Navigable rivers, more dynamic terrain, trains, civ-specific architecture and better sprawl generation... This game shows how far we've come in terms of game technology since 2016
more dynamic terrain = lags at endgame
I mean there have been other 4x games who have done some of this in the last 8ish years
@@wedonteatbears almost every single feature you mentioned was there in sole form in Civilization 1, or at the very least 2. Navigable rivers perhaps not very literally, but travelling along the rivers was like using roads, only 1/3 movement point cost, and made a lot of sense from historical point of view. Dynamic terrain as in terrain changed due to climate change, nuclear wars and direct changes by settlers was there too. The last two things are not game mechanics, so honestly I don't care.
@@winter-rabbit who cares, it'll still be a helluva ride
I reallllllly hope that was to showcase navigable rivers too, but could just be a trade route thing. Either way it did look cool
I appreciate that the art style is still a bit cartoonish and colorful but a bit more realistic too.
Like a perfect blend of Civ V and Civ VI
Exactly, à perfect balance between two styles, i can already say i will love playing it!

That's what I was thinking!
It seems they got "inspired" by humankind graphics style. Lets hope they incorporate the outpost mechanic in some way. It was a great idea that amplitude had.

My Grandfather introduced me to Civilization when I was a child back in the 90’s. We spent countless hours playing it together through the years.
He unfortunately passed away around the time of Civ 5 but I know he would have loved this ❤
You grandfather was the epitomy of being grand. May he rest in peace.
The first one was sure a gem amidst the shitty games back in the day.
I think I was 13 when it came out.
While waiting for VII I am enjoying VI :)

Yes shame but at least he witnessed civ there all similar gameplay wise.
Dude, you make me cry, its a real shame that he cannot see this, but i'm happy this can make you remender him forever.
That's awesome bro. I hope to be a game playing grandpa one day and inspire my grandsons and daughters. How exciting is that. I can't wait for my son to grow up and play games with him.
You know it is supposed to hurt? It's beautiful if you think about it. Our hearts feeling the absence and still being full of love for those that are gone.
I'm sure your grandpa is so proud of being remembered fondly to this very day, wherever he is now.
Thank you for this beautiful thing you shared with us, brother.
My dad is still playing Civilization 2 to this day.
Its wild to see how far games have evolved.
Mine still plays civ 3
I've played all Civ parts for thousands of hours - Civ 2 was great, but 4 with all add-ons is still the best part. Maybe you can convince him to try out some of the new (civ iv -> 2005) stuff

i’m just happy natural disasters and stuff seem to come as standard (hopefully with improvements). as much as people didn’t seem to like their implementation, i liked feeling like the map was actually dynamic and changing
Civilization V was so good they went and made a Civilization V II.
I'm so glad that they got rid of Civ 6's cartoon style though.

My dream for a Civ game is to see more societal aspects. My only gripe for other Civ games is no matter what type of government you have, it feels the same. I want to be able to see how my decisions affect my civilization.
Idk if that makes sense.
the game is extremely fake and bland because every character is stupid, the same stupid character who's behaviors don't make sense, this company is doing an EA sports move , like they did with FIFA, same game exactly every year, just enough new phrases added to the marketing so that it can be sold as a new thing again
Time to retire from my professional career at age 25. It was a great run, I am now a full-time Civ player.

