Not really, it does still have a thicker foam foot bed underfoot so your entire boot is still raised up off the board. If there is any difference it's so minimal that it wouldn't make any noticeable difference in clearance of your toes and heels.
Great video. Very clear and helpful. I was considering putting reflex malavitas on my 2007 burton royale board that has the 3d mounting orientation and cartels circa 2011. Based on the video i think it is safe to say it is time to upgrade my all mountain freestyle board to a newer channel board and to get est malavitas.
OH snap, I do remember the Royale, pretty dope board but you are right it's proabaly a good time to upgrade. I would check out the Process, it's kind of the next step in evolution over the years from the Royale. As for bindings if you like your Cartels I would just stick with a new set of Cartel EST's. There has been A LOT of advancements since 2011 and the Cartel is a completely different binding (for the better). interesting. i wish i could remember his exact words, but I remember speaking to a Burton shop guy once and he definitely preferred the Re:Flex. personally I move my bindings between boards so it didn't matter to me. also, I notice the Step Ons are all Re:Flex except for the Mine collection. regardless: great info!!
Yeah, I don't hear it that often but it always floors me too when people say they like the Reflex more. Also though aside from wanting to be able to switch to non-channel boards (which is a GREAT reason to go ReFlex) their reasoning never makes much sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. All of that being said keep your eyes peeled for 24/25 StepOn EST's hitting the regular lineup, we'll have more on that later on in the year!
great review, i personally ride with Burton freestyle (my third pair) i like the surfy feeling of mid-soft bindings 😁. So i ride a reflex binding because my good value for money are only with the reflex option 👍🤣

Great review! Help me a lot. I’m considering buying a binding only for the Burton Fish 3D I just purchased. Should I go for the Genesis EST binding? Cause like what you and some other guys mentioned, EST bindings have better feeling. Or would the Atlas or Falcor could be a better choice?
I’m riding a Jones mountain twin just got this year. I need to get bindings and wanted to go with Burton. I’m debating between genesis reflex and cartel? I only ride groomed runs and trees and powder when possible. Any help is appreciated. I don’t do any park riding
Either bindings would be great on that board. Personally I LOVE the Genesis, for the extra $$ it has a lot of good upgrades. Super comfy and smooth riding bindings that are still very responsive. The Cartel Re:Flex comes with a 4 hole Binding baseplate. If you have an older Burton board with the 3D mounting system you can buy those separately on Burton's site.
Does the EST change your mobility and ability to open up your stance (specifically on teh heel side). What I mean is when you make a heelside turn and rotate your back leg slightly, does the EST offer any tigher/looser feel in regards to that or change it in any way?
PLEASE TELL ME THIS, WHY ARE MY BURTON CARTEL BINDINGS STICKY LIKE GLUE TO THE TOUCH ? TELL ME, WHY ? AND USED ONLY A FEW SEASONS ? WTF ? They're not cheap. I PAID GOOD CASH FOR THEM, TELL ME WHY I SHOULD BUY burton ever again ? Not a soul can give me a straight answer !!!#%&
Some coatings on plastics react with temperature, prolonged UV exposure, oils, etc and become sticky. This is not something that happens with all plastics and does not effect the durability. It is also not exclusive to Burton or even snowboard bindings. This can happen to literally anything made out of plastic that has these specific additives and is exposed to certain conditions. Even someone else with the exact same bindings as you might not experience the same thing. 🤷♂
I picked up a set of 2014 Burton Lexa at a garage sale. Didn't want the binding, just the board they were attached to so why not. They are sticky AF. We live in the woods and they were covered in pine tree pollen at the time, it was fall and they must have been like that since spring allergy season. I really thought it was the pollen. Cleaned many times first with water, then dish soap. Pollen came off, sticky remains! Sucks, but they are old and probably past their useful life anyways. We only use them for spare parts in a pinch.
This is one of the best channels I've found for snowboard tech advice and reviews. I'm a huge fan!!
Much appreciated, feel free to share the vids everywhere 😜!
Does the EST actually bring the boot closer to the board? In other words, does it create a need for a wider board in some cases? Thanks!!

Are there certain conditions or riding types you would want a larger dead spot from a disk where it would give you an advantage?
Not really the better your board can bend with its natural flex, the better it will ride everywhere.

How about the 2020 cartel vs 2024 Cartel do they make any difference? in terms of riding feel
The 23/24 Cartel had the newer highback with a little more freedom of movement side to side and it does have a better fitting toes strap.
I, wonder if they ever make est on the step on .
They have made Limited Edition versions as part of the Mine77 collections to test the waters a bit. Could be some coming soon, only time will tell.
OK, thanks one more question which binding will match with the custom camber 150 ?

EST bindings has a range of 30 degress in both directions so you can move it to a single degree if you wanted to.
