My husband and I are Baby Boomers. We grew up in times of wars, revolutions, assinations and the music of the times was there to help us deal with the pain and help us reflect on how we could bring peace and love in the middle of it all.
Boundaries were changed and the music helped to make that happen and move forward with change.
Definitely an unforgettable part of our lives..we lived through it all.
People like you 2 learning, through music, about what we went through will keep us alive after we're gone.

Extra points, Jay, for correct use of the word groovy! :) This song is amazing when you stop to really listen. Alvin Lee said in an interview that the chorus was a serious statement. He didn't want to take a political position and in his words "almost didn't put the song forward" as a result. He knew he wasn't smart enough to solve all the worlds problems so it's up to us all to do it. This song has it all, great guitar work, great musicality, an important social statement, and it's got a great groove!

I saw them twice, once in their heyday around 74 or so in a big arena, then saw them in a large bar when they did a reunion tour in the early 90s, I was close for that one. Also saw Alvin Lee twice on solo tours in the 80s, he was scorching hot all 4 times I was blessed to see him. Great times!

Alvin was a monster guitar player and the whole band was excellent. 1971 - I was a junior in high school and like almost everyone my age, were giant fans of Alvin. He was dubbed "the fastest guitar in the West", and there was no questioning that! Sadly, he died 10 years ago, and us old fan really miss getting new stuff from him.

You're so right Amber! You two are both so genuine and so lovable. Here I am a 63 year old man (today is my birthday actually), and when I don't check in with RSR I feel like something is missing in my day. Music has always been a big part of my life, and I know 98% of the music that you react to, but it takes me back emotionally to the first time I heard these songs for myself! I laugh when you laugh, I cry along with you when you cry... you create this wonderful connection for all your subscribers that's addictive. I feel like your my dearest friends! It's maybe a little crazy, but I know this is true for apparently 400,000 people now! Relationships (for sure) are not always easy, but I sure hope that the two of you are honestly as in love with each other as you seem to be. You deserve this success. Just look at the hatred we have in this world. You probably don't even realize the magnitude of true goodness you spread to the (apparently) whole world. You're not going to run out of great music, or the stories behind the artists. I feel that I'm a better (a little bit anyway, Lol) and happier person to have you as a part of my life. You guys are great! I love you. Don't stop.

The lyrical brilliance of this tune lies in this:
Yes, it faces all the cultural and societal struggles of the late-60s & early 70s, but the narrator will do nothing to better the world.
Dude's helpless and hopeless, don't know what to do - so he leaves it up to you.
A lot of us feel resigned in our comfortable lives.
I feel that I'D LOVE TO CHANGE THE WORLD is written from a selfish POV, from a character unwilling to do the hard thing to make the planet better.
The real message of hope is the subtext. When we relate to our narrator, we expose our own pessimism.
It's a song that challenges us to confront our worst selves. And that is Dylan-level songwriting.
Then Alvin Lee gives this poetry that incredible vocal, and on top of all that, Alvin is one helluva guitar player!
And Ten Years After is incredible!

Amber, you are so sweet and smart!😊 I'm so happy that you're really getting to understand what really was happening during the 60's and 70's. It IS important for your generation to know this history. Especially with the way things are right now. Your generation needs to take the torch now, and carry the message of peace and love into the future!!☮❤💛💚 Love ya, girl!!😘

Jay & Amber really hit it on the head. Thank you for acknowledging that the 60/70's generation changed the world. What Alvin Lee is singing about came to pass, nobody was saying this out loud until then. It sounds so simple and true and easy to understand to you, but at the time just singing this was revolutionary.

