@@MrMelonsz I like farket but I enjoy sotf he just seems like a grumpy old man now, I get it he thinks sons sucks but he’s not god and he can’t bring down a game that has a decent returning player base to a game he says “has no replay ability” I also understand that we look to him for game updates but I’ve since switched to people who are happy to do their job :) and cover content (yes I know he’s in game development but if he’s so pissy to stop and cover some updates for a game then just don’t do it. No game is going to be for 'everyone', and as we see, the more they try to make it for everyone, it loses the original audience. As for replayability, I kinda have to agree with Farket, I've run through it once all the way, and the other two times friends have convinced me to join them, we get about half way through and get bored, because we know whats coming next.(Same problem existed in The Forest too, for me.)
Isn't that how bows are used when right handed? Never seen a right handed person hold a bow the opposite side because the dominant arm is drawing the boosting

I never thought I'd get back to this but they finally did it! House boat is not broken like the the forest thou.. it takes literally forever to get anywhere xD Climbing rope is really good cause the water collectors are shorter, you can still jump up but its tricky. The advantage in the forest was that all of the entrances were easily accessible by the water so you could raft close to where you needed to go and have a base close by and mobile as soon as you get out. If you made a house boat day one in the forest you were basically set until you beat the game and unleashed the flying enemy. Mooring seems kinda pointless but it looks cool. really sick that you can carry a NV and a glider.. they need to let you add an additional platform onto the side so you can park a golf cart on the side xD

So the sons of the forest reached 1.0 nearly a year ago, and they didn't have any boats in the game, while in the original forest, they had buildable boats in version 0.02 back when the forest first launched in the summer of 2014. .🤷♂
Sounds like theyre essentially porting old code/assets from the Forest, as a developer myself this level of work after 9 months, even if a month or two was taken off for the whole team, is super sad, it's almost like a "take the money and run" scheme and there is little to no work getting done. A solo or duo dev team could get this done in a fraction of the time
Add a generator upgrade, custom boats, use for the kayaks (only boat able to travel upstream with the motor of course), athleticism and have the speed boost affect paddle speed; these will all make that update seem more worthwhile.
I wasn't going to watch this at first until I saw it myself, but after seeing the thumbnail and realizing it's literally the same 3 as before, I said screw it. I was really hoping they'd also add some uses for them. I hope they still do. Maybe some smaller islands and fishing at least. The bug fixes are nice though. Hopefully they get the bow dialed in and move that stupid laser from the top of the crossbow...
You know I felt the exact same way about sons of the forest until recently. I didn’t even replay the game after the 1.0 update and when I seen the new update the other day I said fuck it let me start a new game and I’m quite surprised. The game feels a lot better than it did when I last played it and now I’m really enjoying it actually. At one time Farket was cooperating with the developers frequently and something makes me think that that relationship turns sour but as far as the game goes, it seems quite packed. I’m finding tons of tons of things that I did not see in the game before there’s a lot more cannibal camps and other things around the map it’s starting to feel more complete

@sille4829 the game is amazing but after you beat it a couple times and spend more than 100 hours in game, it gets extremely dry. Nothing is rng and 3/4 of the map is worthless. I got bored of killing enemies and upgrading, and building was o ly fin for the first 30 hours or so before it became tedious. Overall the game has hours of wasted potential given how it started

me too, still playing the forest (80+ hours) and still enjoy it, sons of the forest less than 10 hours and i completely uninstall the game for a while now I don't think this game can be saved, never gonna buy another game from endnight that very clear of course

