The Outer Worlds is a video game that has a release date, and people made it. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it somewhere in between those that actually require some kind of nuance? Watch this video to find out.
idk why but the quote "The apocalypse was a group project" hit unexpectedly hard
Brilliant video as always.
That is such a good line
Its so great to see a reviewer who gets it; Hyperjingoist capitalism in Fallout is a BYPRODUCT of the hubris and greed that caused the great war, not it's source.
Communists Fighting Socialists to see who can get their asses kicked by fascists ? So this game takes place in the Spanish civil war ?

Yeah no I have nothing to add to that.
Also, as a Michigander, lmao, did not expect a Mackinac Island reference
EDIT: Nice to see John Gonzalez get the respect he deserves. Everyone leaves him out and just credits Sawyer and Avellone for FNV despite the fact he wrote like 70% of the game

You weren't lying, when telling that OW is very forgettable. I played it a year ago, and I remember almost nothing from the footage you've shown.
I always forget that I beat it 2 times.
I forgot the name of the full abbreviation of OW and had to look at the title, that’s how forgettable it is.
Overwatch
Trying to remember anything about OW feels like trying to remember a dream or a concussion.
I legitimately couldn’t describe a single scene from it if I tried. Shame considering it was trying to be New Vegas but IN SPAAACE.
What also sucks is trying to recommend people The Outer Wilds, and they end up getting Outer Worlds instead and tell me the games bad. Then I find out they played the wrong fucking game (true story involving one of my buddies btw)
The Outer Worlds is something that feels like it was made more as a "fuck you" to Bethesda, Instead of a genuinely enjoyable game.
When it comes to The Outer Worlds, the game is actually related to "fuck you" Bethesda, but it didn't come from the game but from the gamers. After the premiere of The Outer Worlds, all gamers undeservedly praised this game to the skies, out of spite for Todd and company, but when the emotions subsided and everyone saw that they had exaggerated a bit, in order to balance things out, gamers started complaining a bit excessively about The Outer Worlds, which has never hidden the fact that it is not a AAA game, but an AA one.
@@helloScuffedThe problem is the writing which has little to do with funding
I had fun playing it all the way through, I merely felt its story was underwhelming.
I think that was entirely because this game was announced at the same time that Fallout 76 came out to unanimous outrage. Of course, after the internet calmed down and Bethesda started patching the games, opinions were quick to switch.
@@dioniscaraus6124 The "problem" with bad writing is one of many double standards in the gaming industry. And I will leave this topic on that.
I do have one funny story from Outer Worlds; when I was getting ready to do the mission where you enter the Pink Crack Ice Cream factory I randomly decided to take the Robot along because... I hadn't taken him anywhere at that point and I wanted to know what if anything that he did. So I go to the Pink Crack Ice Cream factory, and first thing I see on my radar is a million red pips and every last one of them is a robot. My Anti-Robot gun was completely out of ammo and I think any Anti-Robot Melee weapons would have been on a different companion, so combat was just going to suck.
I get into a Dialogue Screen with the first Security Droid at the front. "Lockdown is in effect, leave or be terminated."
The camera turns to S.A.M. and that random decision to bring the Roomba goes; "[Luck 7] Ice Cream."
The security bot goes "Oh shit, you right." and every last red pip disappeared once Dialogue ended. I walked through the facility, snagged the thing for the diet toothpaste guy, and never had to fire a shot because I randomly went "I haven't taken S.A.M. with me yet, sure." on the Companion screen.
"I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. And, for some f*cking reason, they're speaking Vietnamese. The trees can't be harmed if the lorax is armed." My new favorite quote

Great summary at the end, pretty much matches my impressions, especially the quaint anti-corporatism. (Reminded me of Cyberpunk, where it’s actually amusing considering how violently murderous practically everyone you meet in the city is.) Outer Worlds was fun for around 10 hrs for me, but I never felt compelled to continue playing. Tried twice now and never got beyond that point.
Some good dialogue writing, though. For example:
* In response to someone who mentions a nuanced situation, “If I wanted to deal with nuance, I wouldn’t be so heavily armed.”
* At an intimidation check, “Would you accept payment in wanton violence?”
* An insurance sales pitch, “We’re running a special on dismemberment policies. Buy one, get one half off.”
* A: They say discretion is a virtue. B: You ain’t wrong, but I prefer a man of vice, myself.
“Even at his Lois, he Griffining his all.”
May be my favourite pun ever. Kudos.
Technically factually speaking you did not get Parvati laid. That’s like the one thing you specifically do not do

