I was six years of age when I first heard this song on the radio, even at the mere age of six I was hooked by the amount of passion and energy in your song "I'd Love To Change The Word". I'm pushing 60 now and I credit Alvin Lee, yourself and the remaining musicians who formed your band Ten Years After for recording such a wonderful, powerful and yet melodic song for turning me on to music, it's something that I've always looked to for inspiration. With the internet and sites like TH-cam I can now go back and watch so many excellent bands in concert. Recently I watched an entire Ten Years After Concert at the Fillmore and was just blown away by the passion your band had for playing live. I mean Alvin Lee was just unbelievable in the way he has a command over his red gibson 335, but I got to tell you I just loved the way he came over to one Leo Lyons playing bass like nobody's business, played along a bit while clearly approving of the incredible amount of energy and tempo you were rolling along your bass line with. Alvin was ripping it up and he knew Leo Lyons was doing the same. I've been to literally hundreds of rock concerts, that was my thing for nearly three decades, and I can't recall any band performing with more intensity and sonic goodness than Ten Years After in concert at Winterland circa 1975. Thanks Leo, you still sound great, I appreciate your music and good nature.

I was born 18 years after this song was released. Heard it for the first time last night in S8E18 of NBC's The Blacklist, *REALLY* loved the bassline, wanted to check a bass cover, and found your video completely missing the point that you actually *were* Ten Years After's bassist! I'm blown away. Thank you, Leo!
I've just discovered your channel, thank you very much for sharing your stories and this wonderful bass video of one of my all-time favorite songs! I love the happiness on your face all through the song. Greetings from Mexico!
Great to see you've still got it Leo. I saw you in Wimborne Minster a few years ago and I don't think I've ever seen anyone look so happy when they play. You've been my favourite bass player for over 50 years now, the only person I've seen live who comes close was Larry Taylor of Canned Heat when they toured the UK in about '69/70.
Standing at the Station 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain Good Morning Little Schoolgirl I really started listening to TYA in 1971 at age 13. My brother is 12 years younger than me. When I was 18, and he was 6, my mother told him the lyrics to Good Morning Little Schoolgirl were “I wanna play ball with you”
Love the sound of the Rickenbacker on the track -Thanks for doing the TH-cam channel. I was blown away by TYA a basically listened to the tapes until they wouldn’t work anymore through the early 70s. Blown away by the bass, the guitar, vocals, lyrics and the drums. I just really dug the sound. Well done!.
Hi Leo, I'm learning to play bass and came looking for clarity on some of Change the World , and found the best version available, which of course was yours! Very happy to discover you playing this. Thank you for sharing and helping me advance. Its so fun to watch you enjoying playing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great playing, love your technique, thanks for taking the time to share this! Love the way you completely take both hands off your bass to let that open E just ring without being hindered by your hands on the bass:) I think that might be the first time I've seen a player consistently do that throughout a song. Big fan through the years between TYA, Badfinger, and Dave Mason! Really enjoyed watching this Leo!
So cool. I will listen to any histrorical tidbits you might post about your time with TYA. Thanks for your part in the creation of this album, of which was a big part of my life as teen in the '70s
Leo you have inspired me to start playing a bass myself! I heard this song, fell in love with that bass line, and went and got a sterling stingray. Thank you so much man!
Alvin Lee is my favourite guitarrist of all. Works such as religion, standing at the station, one of these days and the entire album space in time are among the best rock songs ever written. Having that said, i want to add that Joe Goosh does a fantastic job as well. Its no easy task to fill Alvin Lee´s shoes and keep up to the task as Joe has done, and, on top of that he contributed with freshness to the sound of the band. Thanks for all these decades bringing real rock´n´roll music to the world. God bless you! Best wishes from Brazil!
Leo, as usual I'm late to the party. This is a great big "thank you" to you and the rest of the band.. about ironically 10-12 years ago y'all played in Spokane, Wa at an annual Pig Out in the Park event. I am was invited into the warm-up tent for a beer and cold cuts. It helped having most every TYA albums and the whole crew signed em. So cool. I still have them. Again, so many thanks.. K
@@LeoLyonsMusician Wow! Thanks for the reply. Most people of your stature don't ever reply to us. In my list of musicians I have actually put you and John Paul Jones along with Timothy B in the running for the top three spots leaving two open spots for the undecided. As an avid fan of TYA I was deeply saddened by the passing of Alvin. My deepest condolences to you and yours for sure though it be a little late. On another note I was wondering if you ever had a chance to play with John Bonham or Keith Moon the greatest drummers of all time, Tied for the number one spot for drummers. Thanks again and I'll be watching more of your vids now that I found you here. Have a great new year!
Good stuff Leo! Good to see you still have it. I was a big fan of TYA in the 1970's here in Australia. Also liked that that "Pure Blues" album Alvin released.
The song has a great mood/feel. Every part works. Singing is great, even the phasing of the vocal on the chorus is spot on. Alvin's guitar work is gorgeous and the tone matches the song. When you only have one guitarist, the bass player had better be good, and Leo is superb here too. It's a timeless track as so many have commented. I wonder what Leo thinks of Jetta's version?
