    My mother had the EXACT same orange calendar shown at 37:40.
    It still shows the same date she left her home and moved into another type of accommodation.
    She changed it every single day for YEARS - it's very sentimental to me as it represented the end of her "independence", and her tragic decline.
    I just see it as a "pause" - before I'll get to see her again one day - not too long from now 😢

    What a sinking feeling you get when you find out some of these cases remain unsolved, over 30 years later. Derek Brann, the Folkestone taxi driver who was murdered, for example.
    The case being solved wouldn't bring him back, but I cannot begin to imagine how the family and friends feel knowing Derek's killer has presumably been living his life ever since the day they killed him.

      Nope, the taxi driver case remains unsolved-but police last year were reviewing the case & making appeals in the regional papers & on our local news shows. There is desperately little out there about it-likely due to how long ago it happened & little for them to go on sadly-I think it is one that will never be solved, they do have DNA now due to advances, but no match-so unless one of the killers relatives gets nicked & has DNA taken it probably will remain a mystery. The thing that surprises me is he was only 48, just going by his pictures I would put him at 68.

      To tell you the truth, I wouldn't want for people to be checking in/up on myself.
      My independence and privacy is *invaluable* to me.
      What I believe they have in Japan, is a "monitoring" system that detects the activation and deactivation, of electrical appliances, water taps, and light switches.
      The implication being that a complete absence of their activation/deactivaton, suggests that something unfortunate might have happened.
      Call buttons placed in multiple, reachable areas in every room - that can't be pressed inadvertently - would also be a good idea.
      Safe, strangle-free pull cords could also be fitted in the bathrooms/wetrooms for the same purpose.
      Being checked in/up on is very debilitating, as it can exacerbate one's sense of being "impaired" - the letterbox really should be the most "intrusive" form of communication - all voluntary offers of services that can be provided when things aren't going well should be posted through the door - and that's it.

    • @treasurehunteruk9718
      @treasurehunteruk9718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 If there is no activity with lights, etc, it could be you are away on holiday, so you don't want folks breaking in to see if you are still alive. You would have to remember to tell the wardens you were going away for a few days.

    • @letsdiscussitoversometea8479
      @letsdiscussitoversometea8479 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@treasurehunteruk9718 Then I think that in *addition* to the other idea, an "asymmetrical" front door lock could be utilised, which would inform the warden that somebody has locked the front door from the outside (with a very specific type of key), so that any visitors who come along and lock the door won't change the status of the "monitoring" system, but the actual resident _themselves,_ could use this specific key, to lock the door and thereby inform the warden that the resident has left the property for an indeterminate period.
      The key itself could double as a sort of "tracking" device which could activate voluntarily, have a "decline call" type-button if the warden tries to "call" it to establish your location, and maybe "ping" outside locations every so often (unless the resident forcibly disables this when still indoors).
      So it still keeps the "safeguarding" option open as the default setting, but offers the option of privacy to those who choose to exercise it.

Nothing else online so assume it just another of those pre-internet cases where details are impossible to come by.. It is quite a way down the page at 5.58 PM from Lord Brabazon Of Tara. api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/lords/1989/jan/26/london-underground-crime

      Sadly, Liverpool was one of the places hardest hit by the massive poverty caused by deindustrialisation in the 80s. There were several riots. The famous TV drama "Boys from the black stuff" was set in Liverpool in the 80s and followed the chaos caused to so many families by mass unemployment. As so often in situations like that, there was a huge crime wave.

I've found, as someone who feels sometimes you need to "pick" an identity in the workplace (eg the "joker", the "reliable but boring one", the "so attractive everyone's scared of you" one (usually female), and the "rich, refined one") that making it clear in a nice way you're richer than most people there tends to isolate you a bit and doesn't work out well

      Sadly, I don't think hardly, if any, of these unsolved murders shown here or on CW in the 1980s will be solved now. If they are/ever do, it *will* be somewhat of a miracle. All due to the lack of DNA/tracing/forensics/CCTV at the period, whilst the increase of time gives anyone involved with solving the case over 30 years later too little to go on. It's *desperately* sad, I do know. Especially for the loved ones who cannot get closure from it.
