I appreciate seeing three methods when repairing the water damaged base. The multi tool carve out, for lack of appropriate term, was brilliant for the front piece of base. These repairs are a great approach over just cutting the base off. Best!!
Yes they were worth saving. Beautiful work. Here where I live laminate top mid century is hard to sell and all the dealers are veneering it to make it sellable. My house is full of it, I love it. I think maybe its because i was a kid in the 60s and remember it being all the rage. My parents and grandparents praised it for being so durable. So i usually buy laminate peices for myself.
@@jaynefrederickson5058 when you are reselling furniture sometimes the smaller projects get pushed aside for the more profitable ones. But definitely the small ones are where most people start! 😉
They all turned out beautiful! Saving furniture from the landfill is always a plus. Now these pieces can live for many more years! Awesome video and job! 😊❤
This is such beautiful work. I’m particularly impressed by the repair of the water damaged chipboard, because I’m probably one of the people who would’ve pitched it.
So much to comment on in this post. The little end table turned out great. Walnut is my favorite wood so I was glad for the veneer. A black stain on the legs would have been dramatic with the walnut. How do you plan to attach the cleat to the back of the mirror. I need to hang a large mirror for my son and the cleat idea is best I think. For a “novice” I think the retouching on the Bondo repairs was great. The water damage repair was good too. Gotta remember that. Lastly your videos have the best music. So glad I found your channel.
Thanks for all your nice comments! ☺️ Yes I agree, walnut and black paint is a classic combo. And I am going to do a French cleat across the back , if you look up French cleat on wikipedia you will see exactly what I will be doing. I did one years ago for a really heavy mirror and frame that I had in my entrance way at my last house and it worked great. The mirror frame is solid walnut so screwing the cleat into the frame will be no problems. I will just make it wide enough so I can place 2 screw and each end. And thanks for tuning in! 😊
I didnt get my notification yesterday 😢. I hit the notify button again so I hope it works. I enjoy hitting the like button in the first hour and after 3 minutes. It helps the channel 😂. I had free time yesterday, so yeah!
I have the liquor cabinet/ book shelf. My mom bought it new. I use it as a secretary desk, since a dont need a liquor cabinet. So satisfying when you cleaned the top of it! Ugh!😂
All projects matter even the small ones so I thoroughly enjoyed watching them 😊 Your Mum foldings those shop towels so precisely was so sweet and so satisfying too (I am a tad OCD 😂). I had to laugh at myself during this. When you were showing the damage to the bottom of the cabinet I was thinking oh put glue in via a syringe and clamp it together it will harden the fibers but for the life of me I couldn't remember what channel I watch I had seen that trick on then lo and behold that's precisely what you did so it's a strong possibility it was your channel I saw it on originally 😳😳🤣🤣
So much to see and learn from in this video. Great work on all of them!❤ I had a very similar bookcase/liquor cabinet that I got rid of when we moved house…before I fully appreciated MCM pieces 😢It’s lovely that you’ve given this a new life.
They all turned out great. With the goalie mask I would have used several coats of gatarhide from Dixie Bell paint it's a tough finish . Prayers 🙏 and Love From Oklahoma
Focusing Your Attention on Three Pieces (And the Bonuses) at the Same time is Impressive! I Couldn't do It. They all came out Really Nice! The Teak piece was the Best because of Your Finesse on Reconstructing the base. You went in like a Surgeon, Dr.MCM! How did You repurpose the Mirror? You said it was heavy. Could it be hung on a wall?
Loved the video and seeing three projects plus two bonus’ what a deal. As always I learned so much and enjoy the format of your videos, and of course the finished results are beautiful! I was so happy to see the first project as I wondered if anyone ever replaced the laminate or rather placed veneer over the laminate on MCM side and coffee tables or dressers something I have wanted to do for quite a while. We have a quite a few MCM laminated top pieces in my central WA state location that appear on FBMP, and it surprises me they try to sell them for what a walnut veneer from the factory piece would generally go for.. and they sit… and they sit… and they languish till they are either removed from being listed or end up selling for $40/piece. Now I will say in my region no one wants to pay what a piece is worth and they expect it to be yard sale prices for premium trendy furniture so not surprising laminated pieces sit but my question is, are they are as valuable as a wood piece from factory and is it good business sense to put veneer over laminated tops for a region that doesn’t mind spending money for quality? What are your thoughts, how do you determine pricing for these special pieces in your area? Thanks again for the wonderful video it is a joy to watch you work!
Pricing is such a wide-ranging topic. Things that sell in my area for a certain price may not sell in your area for the same. My market is the metropolitan area of Toronto. Mid-century is very much in demand and generally I can get good prices for veneer mcm pieces. Laminate pieces are a different story. Much like your area, they don't sell for much. If I had painted this piece I probably would get maybe $75-100 for a single end table, but by veneering the top $150-$175. And of course end-tables and nightstands go for a lot more when in pairs. And my pricing strategy just comes from trial and error! 🤣. Thanks for tuning in!
@@mcmredo Thank you for taking the time to respond so thoroughly to my question, it means so much. I agree if it had been painted it would have been a different story. Its funny that in some ways our areas of the continent are similar in that MCM is so much in demand I think what is different though in my area the majority are older people and so these treasures have been handed down through generations so there hasn’t been a need to purchase them, hence they don’t sell for much until you get to the Seattle metro area.
I enjoyed this video. I have one question about the mirror. It looks like you used odie’s oil over stain. What type of stain was it? Can you use odie’s oil over general finishes gel stain? Thanks for your input!
Yes and yes. The stain is General Finish in the colour nutmeg. Odie’s work well over the stain. Just make sure the stain is completely dried out before applying Odie’s. ☺️

Wow, Wow and WOW! A hat trick of awesome finishes! And your mom is so lovely folding the cloths squarely--my OCD blesses her for that 😀.

Great projects! I would have sealed the bottom edge of the bookcase so that the particle board doesn’t swell again.
Good idea! I'm just hoping the new owners place it somewhere dry! 🤣
@@mcmredo If they put it on a hard surface floor, they will have to mop. I believe that’s what damaged it originally.