I had almost as much fun listening/watching to this as you had playing it! My 71st favorite song of all time, and my 3rd favorite TYA song (after' I can't keep from crying sometimes' and 'Help me').
Very cool to be able to see and hear the bass! I always wondered why this was never in the live sets. I figured it was because there was an acoustic playing all the rhythm stuff plus all the fills on the electric and Alvin was the only guitar player. Such a great song, and from a great album as well. 'A Space In Time' and 'Rock And Roll Music To The World' have always been my two favorites from Ten Years After, along with the Recorded Live album. Many great memories of listening to TYA over the years.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. My new band Hundred Seventy Split play the song live. Guitarist Joe Gooch changes from acoustic to electric for the electric solo and the back part of the song. Regards Leo

Heard it for the first time last night in S8E18 of NBC's The Blacklist, *REALLY* loved the bassline, wanted to check a bass cover, and found your video completely missing the point that you actually *were* Ten Years After's bassist! I'm blown away. Thank you, Leo!
Hi Nano. Thanks for the kind words and watching the video.
I'm buying a Bass and teaching myself how to play because of this video. This was amazing!
Wow. I'm pleased to hear that. Thanks for watching the video. Regards Leo
without a doubt one of the best bass players in rock history!
Thank you once again.
I've just discovered your channel, thank you very much for sharing your stories and this wonderful bass video of one of my all-time favorite songs! I love the happiness on your face all through the song. Greetings from Mexico!
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
Regards
Leo
Really enjoyed this. Longtime TYA fan, ever since a friend loaned me Stonedhenge back in the 60s.
Thanks for watching. much appreciated. Regards Leo
Leo we were playing this song on guitar this morning and reminiscing about you and TYA. Thanks for this great video.
Hi Bill. Thanks for watching. Enjoy your music. Regards Leo
Thanks. Much appreciated
Always ready for some more stories about TYA. Thanx
I'll keep em coming John.
Thank you so much im leaning this for a band, your a gentleman and a legend for this no better than the horses mouth, cant wait to see more
Hi Aaron. Thanks for the kind words and for watching my channel. Much appreciated. Good luck with your music.
Regards Leo
Standing at the Station
50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain
Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
I really started listening to TYA in 1971 at age 13.
My brother is 12 years younger than me.
When I was 18, and he was 6, my mother told him the lyrics to Good Morning Little Schoolgirl were
“I wanna play ball with you”
Hi Mike. Your mother sounds cool.Schoolgirl lyrics don't work these days.
Well done!.
Hi Mark. Thanks for the kind words. much appreciated.
Thanks for the great music. Spent many hours enjoying your skills.
Hi Dakota. Thanks for the kind words. Regards Leo
Wow Leo that was way cool bass playing. Thank you! Amazing song!!!
Hi Robert. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Regards Leo
Hi Leo,
I'm learning to play bass and came looking for clarity on some of Change the World , and found the best version available, which of course was yours! Very happy to discover you playing this. Thank you for sharing and helping me advance. Its so fun to watch you enjoying playing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Melanie. Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with your bass playing. Have fun. Regards Leo
This song is one of those that once you hear it, it sticks in the back of head for the rest of your life. Fantastic!
Thanks for listening Robert.
Great playing, love your technique, thanks for taking the time to share this! Love the way you completely take both hands off your bass to let that open E just ring without being hindered by your hands on the bass:)
I think that might be the first time I've seen a player consistently do that throughout a song. Big fan through the years between TYA, Badfinger, and Dave Mason! Really enjoyed watching this Leo!
Thanks for the kind words ands for watching the video. Much appreciated. Regards Leo
So cool. I will listen to any histrorical tidbits you might post about your time with TYA. Thanks for your part in the creation of this album, of which was a big part of my life as teen in the '70s
Thanks for visiting my channel and for the kind words. Regards Leo
Leo you have inspired me to start playing a bass myself! I heard this song, fell in love with that bass line, and went and got a sterling stingray. Thank you so much man!
WOW. Thank you. Good luck with your music. It really is fun.
Hi Bob. Thanks for your post and for the kind words.
Hi Kevin. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Have a great weekend. Regards Leo
thank you so much Leo, making the world a better place through music, you are doing it!
Hi Rik. Thanks for listening
Simply one of the top five bass players of all time. Thanks for the vid
Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
@@OddBall1958 Thank you, my pleasure. I knew both John and keith. We did several shows together but I never jammed with them.
Regards Leo
You and Ric Lee are the worlds greatest hard rock rhythm section!
Thank you.
One of the best bass player ever!!!
Thanks Marcel. I'll keep trying.
Totally agree!
@@walterspisak4521 Thanks for the kins words Walter.
Good stuff Leo! Good to see you still have it. I was a big fan of TYA in the 1970's here in Australia. Also liked that that "Pure Blues" album Alvin released.
Thanks for watching Dave. Regards Leo
Hi Leo. Thanks for sharing with us. I saw you and the band in Vancouver with Wild Turkey. I've been a fan ever since.
