chuck both said it took people in the media saying something for them to take it seriously. Shaq said it was Wilbon who got him to pay attention.

@@adgee5401Chuck played with way more energy on the court than Zion
Shaq and Chuck been telling Zion he needed to lose weight to prevent injury. Does Gil have the memory of a goldfish?
I can’t take rashad anymore seriously than usually with that fucking hat 😭😂
They keep saying he’s young but that’s the worst part, his metabolism is at its peak so if he doesn’t fix this now the older he gets the bigger he’ll get until he’s literally unable to be a factor in the league
Zion could be depressed and stress eating you never know
Maybe 🤔 I never thought about that.

Smh zero accountability. You expect the owners to pay players who cannot do the basics and stay in shape. He isn’t even trying, dude is overweight.

They making excuses for him???? I get it. But I don't. Shaq And Barkley are trying to motivate him. If the team can't motivate him who will. zion needs a nutritionist and a live-in chef that travels with him everywhere and carries healthy snacks/meals
Anthony Bennett was no where close to Zion Williamson compared to there stats
Stop it with this, "he's a kid." He's a man and he should know what he needs to do. There people around him telling him about his weight, but he is not listening. You can't want something for somebody more than they want for themselves. Also don't tell me that at 23 you can't be on a diet. When I was 23 and boxing I was able to follow a diet. He's a professional and need to act like it. People need to stop bringing up age. Either he wants it or he doesn't.
McCants up there looking dumb 😂
“Smelling that shit makes you hungry” 😂
