I share your same frustration with this machine. I have been sewing forever but adjusting the tension on this machine does take time and patience. I also don’t care for the cutter on the foot pedal, again my preference. Thank You for your honesty.

Your welcome. Another commenter in this video says the foot pedal was recalled. So maybe you can look into that. I will.

I started sewing in the late 1980’s but the singer I started on you used the foot pedal backwards, this is how I use all foot pedals now, and it works so well with this same machine I love my Juki 180vp

Your video had me worried about buying one. Glad I didn’t use your video as my only resource as still haven’t had any issues with my Juki 2000 QI. People need to know about tension is all. I sure hope your getting the hang of it because I love mine.

I use Guttermann Tara 70 40 wt. and it works wonderfully in my Juki TL 2000 Qi. I had to fool around with the tension to get. The stitches looking right. I very seldom use the thread cutter.

I have TL 18 QVP and never any tension issues ever. It looks like that one so not sure the differences. Oh I see mine was almost triple the price so I guess this is one I would buy to carry to retreat or something but it looks like controls are pretty much the same.

I have the tl18 also and have problem with the other upper smaller tension knob. When cutting the top thread it’s so short!

I love my TL18 too! I wanted a juki 215 or 2100 I think it was. Whatever the second step up from the base TL series was. My budget was around $1,000-1,200. Everywhere online was showing a price of $1,600 for the TL18. I went to a quilt shop and wanted to see the TL machines in person, (only seen it online) and the guy said he was running a special. I ended up walking about with the a TL18 for only $1,150!!! I couldn’t resist. So I suggest. Visiting a quilting store. But don’t call because they won’t give you the price over the phone. Also using thicker threads on the TL machines you’re not supposed to use the thread cutter. If you’re looking for heavyweight machine to sew heavy leather and such I would have gotten a sailrite.

I just bought the Juki 1020 and have tension problems with duck canvas fabric. It seems that sewing against the grain vs with the grain is the problem. One way is good, the other - the stitches look like instead of sewing straight, every several stitches the needle goes crooked, as if it’s going into the space between fibers, taking the path of least resistance. I took it back. The tech adjusted the tension and when I got home, although it sewed straight, the tension was so tight the thread was breaking. I will continue to try another week or two before I decide to return it within 30 days.. but honestly, I absolutely LOVE my Singer HD6800. I’ve been sewing for 45 years so I’m not a novice, but the Juki seems to be more trouble than it’s worth.

I just purchased this same machine and I too and having such a hard time with tension. I'm sewing zippered pouches and using either waxed canvas or plain canvas. My top stitching just does not look right to me. I'm using a heavy duty thread in the top and bobbin and a microtex needle. My stitching in places does not look straight. It looks slightly crooked if that makes sense. Maybe I'm using the wrong needle?? I dunno I've messed with the tension so much I'm going crazy. When I first got the machine I was just using regular thread and had no issues, it looked great. It wasn't until I switched to the heavier thread that it became an issue. I've not had any issues with the thread cutter. Following along! Going to check your channel for any update videos.

      @harmony4422  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes! I totally feel you! The problems start when I combine thicker materials with a Tex 69 thread. I hear that it helps to use a lighter thread in the bobbin like a Tex 45. I have yet to try that. I think I have the tension right. It seems like they go at a slight angle, right? But they look good to me now. I also have no issues with standard thread so maybe it could be a thread issue. I have no clue and yes, hours and hours trying to adjust the tension. I know exactly what you mean. Hopefully we can figure it out and get a better understanding of this machine.

@@harmony4422 yes they are slightly slanted. What is your tension set at with your presser foot down?

I am having the same problem!! My top stitching is a mess!! So crooked!! I’ve used up spools of thread trying to figure this out. I just finally put in 50wt cotton thread and it seems better. But it’s so annoying!!
Do you adjust the tension with the foot up or down?