Mass deleting negative comments is crazy
Yep, most of them are gone. Even the ones which were to be fair quite constructive. Shame that they can't handle their own fanbase's criticism.
For a second I thought everything looked very postitive for the game... a little too positive... lol
you havent seen lithuanian news channels mass deleting ''reality check'' comments on ukraine propaganda over 9000....''ukraine is about to conquer russia'' LMAO....
What are you even talking about? Just scroll down! You guys have to stop with this paranoia about "deleted comments on TH-cam" crap. Not only there is plenty of negative comments on the bottom, but YT comment section has been buggy for years now, and because YT operates on cloud network, with the most important task of syncing views and likes, it doesn't always update all the comments, and some disappear because of that, specially if done when a new video is posted, since the data change on newer videos is higher than older videos. This is basic stuff, and instead you are going down a conspiracy rabbit hole.
@@herlandercarvalhoI wish that were the case. Ever since I've started commenting things not so favourable of certain organisations youtube would back, my stuff has been getting shadowbanned if I'm not careful even in casual contexts. And I'm not saying slurs or whatever just actual feedback
One thing that strikes me about this trailer is how detailed the the terrain is now. It's a lot more vibrant and textured compared to Civ 6, which could often look identical. Even the layout of the cities seems to have been improved. They're not as disjointed as they used to be. There seems to be a lot more urban sprawl in the surrounding countryside.
It definitely feels like they're going for a return to Civ 5 graphics, even the units aren't compromised of like three dudes anymore, there's a lot of them now occupying a single tile. Except the cavalry weirdly.
@@adambrande to be fair cavalry typically are much fewer in number
Yeah art style in 6 was a pretty big turn off. It felt washed out, which was strange as it was supposed to be an improvement over 5.
i really enjoy that as well. pretty much sold me right there. i couldn't stand the cartoony thing going on before
The only reason i didnt touch civ6 was that awful disney pixar look

Same here! Always imagined it in a future game
What's the other half?
Don't celebrate too soon; that looked like it might have just been a trader. Still big, but maybe not all boats can do that.

Quote from the real Gandhi: "If we had the atom bomb, we would have used it against the British."
I thought they showed him for real lol you got me
I love how they've scaled back the cartoonish artstyle of Civ 6 while maintaining its vibrant colors whilst maintaining the realism of Civ 5. A beautiful blend of both games. I think the units are WAY too big, but that's something mod authors can address later down the line

@@tyler5914 source??
Edit, found it - and it doesn’t seem good.
Progressing through the eras is also crucial to the other massive change in Civilization VII: namely, that you are no longer bound to a single civilization throughout the entire game. You'll pick your and civ at the start of the game, but then as you transition into the Exploration and Modernity phases, you'll choose a new civilization with its own unique traits. Which civs you gain access to depends on a complex flow chart of criteria that you fulfilled during your era--for example, certain civilizations that adequately master horseriding will then be able to transition to Mongol civilization during the Exploration era.

My frist Civ game was Civ III. The thing I love about this franchise is that with every new game I still get filled with nostalgia and can identify how the ideas from the first games are part of the new dynamics. Love Civ, since my frist turn to today.
Mine was Civ II, which I started playing with my nephew on my knee (he wouldn't sleep)...my now 23 year old nephew started with Civ 4 and can convincingly kick my ass in Civ 6.

Navigable rivers for no reason is an amazing decision
And I mean it
No reason? More like about time. Navigable rivers have been fundamental to the development of human civilizations since time immemorial. The Mississippi still IS fundamental to United States trade and development. It was a massive oversight not including them in previous games.
@@ChristopherTriplett What I mean is that from a gameplay perspective it doesn't do that much
I do like it as I said an amazing decision especially considering how in real civilization rivers where really important as you said
No reason? The fan pages on Reddit have been asking for it. I’m one of those people.
@@IDKisReal2401 It doesn't do much in the games because it has never existed in the games bruh. Every game I play there are rivers that at some point would have made excellent sense to embark troops down in order to move them more quickly. Or trade routes for that matter. Or having ship-yards at the end of a massive river allowing in-land high production cities to produce some (Maybe not AC's) naval vessels, especially when you have several major cities along a river towards a coastal city. Or even scouting in the early game could be entirely changed if you spawn next to a river.

During my childhood in the early 90's, I played Civilization I. Or just Civilization. I turned 10 in the year 1991. Playing that game was glorious. Civ II I didn't play that much, but Civ III even more.
This wasn't even a gameplay reveal, it was more of a cinematic reveal
That was my exact first thought too! Like it's great to get some in game footage, but there wasn't a single *gameplay* thing in that whole trailer haha.
There were hints about things though. A boat going up a river. Continuing with a districts-like system where you have buildings/etc taking tiles. The keeping of natural disasters.
But I get your point. Though even as someone that's planning to stick with Civ V there were things I liked such as them making civs' unit styles look more unique. And the art style.