This is a better advertisement for The Outer Worlds than anything I have ever seen. You have somehow made the game look fun.
its fun if you actually try. roll low intelligence, spec into melee with the gravity hammer... and enact your preferred timeline on the world. i feel like ppl dont experiment at all in a game and then claim its cookie cutter lol.
@TeddyParker See, I refused to play it because the story looked like a cross between Borderlands and Lonesome Road. I dislike both of those, so I was not interested.
@@Riley_Mundt it seemed like lonesome road? i dont see that at all. it def doesnt have the FNV story style. sadly if anything it compares a bit to FO3 in terms of main story. but like FO3 and 4 I don't think the real hook of the game is the main story beats. honestly a lot of games fall flat on their main story beats.
its literally everything else that conjures up a lot of charm and flavor. from side quests to companions to wacky combat and items (seriously look up science weapons). and the fun stuff isnt hidden. the terminal ON THE SHIP is what shows you science weapon locations. and all companions are put on the path of the main story.
its honestly airtight game design but thats what people dont like lol... they want chaotic bethesda jank tbh

Fallout 4s is 5/10: it’s serviceable but often forgettable and not great, similar to a lot of CODS writing.
Outer Worlds is a 3/10: it gets repetitive in a bad way and has somehow less depth than a lot of 4s factions because that at least had the question of “are machines people?” in it occasionally. It’s awful (to me at least) but fuck it, I can push through.
Ride to Hell is a 1/10: it’s boring, frustrating, without ANY logic what so ever, filled to the BRIM with “sex for sex sake”, and from the start you want to split your head open. It’s absolute garbage of the worst variety.

It was okay, far too short for it be considered “great”, there was a decent amount of personal choice and some funny jokes, but the very low enemy variety and some of the areas are very empty.

First video I see of yours and I honestly really liked it. I don't _want_ to compare you to Max0r, mainly because I don't like comparing people and let that be all there is too it, I'd much rather let them stand on their own merit, but as someone who was recommended your stuff from a "if you like Max0r, check out this guy" perspective, I might actually like your video more. Better sound mixing (at least imo) and the quick, snappy editing style while not being at an absolute breakneck speed with millions of details flashing all at once made me feel like I could more easily keep up while still being thoroughly entertained is a nice sort-of middle ground that I quite enjoyed.
Also the short "full thoughts" part was super nice. I got to hear your actual feelings, get a bit more of an overview that gave the earlier jokes more context, and it was a nice wind down that made sure the video didn't feel like it stopped kind of abruptly. Keep up the good job.
Congrats on the 113K subs. You definitely deserve them.
My biggest regret is missing the other half of Pavarotti"s side quest. Never getting her that date with the Groundbreaker leader.
Also that final boss sucks if you get robo phobia.
24:42, yes grounded is goated game, even tho it's a survival rpg game combat there is WAY TOO GOOD for that kind of a game, if you skilled enough you can run a glass cannon build while just parrying everything, and if you're not, get a heavy armour, a shield and tank everythnig, there's also different skill build options you can change on a fly, try it out, it's a lot of fun, and it does rpg element very well for a game not even advertised as rpg with mmo elements (as you can play a 4 play coop), i didn't expect much from that game, but i got a lot of fun from it

Yeah I enjoyed the The Outer Worlds when it came out. Didn't play the DLC so I got 100% completion in like 27 hours. It is a fun game, but it really suffers from being too short and having very bland combat with little else to mix it up with.
Still, their focus on small teams with interesting ideas gives me hope. It showed with Tyrrany (another Obsidian RPG that hopefully gets a sequel one day) and it's why I have hope for Avowed next year.
I was wondering how long it would take for a Vicar Max French joke...on a serious note, the only thing in this game that wasn't completely forgettable were the companions. There's like 6 enemies across the entire game and the weapons start off good until you realize that all the rest of the games weapons are just "previous weapon 2.0" and its a shame cuz there really is a charm underneath it all.

This game really was one of the games ever made. It shot itself in the foot at every opportunity. It was fairly polished, just uninspired. Hopefully the sequel is what we really wanted.
The game is a very solid RPG. I don't know what you people are smoking.
Well fellas, it's time to jump back into the freezer while we wait for the next Big Beak video
That conclusion was very well done, got my sub.
outer wilds is the game we all confuse for outer wilds
no, you're thinking of outer worlds, not outer worlds
As much as I hate using the word "potential" for anything (we have personal beef), I think it's the best choice to describe Outer Worlds. The world-building is there. The design is there. The gameplay needs a little more polish--it's far too easy to become over-powered. And the complexity of quest outcomes is *almost* there. If they can take this as a rough draft, the next game has the potential to be amazing. That was my immediate thought after finishing it the first time. I replayed it last year just to play through the DLC (bought them cheap during a sale), and I never really had any negative feelings toward the game. I just wanted MORE. More exploring of things that aren't quest-related, more hidden gems, more variety of mobs, etc. It's really hard not to want the things something like New Vegas offered when the comparison was hammered into all the hype around it to begin with.
Big Beak my hero, thank you