  • @alegrasbow

Hi, you're pretty much the first person that I see that is complaining about the machine.
I have the TL2200QVP MINI and had issues with the thread that I use
    (Amann Isacord 40).
No matter which needle I used or stitch length, the upper thread kept doing loops on the upper side of the fabric (the tension was perfect adjust) then when I switched to a another thread (Amann Saba 120) there weren't any problems no matter the needle size or how many layers of fabric I had.
So if you have the right thread, needle and the tension is right the machine is a beast.
Really the best machine on the market before you buy a industrial one, you have just to learn what she needs ;-)

I have the Juki TL2200QVP Mini. I too had issues with thread cutting at the foot control. I solved the problem by turning the foot control around backwards. No more accidental thread cutting.

The TL2200QVP Mini has a black rubber stopper that you fit on the foot (looks like a pair of glasses), prevents the scissors from working.

There was a recall on the foot pedal, as it was cutting randomly. I bought mine a couple years ago, but the newer ones have the problem. I change tension on my bobbin, and top depending on the thread thickness. Have fun. See you in the groups!

I've had my Juki 2000qi for about 2 months & have been struggling since the beginning. I've sewn for many years & have never had the tension issues that this machine gives me. New needle, 50 wt cotton thread, nothing unusual. I just cannot seem to adjust the tension without some little loops on the underside of the fabric (cotton). A huge learning curve! I've looked at just about every Juki Tube by the way. Any help would be great from readers!

Thank you for sharing. I have a machine just like the one you are using. I have the same problem with the foot peddle and I was thinking that something is wrong with it. Every time I start sewing and press down to so it cuts the thread and sometimes while sewing it will cut the thread. I don't know if I accidently pressed back on the peddle or not but I would like to get the guard that you have and see if that will work for me. I will be checking the tension and try to stop the thread from building up. Thank you again so much . This machine is new to me as well but I love it. Works great except for getting use to it and figuring out the tension.

Tension at 3 with presser foot up or down. Isn’t the top tension for and button stitching and vice versa??

I'm getting to where I hate my Juki TL-2010Q and I've only had it since the beginning of the year..
I've got the thread tension set but what keeps happening to mine is it will sew just fine for about 6"-8" then all of sudden the top thread catches on something (I'm thinking the thread cutter) and it pulls so hard that when it breaks it sounds like a guitar string and leaves a long thread tail on the back side. It will pickup the bobbin thread and continue to sew just fine for another 6"-8" and then it repeats..
I'm very knowledgeable in sewing machine repairs (25+ vintage sewing machines & I service all of them) and I'm at a total loss on this one..
I'm gonna look for some groups on FB and see if I can pick their brains.

Make sure threaded correctly and try using all three holes instead of two or try one , because that will create nesting and uneven stitching if not correctly threaded, ask me how I know 😅

  • @jeanshep52
    @jeanshep52 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

If you use a thicker thread you’ll need to use a regular thread in the bobbin.

Try releasing pressure on foot , could be pushing the fabric instead of feeding

Hi, thank you for your review , it helps a lot to know more about how to deal with some of these issues. I just bought a Juki TL 2000Qi , last week, I am having an issue with the foot pedal, most of the time it wont work, I am wondering if I should just return it. :(

    • @mttrx8504

It’s a faulty foot pedal. I was having issues with my 2010q after a month of owning. There seems to be a bad batch with the new ones. Go to your dealer or call Juki to replace. Juki replaced mine for free, although it took a month of calls and emails. Might be faster to go thru your dealer. Good luck!

I just kept with using lighter weight thread and I never had any issues doing that. I didn't keep trying to figure out the proper setting for heavy thread, unfortunately. Someone informed me that the foot pedal was on recall so I have to look into that as well because it was a big problem for me.

I give up with this machine. You shouldn't have to accommodate the machine to sew. Juki replied to me once probably because they thought I wanted to purchase, and now I can't get them to answer me back or even tell me if the pedal is covered under warranty.
