Cement verges done the proper way are still the best system , plastic verges look good , quick and easy ,no cement to mix that’s why they are used , laths to outside for fixing , never !
Bed on last tile , point to outside of tile the next day . 1960s style . No good pointing in after roof is finished .

The number of times I see roofers pointing up with such a thin layer of mortar, then it falls out within a year, the tiles must be bedded on in one go a d not bedded on then scraped back and then pointed up the next day,it's easy to do it that way that's why they do it bit it's not the right way,if you can't point it up properly leave it alone altogether

Just drove past the house , it now has dryverge system on it , spoke to owners they said it only lasted 6mths then fell out during frost

Maybe this wont fall out because the FlexiPoint he is using adheres to the old mortar. I haven’t used FlexiPoint but as its a compound it may act different than does mortar which we know is affected by frost etc.

Better way to do it than that, rip the gable off, re bed it like it should be done,,

Why are you going over old mortar .if you say that it will crack .i smell a con here

i dont think john covered over old mortar bed! did he? i think the dry verge system is a far better job than any wet work in this case the dry verge system could of been used to hide those shitty looking wires below the overhang.

Go over it with a damp sponge after you've put the cement on

Clean out old mortar and dampen down verge you could use a weak mix of PVA
Use a 4- 1 mix, 3 building sand 1 sharp sand 1 cement But obviously mix larger quantities and add mortar plasticer, use part rapid set cement and the mortar won't bag out, sets brilliant and won't crack.
Flexibond! Old stuff needs to come out
      Have a go fella

I thought the same, but I'm doing the exact same job and I got a grindette to slot and score the existing cement to act as a key.

This is horrible to watch and will give bona fide roofing contractors a bad name.