Thanks for coming to see us Dan and thanks for watching the video.
Thanks for the incredible music, greetings from Peru
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Hi to Peru. I'd love to play there. Regards Leo
Just wonderful! It is our honor to see you and to hear you. Thank you very much that with your music and art you convey to us the feeling of 60, 70.
Hi Stefanos. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated
Thanks Leo another Cool Video . Totally enjoy your Bass playing Style.
Hi Ralph. Thanks for the kind words and for visiting my channel.
Regards
Leo
The song has a great mood/feel. Every part works. Singing is great, even the phasing of the vocal on the chorus is spot on. Alvin's guitar work is gorgeous and the tone matches the song. When you only have one guitarist, the bass player had better be good, and Leo is superb here too. It's a timeless track as so many have commented. I wonder what Leo thinks of Jetta's version?
Thanks for the kind words.Re Jetta's version of the song. I'm not really into electronic music but I can see it used in a movie.Regards Leo
I had almost as much fun listening/watching to this as you had playing it!
My 71st favorite song of all time, and my 3rd favorite TYA song (after' I can't keep from crying sometimes' and 'Help me').
Hi William. Thanks the kind words and for watching the video.
I am so thrilled to have found you and your channel, you sound as good as ever and looking great, keep on truckin' LL.
Thanks for the kind words.
😃Great bass playing Leo✨I enjoy watching this multiple times✨
Thanks for the kind words Pat. Regards Leo
Man... all I have to say, is that you rock! I believe in you and I believe that you're one of the greatest bassists ever! Peace to you♡
Hi Mani. Thanks for the kind words. Peace to you too,
Very cool to be able to see and hear the bass!
Regards Leo
@@LeoLyonsMusician I checked out a video of your band doing 'Love Like A Man', sounded great. It looks like you're playing over in Europe right now, any plans on coming over to the states? I'm just outside of Detroit, saw TYA play at Cobo Hall in Detroit in 74 and 75. I think the 74 show was my second concert ever, I was 13 at the time.
@@NoviJimB We'd love to play some shows in the States. It's a logistic problem right now which I hope we can sort out in 2023.
That was simply incredible. I'm thinking I should use my basses for firewood after seeing this. Please yes. Do more videos!!
Thanks for the kind words but please don't burn your basses. Every other day I get frustrated at not being able to play something I hear others play. The fun is working at your own pace and improving gradually to your goal. It's all fun. Regards Leo
This was absolutely wonderful. Thank you
I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Hello, Leo. Lovely playing, I have always loved. I remember hearing "Spoonful," "Stoned Woman," and "Good Morning Little School Girl" by you guys on the radio when I was 8-12 in the late 90s, early 00's! I loved those songs the best! :D Then I was shocked when I saw you and Alvin at Woodstock because you know...I was there!

My pleasure. Great to hear it's helping. Regards Leo
Thank you Leo for all those beautyful music and all these years rock and roll glory !!!! Grettings from Buenos Aires, Argentina!!!
Thanks for supporting the music Rene. Much appreciated.
Thanks, Leo. This has always been one of my favorite tunes. It was great to hear you recreate the magic. And stories; Yes!
Hi Scott.Glad you enjoyed it!
Leo: Interesting. I noticed on this that as the bass part becomes more complex, the smile on your face gets bigger! You are clearly in your element. In any event, I've been watching your clips and really enjoying them. Keep it up! TLH
Thanks for watching. Yes. I really enjoy what I do. Regards Leo
Rewind to 4:20
and trip on...
Thank you so much Leo for being a part of our musical enlightenment. TYA used to be played to death in our med school hostel dorm (in the 90s) - full volume, upto atleast 4 AM. I wonder now how we got away with it!
☮️❤️ Cheers,
from the very southern tip of India
Hi Abraham. Thanks for the kind words. It sounds like a wild time was had by all at Med school. Early in my life I thought I'd like to train to be a doctor then I picked up a guitar and my life path changed.
7:30 a.m. here on the west coast of the states. This is the way to start the day! Thank you, Leo! A Space in Time is my favorite!
Good morning Jeff. Thanks for the kind words.
If anyone ever had more fun playing bass than you did, Mr. Lyons, I've never seen them. Glad you're still doing well.
Thank you. I'm well thanks. Yes. It's true I do enjoy playing bass. I'm so glad that we'll soon be back out on tour again.
@@LeoLyonsMusician I'm hoping you are touring the USA. I'll check the schedule. Hoping you get near Denver Colorado as I live within 4 hours. Would certainly make that trip. Glad to hear.
@@OmniGuy It would be great to tour the States but you should know that I don't play with the band called Ten Years After anymore. That's just the drummer Ric lee and keyboard player Chick Churchill. I have my own band Hundred Seventy Split. Maybe we'll make it over one day.
@@LeoLyonsMusician Yes. I know that. You even explained to me once, where the name came from. I'll keep looking at your schedules.
Hope you can make it someday.
@@OmniGuy Fingers crossed.