I bought the forest to play with my gf last December and I'm having a lot of fun with it. And finding your videos even if they are 6 years old was great, they are so fun to watch and most of if is still very relevant for the game. I wish you had more videos I can watch because I really liked your channel and the way you do your videos. But I heard you wanted to make your game in one of the videos. What kind of game is it? Is a survival game too? I would love to see the progress of it. And i think would probably be great because of all what you did and said about the forest and green hell. You really understand how things should be made. I'm really looking for it.
I wouldn't even have known that an update had come to sotf if Farket hadn't made the video. Because sotf is so underwhelming compared to 1. I loved part 1, but this update underlines that the developers never understood what made their own game so good in the first part. The whole early access phase, like this update, served to desperately bring back things that players liked in part 1, like the armsy mutant, building options, etc. Everything is so insignificant, the island is so huge that the cannibals, who don't even really fit into the environment in a meaningful way, can simply be ignored. no threats, everything is so big that you just run past them, why bother with them or waste time. The boats also make zero sense. You can really feel how the developers have their own vision for part 2, which was actually really good in its beginnings, only to then ignore everything in panic mode and dump fan service into the game. First they publicly emphasized that it was important to them to make something better, not just copy from the first. One thing which I really welcome. It would have been enough to simply make the island of sotf max. twice as large as part 1, the density of the environment would have brought back the threat of having to share the place with tribes, interesting places would not have been annoying to reach because they are closer to each other. but to do that they would have had to understand what made part 1 so good. oh what the heck, now that they're obviously not trying anything else, there's a hope that part 3 will be more like part 1, which is actually welcome. Let's just hope that this chaos of the trial with a number of unanswered questions and inconsistencies about religions, parallel universes and the like will finally be clarified sensibly and actually concluded. Here they have exaggerated massively. Please give us a Forest 3 again with a small island, fewer military weapons and more primitive tools, maybe a drone for flying and scouting, let's play old Eric looking for Timmy again and clarify the story sensibly while the game has a density of interesting places with good atmosphere delivers. Its shocking what gaming became in modern days, compared to the 2008 - 2014 era...
Loved The Forest, but SOTF can never live up to it for me, I thought SOTF was gonna blow The Forest out of the water when it comes to survival horror, atmosphere, mystery, & tension, but it turned out worse in those aspects. If they make a 3rd Forest game, I'm not gonna play it.
On our houseboat a Knight V in the Knight V holder disappeared on one of the reloads. The Shelf on top disappeared, and put all the stuff on the roof. Then when we moved it all disappeared.
Btw, I loved your build videos for both games. Great voice. Sad you did not want to return, but I get it. You do you for sure. I understand what you mean about replays. The limits (like not building in caves) kinda annoyed me. Don’t tell me how to play! But I also loved when you would work around the dumb ones. Anyway, glad you are doing well.
1. steam game recording is awsome. at least for content recording or casual clip recording since it records up to 120 minuets at a time in native resolution 2. its a bittersweet feeling watching games like payday 3 and sotf continue to get worse. one one hand I feel bad because of course I want them to be the best they can be, but I also feel vindicated in my "if it launches bad I will never play anything from that company again" stance since they are showing a failure to improve
Really don't see why they didn't just let us use the rafts/boats that are found around the map and attach the boat motor to the back, or at least make newer versions of the rafts that's kinda crazy it took this long to get the same old rafts that should've been in the game since day one. And that DIY helicopter mod deserves to be put in this game it fits so well
Haven't watched you since the release of the game. Before that I've watched you for years, and now when I clicked on that video I felt the nostalgia running through me with that intro... iconic!
I love the island design on SOTF, it's gorgeous. But yeah, no rivers makes the rafts fairly useless. I mean, I guess you could raft around the island to get to the other side to avoid enemies, but that takes so long. I prefer to build launch platforms all over. I'm replaying for the first time, but this time using console cheats. It's been pretty fun. I have like 6 Kelvins helping maintain my base. I spawned 10 Virginias, but only 2 ever seem to stay around your base when they become high enough sentiment to equip items. The others are stuck around random points of the map. I was hoping to build my own little defensive militia, lol.. I've also found it fun to pit cannibals and mutants/demons against each other. Like how many cannibals does it take to bring down the demon boss? About 20-25 haha. Or can my base defend against a horde of 200 cannibals??
Thank you for putting out this video despite having such feelings about this game and it's direction it took in comparison from the first game. I always watched your update videos, and learning that you were basically quitting the game it made me feel as if I wouldn't have that same update formula and direction your videos on it had. While I am glad you made this video, I would have for your sake, preferred if you hadn't if You honestly don't find enjoyment or fun in doing so. I know as a content creator who more or less was one of the big Forest channels, it's hard to branch away and retain your audience. I know in terms of revenue and income you probably don't have much of a choice, assuming you are doing TH-cam as a means of stable income, but I would hope you have luck in retaining what you had here but elsewhere.
Man I totally get you with the replay ability, I’ve played over 500 hours of the forest but I have 38 on the sons of the forest….. it’s really a shame and that’s after finishing it once and then joining friends for some time, it’s really sad how they went about releasing this game “in development” as it literally only worked for the forest because it was a new idea and they actually finished that idea before it even got popular
I saw someone complaining about there being no rafts a few days before this update. I bet they feel like the messiah manifesting this update, the devs were silent for like a year.
Both the holders are nice. Would have been awesome back when I was doing it. The walls are nice. I wonder if the outfit ill work on Virginia? Probably.