This is my first time watching your channel. I'm pleased that younger people are taking the time to learn about these late-60s & early-70s power bands.
I was a huge Ten Years After fan when this album came out. I think the lyrics are born out of frustration, similar to what I was feeling. Twenty-something rockers were traveling the world, seeing all these problems. But everyone's "solutions" involved someone else's sacrifice. At the time, the UK was taxing high income earners over 80% and the musicians who were just getting their start were shocked to learn this (hence the lyrics "tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more"). The population was exploding and people wanted to have more and more children. There was a Vietnam War, a slaughterhouse for young American men. It seemed the World was going crazy, everyone knew it but no one wanted to take the steps necessary to change it.

So I didn't catch your reactions last night, but watching them today, you somehow picked two of my favorite songs, according to a list I made during my senior year of high school in 1974. I'd Love to Change the World was my favorite song, and it pretty much still is, and Go All the Way was somewhere in the top 10 (that might have been teenage hormones), but I do still love that song, even though I am 67 now. You succeeded in getting at least one smile today. On the list I noticed another song from 1970 that you have not gotten to yet. Please do "Vehicle" by the Ides of March. Today was also my 43rd Wedding Anniversary, another reason to smile.

The first song, One Of These Days is a a hard rocking blues tune and Baby Won't You Let Me Rock'N' Roll You is a short hard driving rocker. Another great one from this period of the band is the title track from their Rock & Roll Music To The World.

Such a good tune! This is the song why I know this band. I heard it in a movie or two as a teenager, but didn't know who it was. We did have internet back then, but it wasn't like today. If I heard a song somewhere that I really liked, but didn't know anything about, it's not an exaggeration that I sometimes had to go years before I figured it out.

    Hey hey!!! 400k 🎉🎊🎈♥️
I can remember back when there were less than 90k of us family members. How time has flown by! Amazed and thrilled for the 400k subscribers.
10 Years After is one of those often missed early rock bands. And I can never figure why that is. There songs are unforgettable, their lyrics and amazing, and the use of instruments is mind blowing.
Glad you guys enjoyed this favored song of my early teens. 👍

Amber, I think you hit the nail squarely on the head. Y’all are carrying on the age old tradition of soaking in the music and folklore of your predecessors and gleaning from it the things necessary to effect a change and make the world smile.
    Love y’all

I'm bringing this up because of the title of the song. There is a group out there called Playing For Change, they are musicians from across the globe, some famous some not. They were created to inspire and connect the world through music. The idea for this project came from the common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. One of my favorites by them is their rendition of "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi Hendricks who once said " If there is something to be changed in this world then it could only happen with MUSIC." If you haven't heard it or them, I would say it's a must.

TYA were one of my favourite bands of the late 60s and early 70s. I saw them live at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1974 - fantastic evening!
I loved how they moved from a very jazz influenced sound through to a more rock based one, but never lost the rock n roll and jazz basis of what they performed.
Lots of albums to choose songs from, but can I suggest “Stonedhenge” as a great one to pick some tracks from - “Hear me calling” and “Speed Kills”. “Love like a man” is another (later!) song with the transitions that you like, with a hard rock feel, but a slower tempo. Great rabbit hole for you with this band.
Also look at Alvin Lee’s work with country artist Mylon Le Fevre, after Ten Years After broke up.

Oh here comes that guitar, you guys. Their drummer was fantastic too. A vibe indeed. "Choo Choo Mama" is cool. There's a live version from 1975 performed at Winterland. Thanks. Feel better, Jay!

Your appreciation for music of this era and for those of us who were alive during it is really touching. For some reason, I started listening to music reactors during the pandemic and I didn't really know why I was drawn to it, but I realized after a while that I was witnessing young people learning history through music, not just about the music itself but about the times the music was made in. It has given me some hope, for instance, that a number of reactors have spontaneously, without being told, arrived at the conclusion that the seventies were a more peaceful, gentler time. (And I know that not everything about the seventies was peaceful. Latin America was plagued by fascist torture-dictatorships, for one thing.) One reactor could even tell that through the sound of a Led Zeppelin song. Then, that realization prompts people to go and learn more about that era, but to see people, young people, sensing the spirit of the times and of society through music, without being instructed about it, has just been really amazing.
