This sweet little mid-century record cabinet should have been a quick flip. Lots of mishaps, and many bad decisions along the way, but 4 months after I start the refinish I finally get it done. Watch as I work my through a veneer challenge!

Thanks. I haven’t had such a piece in a long time! Maybe it was just the head space I was in. Couldn’t make a sound decision if my life depended on it! 😂
Maybe this is why some flippers paint the top or body? But you hang in there and brought it back to the original look of walnut. It turned out great too!

With contact cement, you should use slats of wood between the veneer and the base. Then, remove one at a time while sticking down the veneer.

When placing veneer you need to place small strips of wood on the top first before placing the veneer on top and gradually pulling out the strips of wood as you place the veneer on the top it saves you a lot of headaches. Good luck next time. Iron on veneer is easier. Prayers 🙏 and Love 🤟 From Oklahoma
@@gingerdunn6590 I have seen people do the dowel trick. I will have to try it. The wax paper worked ok. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any reasonably priced iron on veneer! Believe me I would have bought it! 🤣 Thanks for the suggestions!
Thank you for sending me a message. I know veneer can be extremely expensive. Sorry you couldn't find a good iron on at a reasonable price. I have so many different places close to me that I can buy veneer Fairly cheap. Sometimes they will even order what I need if they don't have it in stock. prayers 🙏 and Love 🤟 From Oklahoma
This is so relatable! I wonder, could you just have used toner on the top to blend or was there just too much contrast with the stains?
I did use toner on the top only. And it did take care of all the discolouration but it was the wavy sides that I couldn't wrap my head around. So in the end that was my reason for the re-veneering. I am just glad that it's done! 🤣

I noticed that when you sprayed the stripper on the top, it seemed to bead up a bit. Made me wonder if there was contamination like wax or furniture polish on it which prevented the stripper from wetting the surface completely. You didn’t mention cleaning before you started stripping. I have never used Stripwell so I’m just wondering. I enjoy your videos so keep up the good work. 😁
@@thomasbagwell4510 Thanks for the kind words. I wiped the cabinet down before stripper. But usually a good stripper just eats through everything! So I am still not sure about Stripwell. I will give it another go in a future project! 🙂

I knew it would end up being reveneered :) was there an option to flatten the old wavy edges by cutting into them and reglueing them? Great job btw :)
@@fjklfdasdf The substrate had swollen so the only way to flatten was to remove some of it. I really don’t know what took me so long to realize it. But hey, you live and learn! 😅 Thanks for watching!