I have to agree with everything Farket is saying. This update is underwhelming for how long it’s been since the last update. It really feels like the developers lost their motivation. The game has so much potential. The map is huge and there are so many creative items and structures that could be added to the game. On top of fixing or improving off fighting/ building mechanics. The beta had me hooked, the updates kept the game fresh with them always adding to it. I don’t see why there can’t be a continuation of the story after so many days survived or something to keep people playing for the long term. The game is great as is, if you are doing a single play through but after that it leaves you desiring more. With the lack of updates what else is there to do? I have already built so many bases and cool structures. Breaking the game in some cases to create awesome things but after awhile of doing that what else is there?

One of my all time favorite games ever is The Forest. I couldn't wait! For sons of the forest to come out! I've legit forgot that sons of the forest was even a game until I was scrolling and seen this video pop up. Smh. I was so disappointed in the sons of the forest!! The biggest let down of my life. It just never captured The original Forest vibe, in my opinion.

havent played this game since launch with my friend and it is so much better, we had a ton of fun and the game is better now. I won't say that its good just because there is still a lot wrong with it but compared to the other slop games you could be playing, sons of the forest is a good choice
I feel kind of enh with SOTF. I liked The Forest for it's simplicity, while SOTF feels too complex for me. It does give more freedom to builds, but....anh, idk. Also, I stayed away from spoilers, until I realized the game is either never coming to consoles or still years away from it, and watched someone beat the game....I don't know if I'll ever do it. Maybe, who knows? I can beat The Forest really quick and have fun, but idk about this game. I've been playing The Forest more on PC lately, but I started playing it on console, and it really helped me learn the game on basic controls, and I feel I need that for SOTF. But who knows if it's ever coming to consoles. I hope to be able to fully enjoy it when it comes to consoles (if it does), and then enjoy it on PC, but we'll see. As of now, I'd say I feel let down, but I still play The Forest and have a blast with it, and especially multiplayer.

Yeah I was trying to go through and play this game and it feels like they spent all their time making a game LOOK pretty versus making the game have any significant substance. I really want to like this game, but the gameplay, progression, UI and design choices all seem to conflict with one another. They nailed the atmosphere, and again visuals are stunning at all times, but it feels like a completely different studio making the sequel to the OG game.
one hokey pokey covers two lenghts of buildings. i build a room four by four and eight hokey pokeys two on each siedem swingarm towards walls, make shure the spikes are an feet off the walls. what ever trys1 to crush the walls, maybe fire traps the corners, for the meat tornado on legs and,,, i you biuld high there is not so much wall to defend.
Im not good at building houses and stuff what I Was hoping they do in the future is add a bunch more blue prints that has different style houses and other stuff.

HE RETURNS, i'm so hype I want to put here that when I first played with the rafts, I found that while on the raft I believe my sensitivity went up. my camera was moving way faster while on the raft then when I was off of it. I can only assume since I have my sensitivity lower than default that the game sets it to default when on the rafts, or not, I honestly don't know. Has anyone else found that it to be the case that your sensitivity changed when on the rafts?
I look forward to seeing your game progress. It's such an exciting idea and I've been having fun dabbling in different games from my usual. I wonder if you (or fellow followers like me) would like Grounded. You can place blueprints and even click and drag to make larger platform, floor, or wall areas. If you have pallets with building materials you don't even have to carry the items to place them. The building reminds me of The Forest and finally helped me scratch that itch again, even if you can't make the shapes as unique it has a decent range of options. The weapon system is pretty interesting too, a wide range of weapons actually can work well, although melee tends to be better in single player and ranged as one part of a team.
So sad to hear that this is how SotF turned out. I'm doing a run with the CotF mod in the first game and it's quite a bit of fun. Been hoping to get SotF on discount for a while now, but hearing all this (they just added rafts again now?), and seeing other comments on here... I feel like I'll just save myself the money and disappointment. Best of luck to working on your own game. :)
Every now and again I watch a TH-camr whose videos I always watch... when they disappear for a while its kind of weird - you wonder where they have gone - are they ok etc etc ... You were a legend in your guides with the Forest. I watched you in the lead up to Sons and like you there was great anticipation. But also like you I was less than impressed with the sequel. They should have focused on the build mechanic and just improved on the original rather than all this other nonsense that just took away from what made the original so amazing. I have also long lost interest and I hear they are looking at a sequel. After this, I won't be bothering. Really sad as there was so much potential. Very curious to see what you create mate! Something tells me given all your experience and your journey to learn programming a game that you will create something quite awesome!

