Hello motoheads!, and welcome to Episode 8 of A Bike and a Beer, the show were I feature a vintage motorcycle while drinking an appropriately paired beer! Todays show explores an iconic Harley from the late 50s and I've got a great story to go with it combined with the perfect throwback beer that ties it all together.
Thanks for watching!
#harleydavidson #elvispresley #panhead
Beautiful stylish bike for sure, 55 horse for a 59, not too shabby!
I’d be happy to ride one, one day.
Cheers!
Go for it!
The best Harley ever made the Panhead🎉
Pretty darn cool! Thanks for watching.
it's a beauty, the big flh is a good easy driver.
It's a sweet ride!
Nice burnout! You captured the essence of the Duo Glide in fine fashion. Riding it like riding an easy chair down the highway and and she handles like a shopping cart. There is a lot to love about this Panhead and dialed in The motor will never let you down. Many disagree but I believe the dual points system makes for a vibration free motor.. I still have mine and it was my main road bike for over 20 years. Lots of good times.
Any student of body language could discern your honest opinion of Shultz was it is Mega swill. 😅
Haha! Thank you as always for your thoughtful responses! Very cool to hear a positive opinion from someone who has spent a lot of time on one of these beasts!
I love the old harleys. great video
Thank you so much Jeff!
Waylon Jennings had a Pan head that belonged to Elvis but some years back he had a auction to raise some funds do to moving from Tennessee to I believe Arizona . I'm sure you can find out by looking into it. Great video beautiful Machine!
I’ll check it out! Thanks for the kind words!
I fell in love with panheads at age 11 because of a bike magazine. Got a 1948.
Sweet!
I bought a 1960 Duo-Glide from Hank and Roger Reiman @ Reiman's HD in Kewanee Ill. in 1977 when I was 21 years old. It's seen many updates and rebuilds over the years but it's been my daily rider ever since. And yes, I can spend a whole day on that deluxe solo seat comfortably.
First time viewer, l loved the bike & your video 👍
58 was the first year for hyd brake but I'm sure you know that.
I'm subscribed so I hope to see more
Really nice bike love me some pan heads that one is sweet
Got a flathead, and a 48 and 53 pan love them equally
That’s a beauty.
Thanks!
Very nice motorcycle, I'm sure it was the Cadillac in its day.
50% Like to View ratio! Great content deserves a response.
Really appreciate your support!
Thanks. Hope I can get it running like the 59 in your video.
You can!
Great post. I subscribed. Love 59. Oh, the barrels are cast iron. 😂😂
Right on!
As a 10 year old kid in the early sixties, a drifter named Whitey pulled into my little town riding one of these. It was blue with a brown saddle & leather bags.
Me & my buddies surrounded him and tried to get a ride, but he said NO, and went into the gin mill. Probably had a cool Schlitz in there under the slow turning ceiling fans.
Haha! Great story! Thanks for sharing!
My dad had a 59 pan, first bike I was ever on . Used to tie me in front of him when I was a year and a half old and take me for rides. That was in 1964.
Nice choice of music to start the video, it goes well with motorbikes. My own favourite motorbike music is "Diamonds" by Jet Harris and Tony Meehan, which was also used by my local speedway team here in the UK, "Newcastle Diamonds". Thanks for explaining the DuoGlide name, that had me puzzled.
Thanks for the compliment on the music! And thanks for watching!
Jerry Lee Lewis was a very talented man that destroyed his career through a bad choice in 1960.He reinvented himself as a country and western artist in the 70s & actually got Jimmy Page to play guitar on one of his songs. His Autobiography was amazing.
When that bike was new most highways had no speed limit. Plus gas was high octane and was cheap.
The good old days
That's what I used to drink in the seventy's cause it was the strongest beer I could find! lol
Nice
Yea, you know Elvis was pissed about getting the 2nd bike. These Cats were very competitive about everything back in the early days. They even argued about who would go on stage first when they were just getting started. Elvis' bike probably was given to some dude just hanging around someplace. Hopefully he kept the bike in the family and it reemerges soon. More likely it was trashed and wrecked a long time ago. Anyway, yes, it would bring at least half a million, or more, if it ever does show up. Beautiful bikes!
Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing!
I have always missed my 61 FLH😅
Great Bike, just when I think OK Panheads are the best, I see a nice Knuckle and am so conflicted lol... 😑
Dr Evil would say 1 million dollars !
🏍️👍🏼👋🏼👍🏼👍🏼👋🏼👋🏼
I was a toddler when this hit the show rooms. I was always a fan of HD styling at least up until the last several years where the styling is slacking.
Buy some pants that are the correct length next time.😅 Nice bike.👍
Haha! Went with the 50's cuff
@wheelhousegarage I know, I was just needling you a bit. Definitely the look.
Fence looks great what stain is that?
haha wish I knew! Previous owner of the house took applied it.
Belongs in a museum--with something underneath to catch the oil.
Belongs on the road as intended
Thats what my father drank mosty in the 60s, Schlitz and Ballentine. Probably when I got my first taste of beer. And today I still can't stand the taste of beer. Both beers now defunct.
Theres a few stories about elvises bike going around all good stories lol
Anything Elvis-related is fascinating!
Elvis is everywhere
Elvis panhead would go for $1m+
what is it worth $$$ ? i'll trade you a case of slitz.
That’ll work! 😉
Elvis could kick start a Harley
Thought first year rear shocks was 1960 on fl panhead
1958
Give me the 650 Triumph every day.
Rich people with more money than God are driving the prices of everything to ridiculous levels. You could buy a new Panhead motor from S&S and build a new bike for less than a new Harley Davidson. Plus you won't have the mechanical issues that both the Twin Cam and M-8 have. Today's motorcycles are a collection of government regulations on 2 wheels.
lol
M8
54000 miles no problem
the problems are from making rolling cell phone computerized infotainment missiles.
distracted riders and too much tech.
M8 engines have the same type of issues that the twin cam engines had outside of the cam chain issues. They have wet something from the transmission into the primary they have oil pump issues they have compensator issues and their automatic primary chain tensioner tightens the chain too tight causing the bearings in the transmission to go out as well as it running hot as Hades and cookie get the oil to death in his little as 300 miles. Harley has not been able to make a decent motor since the evolution motor because now their murders are designed by Bean counters in order to please the stockholders.Wait kill the crankshaft runner out get to 12000 and the cam plate is trying to keep the crankshaft in line. Full of cheap imported parts that cost you a mint to replace like the Chinese cam plate. Or the Mexican wiring harness that goes up in flames. An M8 run so hot in traffic that the rear cylinder can break off the base of the cylinder. What is hot enough to cook a turkey all day? The heat put off by an M8 motor.