personally I never liked the look of city sprawl that began in IV. Much preferred Civ III style.
Looks like there is a focus on making each Civ city look really unique, which would be really nice
Please, tell us the new civ-swapping "feature" is going to be optional...
It's not. They ruined the game. I'm hoping enough people make an outcry that they remove it from the game before they release it
@@tyler5914 Seems like a far fetch. ATM the game and civs are designed to have tech and stuff only in their era/age. They basically have 1/3 of the content you would need to play as an single civs thro all the ages. Won't be buying the game. They ruined civ for me.
Cannot wait for this installment!! Over 600 hours in Civ VI and I can't wait to put as many into Civ VII 😍
This will be my entire 30s lol. Just like civ 6 was my entire 20s 😂
I don't know how to explain it, but this looks as if you perfectly blended Civ 5 and Civ 6 together and I love it
I've played Sid Meier's Civilization since the very first one in 1991 when I was just a young teen, man I'm getting old.
I can count on one hand with missing fingers how many games were bad or even underperforming, just a classic strategy game!
I'm sure it'll be great!
Ah but which fingers is the question
Looking forward to buying 1/3 of a game and being sold the rest as DLC over 5 years.
@@fiddleriddlediddlediddle this is the most acurate comment ever i was just thinking the exact same i look forward to playing a gimped version of 7 with none of the features it will eventually contain and paying 4 full game prices for the final build..
Please add more diplomacy for players, especially with AI to add more depth rather than war, especially in later ages! War is fun and all, but I personally feel that more diplomacy would lead to more versatility!
The style and lighting is wonderful; from a graphical perspective this looks amazing!
Omg, it's happening!
There goes the next 10,000 hours of my life ❤❤
Cant wait for Civilization 8
Is that Bellas Artes from Mexico as a wonder?! 1:14
Yes, ando I hope see Mexico as civ
@@victor.san_ pensé lo mismo cuando lo ví y si parece bastante a Bellas Artes
I think it is, it looks cool
En efecto es Bellas Artes, pero ojalá también signifique que México será una civilización jugable.
Yes 🎉❤
KING IS BACK
So, is it more like civ 5 or 6? It looks more like 6 but an actual gameplay video will really tell.
I personally preferred expanding my empire more like in 5
This trailer and the steam discription feel like, Civ is "borrowing" ideas of Humankind and tells us: "we can do that, too. But better"
...and more expensive. With DLC after DLC after DLC.
CAN'T WAIT! I absolutely love the graphics!
Whoever came up with the hex tile UI highlights is a creative genius, it looks so amazing and points to the soul of the game
Give me this game NOW!!!
Go stream, stream boy
The way the city spreads out from just being a tile to sprawling across the landscape is incredible
That looks absolutely beautiful, thank you for spending time to get the game right. The care it appears to have been taken is immensely appreciated. Hope Australia is back as a nation to play 🤞
0:52 Borobudur Temple?
@@ARDITRIYUWONO1945 YES! Finally!
Membakar borobudur!!!
no need to say it, its already a staples for famous architecture.
@@octopin3278 menyala borobudur...wkwkwk bukan membakar tapi menyala abangku.
Goodness gracious I really didn't think I could get excited for Civ anymore but here we are
Edit: holy cow those pre-order prices are wild! I certainly hope the plan isn't to lock factions behind a pre-orders?
if need be, i will sail the seas like the boat sailed the river
Current practice will have +15% rough terrain bonus for $9.99 DLC. 😂
I’m really hyped for this game now!
Finally gonna be sailing DOWN DOWN DOWN BY THE RIVERRR.
Not sure how many of you saw the livestream but you change civs between 3 ages. Not sure how everyone feels about that..
Vergüenza, siento vergüenza que me intenten clavar 80 napos por un juego que ya tengo en mi librería, Humankind
@@algual888 Estoy de acuerdo, amigo. Esperaba un nuevo modo de juego.
Can we get actual gameplay vid next?
This looks amazing! But can we please have a civ 3 remaster
I wish for better AI please. Looks good
@@SagaraJedah not in this series. Sometimes I have a feeling the AI is getting worse and worse every time.
I agree, I kind of hate that higher difficulty in Civ 6 was just the computer having more of a handicap over you.
No day/night cycles?