Nice to see you posting again. Picked up the game against after the update, hadn't played it since the may update last year. I don't know what they've done, but I swear they game has become buggier overtime. Kelvin's ai seems to have taken a major downgrade, and idk if it's just for this patch but they've done something to fundamentally break walls. Animals freely run through walls and there's a section of my base when enemies, kev and virg think they can just run through them. Daily cannibal attacks have just devolved into whole groups trying to pour through a section of solid wall. Telling kelvin to sharpen walls or pick things up just makes him sprint to that one section and try to run through it lol. I've replaced it and completely removed and reshaped it but the result is still the same. I also don't see cannibal patrols anywhere on the map anymore. I don't know if it's dumb luck or that something has really changed, but it seems like cannibal groups just teleport on you in leu of naturally finding you. Even in a fully walled in large section of map half the time I try to sleep it kicks me awake because a cannibal group seemingly just spawned inside my compound. I'm glad they're updating the game, but I swear compared to release day a great deal has degraded for one reason or another. its just confusing
Hey fark, check out the "detection" mechanism in far cry 3-4-5 like games, NPC ai can detect when player is clearly visible & can't when hiding behind stuff, I think you'd find interesting😮

I think I know why bows feel weird: you spend the game using most all of your tools right-handed, but bows are left-handed.

I actually really liked the placing walls one log at a time. it made it immersive, i especially loved sharpening the logs afterwards.

I wish you had more videos I can watch because I really liked your channel and the way you do your videos. But I heard you wanted to make your game in one of the videos. What kind of game is it? Is a survival game too? I would love to see the progress of it. And i think would probably be great because of all what you did and said about the forest and green hell. You really understand how things should be made. I'm really looking for it.
I wouldn't even have known that an update had come to sotf if Farket hadn't made the video. Because sotf is so underwhelming compared to 1. I loved part 1, but this update underlines that the developers never understood what made their own game so good in the first part. The whole early access phase, like this update, served to desperately bring back things that players liked in part 1, like the armsy mutant, building options, etc.
Everything is so insignificant, the island is so huge that the cannibals, who don't even really fit into the environment in a meaningful way, can simply be ignored. no threats, everything is so big that you just run past them, why bother with them or waste time. The boats also make zero sense. You can really feel how the developers have their own vision for part 2, which was actually really good in its beginnings, only to then ignore everything in panic mode and dump fan service into the game. First they publicly emphasized that it was important to them to make something better, not just copy from the first. One thing which I really welcome. It would have been enough to simply make the island of sotf max. twice as large as part 1, the density of the environment would have brought back the threat of having to share the place with tribes, interesting places would not have been annoying to reach because they are closer to each other. but to do that they would have had to understand what made part 1 so good.
oh what the heck, now that they're obviously not trying anything else, there's a hope that part 3 will be more like part 1, which is actually welcome. Let's just hope that this chaos of the trial with a number of unanswered questions and inconsistencies about religions, parallel universes and the like will finally be clarified sensibly and actually concluded. Here they have exaggerated massively. Please give us a Forest 3 again with a small island, fewer military weapons and more primitive tools, maybe a drone for flying and scouting, let's play old Eric looking for Timmy again and clarify the story sensibly while the game has a density of interesting places with good atmosphere delivers.
Its shocking what gaming became in modern days, compared to the 2008 - 2014 era...
Loved The Forest, but SOTF can never live up to it for me, I thought SOTF was gonna blow The Forest out of the water when it comes to survival horror, atmosphere, mystery, & tension, but it turned out worse in those aspects.
If they make a 3rd Forest game, I'm not gonna play it.

