    Thanks for this RedCard. Not watched it yet, but this was the first episode I watched on original broadcast. I’d started secondary school, bedtime was a little later, and I was allowed to watch Crimewatch. It regularly terrified me, but still loved watching. Don’t actually remember what cases were on my first show so really looking forward to watching this in bed later. X

      People talk about the 80s as if it was some kind of golden era. It absolutely wasn't. I think most people these days would be shocked at how nasty and ignorant a lot of people were back then.

      There’s always one that gets on the offensive band wagon about something… no one cares, i don’t think it’s that it was “ignorant” at all i just think people were allowed to be more honest back then, you can’t say nothing these days without making sure you haven’t offended the rest of the world and their mother, petty is the best word i could use for people.

      It was also more discreet.
      During a much later episode, it was stated that a telephone conversation could be overheard by the watching audience.
      The layout of the studio ensured that callers were made to feel more uncomfortable - which continued up until 2017 when the show was axed.
      Done very slowly to demoralise the watching viewer so they wouldn't campaign for it to be brought back.
      My theory as to why they did this, is because of the increasing number of blk suspects, which the BBC couldn't show being bad people - even back then.

    After a fourth trial, Timothy Robson, 31, who is deaf, was jailed for life for the murder in 1988 of Susanne Greenhill, 20, of Newport, Gwent. Robson had the verdict relayed to him in sign language.

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Four trials-something really odd there..

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is the most detailed thing I can find-would seem a crime of passion/jealousy, maybe she had threatened to tell his wife, maybe she wanted to end their affair.
      Born deaf; attended several special schools throughout Wales, the last being the residential Ashgrove Special School for Deaf Children in Penarth, which she left at age 17 without graduating. Sexually promiscuous, she was found in her apartment, stabbed to death. One of her deaf lovers, Timothy Jack Robson (q.v.), an adulterer cheating on his wife, was eventually arrested, convicted of her murder, and sentenced to life imprisonment, but not until after 3 years, 4 trials, and 2 appeals. He was finally nailed by DNA evidence in 1992, though some people both in and out of the local Deaf community remain unconvinced.

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With so little details it is hard to say-it all depends on whether the DNA evidence is solid, you can only assume the prior trials didn't have it & the jury were probably somewhat bamboozled by the sign language & ended in hung juries. I can never recall another case with four trials, nor one where a deaf person was on trial.

      Exactly. Young teenage girls were considered fair game by some men back in those days. Look at the 80s film, "Rita, Sue and Bob too". Basically about a man preying on schoolgirls. Samantha Fox posing topless as a kid. There was a very nasty stereotype that paedophiles were gay, and gay people were paedophiles. Never mind how many straight men were preying on young girls. The nasty phrase "if there's grass on the wicket let's play cricket" was sadly far from uncommon then.

      NO deafness had nothing to do with it.
      She was likely killed because she rejected him...

      Deaf or jot , made no dufference.