On our houseboat a Knight V in the Knight V holder disappeared on one of the reloads. The Shelf on top disappeared, and put all the stuff on the roof. Then when we moved it all disappeared.
Btw, I loved your build videos for both games. Great voice. Sad you did not want to return, but I get it. You do you for sure. I understand what you mean about replays. The limits (like not building in caves) kinda annoyed me. Don’t tell me how to play! But I also loved when you would work around the dumb ones. Anyway, glad you are doing well.
1. steam game recording is awsome. at least for content recording or casual clip recording since it records up to 120 minuets at a time in native resolution
2. its a bittersweet feeling watching games like payday 3 and sotf continue to get worse. one one hand I feel bad because of course I want them to be the best they can be, but I also feel vindicated in my "if it launches bad I will never play anything from that company again" stance since they are showing a failure to improve

Really don't see why they didn't just let us use the rafts/boats that are found around the map and attach the boat motor to the back, or at least make newer versions of the rafts that's kinda crazy it took this long to get the same old rafts that should've been in the game since day one. And that DIY helicopter mod deserves to be put in this game it fits so well

Haven't watched you since the release of the game. Before that I've watched you for years, and now when I clicked on that video I felt the nostalgia running through me with that intro... iconic!
I love the island design on SOTF, it's gorgeous. But yeah, no rivers makes the rafts fairly useless.
I mean, I guess you could raft around the island to get to the other side to avoid enemies, but that takes so long. I prefer to build launch platforms all over.
I'm replaying for the first time, but this time using console cheats. It's been pretty fun. I have like 6 Kelvins helping maintain my base. I spawned 10 Virginias, but only 2 ever seem to stay around your base when they become high enough sentiment to equip items. The others are stuck around random points of the map.
I was hoping to build my own little defensive militia, lol..
I've also found it fun to pit cannibals and mutants/demons against each other. Like how many cannibals does it take to bring down the demon boss? About 20-25 haha. Or can my base defend against a horde of 200 cannibals??
I want this for PlayStation.

Thank you for putting out this video despite having such feelings about this game and it's direction it took in comparison from the first game. I always watched your update videos, and learning that you were basically quitting the game it made me feel as if I wouldn't have that same update formula and direction your videos on it had. While I am glad you made this video, I would have for your sake, preferred if you hadn't if You honestly don't find enjoyment or fun in doing so. I know as a content creator who more or less was one of the big Forest channels, it's hard to branch away and retain your audience. I know in terms of revenue and income you probably don't have much of a choice, assuming you are doing TH-cam as a means of stable income, but I would hope you have luck in retaining what you had here but elsewhere.

Man I totally get you with the replay ability, I’ve played over 500 hours of the forest but I have 38 on the sons of the forest….. it’s really a shame and that’s after finishing it once and then joining friends for some time, it’s really sad how they went about releasing this game “in development” as it literally only worked for the forest because it was a new idea and they actually finished that idea before it even got popular

I have to agree with everything Farket is saying. This update is underwhelming for how long it’s been since the last update. It really feels like the developers lost their motivation. The game has so much potential. The map is huge and there are so many creative items and structures that could be added to the game. On top of fixing or improving off fighting/ building mechanics. The beta had me hooked, the updates kept the game fresh with them always adding to it. I don’t see why there can’t be a continuation of the story after so many days survived or something to keep people playing for the long term.
The game is great as is, if you are doing a single play through but after that it leaves you desiring more. With the lack of updates what else is there to do? I have already built so many bases and cool structures. Breaking the game in some cases to create awesome things but after awhile of doing that what else is there?
I know you are not that interested in the Forest/SotF anymore but maybe a playtrough of the OG the forest would be fun to do.

havent played this game since launch with my friend and it is so much better, we had a ton of fun and the game is better now. I won't say that its good just because there is still a lot wrong with it but compared to the other slop games you could be playing, sons of the forest is a good choice

I feel kind of enh with SOTF. I liked The Forest for it's simplicity, while SOTF feels too complex for me. It does give more freedom to builds, but....anh, idk. Also, I stayed away from spoilers, until I realized the game is either never coming to consoles or still years away from it, and watched someone beat the game....I don't know if I'll ever do it. Maybe, who knows? I can beat The Forest really quick and have fun, but idk about this game. I've been playing The Forest more on PC lately, but I started playing it on console, and it really helped me learn the game on basic controls, and I feel I need that for SOTF. But who knows if it's ever coming to consoles. I hope to be able to fully enjoy it when it comes to consoles (if it does), and then enjoy it on PC, but we'll see. As of now, I'd say I feel let down, but I still play The Forest and have a blast with it, and especially multiplayer.

I played the first forest for years. This one for months.
Yeah I was trying to go through and play this game and it feels like they spent all their time making a game LOOK pretty versus making the game have any significant substance. I really want to like this game, but the gameplay, progression, UI and design choices all seem to conflict with one another. They nailed the atmosphere, and again visuals are stunning at all times, but it feels like a completely different studio making the sequel to the OG game.

i build a room four by four and eight hokey pokeys two on each siedem swingarm towards walls, make shure the spikes are an feet off the walls.
what ever trys1 to crush the walls, maybe fire traps the corners, for the meat tornado on legs and,,, i you biuld high there is not so much wall to defend.

I want to put here that when I first played with the rafts, I found that while on the raft I believe my sensitivity went up. my camera was moving way faster while on the raft then when I was off of it. I can only assume since I have my sensitivity lower than default that the game sets it to default when on the rafts, or not, I honestly don't know. Has anyone else found that it to be the case that your sensitivity changed when on the rafts?

I look forward to seeing your game progress. It's such an exciting idea and I've been having fun dabbling in different games from my usual.
I wonder if you (or fellow followers like me) would like Grounded. You can place blueprints and even click and drag to make larger platform, floor, or wall areas. If you have pallets with building materials you don't even have to carry the items to place them. The building reminds me of The Forest and finally helped me scratch that itch again, even if you can't make the shapes as unique it has a decent range of options. The weapon system is pretty interesting too, a wide range of weapons actually can work well, although melee tends to be better in single player and ranged as one part of a team.
Great video. Just wanted to say that I personally love the way building is done in this game compared to the first one, not everyone hates it.

So sad to hear that this is how SotF turned out. I'm doing a run with the CotF mod in the first game and it's quite a bit of fun. Been hoping to get SotF on discount for a while now, but hearing all this (they just added rafts again now?), and seeing other comments on here... Every now and again I watch a TH-camr whose videos I always watch... when they disappear for a while its kind of weird - you wonder where they have gone - are they ok etc etc ... Your one of them - shame SOTF is the way it is - I think EN should have used your valuable input (along with your subscribers) This is what developers miss - they have all the feedback they need to make a great game Legendary if they choose to use it - Glad you are back and one way or the other.

You were a legend in your guides with the Forest. I watched you in the lead up to Sons and like you there was great anticipation. But also like you I was less than impressed with the sequel. They should have focused on the build mechanic and just improved on the original rather than all this other nonsense that just took away from what made the original so amazing. I have also long lost interest and I hear they are looking at a sequel. After this, I won't be bothering. Really sad as there was so much potential. Very curious to see what you create mate! Something tells me given all your experience and your journey to learn programming a game that you will create something quite awesome!

Nice to see you posting again. Picked up the game against after the update, hadn't played it since the may update last year. I don't know what they've done, but I swear they game has become buggier overtime. Kelvin's ai seems to have taken a major downgrade, and idk if it's just for this patch but they've done something to fundamentally break walls. Animals freely run through walls and there's a section of my base when enemies, kev and virg think they can just run through them. Daily cannibal attacks have just devolved into whole groups trying to pour through a section of solid wall. Telling kelvin to sharpen walls or pick things up just makes him sprint to that one section and try to run through it lol. I've replaced it and completely removed and reshaped it but the result is still the same. I also don't see cannibal patrols anywhere on the map anymore. I don't know if it's dumb luck or that something has really changed, but it seems like cannibal groups just teleport on you in leu of naturally finding you. Even in a fully walled in large section of map half the time I try to sleep it kicks me awake because a cannibal group seemingly just spawned inside my compound. I'm glad they're updating the game, but I swear compared to release day a great deal has degraded for one reason or another. its just confusing
Hey fark, check out the "detection" mechanism in far cry 3-4-5 like games,
NPC ai can detect when player is clearly visible & can't when hiding behind stuff, I think you'd find interesting😮
